It's both surprising and unsurprising to see a Scotsman play and SING the Blues so well. After all, the Southern American accent plays a small part, which came from the British/Scottish accent. And Britain had a huge love for the Blues in the 50's and 60's, which is how Rock and Metal came into existence. Pink Floyd was originally a blues band if I remember right. Shame Britain has lost that.
You need to listen Frankie Millers Full house or the band Nazareth, or maybe the truly great funk of the average White Band amongst others to know that Scotland has had a lot of bad ass blues funk and slide players and singers over the years.

This video basically made me pick my first reso guitar (an used Epi biscuit was all I could get locally, but I'm very happy with it), and start practicing acoustic blues. I've playing electric blues since I was a kid, I'm 33 now, I'm a fan of Robert Johnson since I was 17, but never really got into playing that style, I thought it was impossible for me! Not only that, but I also started singing and playing too, another thing I thought I could never do decently, but I'm getting better every day. Cheers from Argentina!!

One of great things about Elmore that gets over looked is that great rock n roll voice. This cover works so well because it shares that element (along with some fantastic low-down greasy slide playing)

Thanks ! It does sound busier/fancier than it really is. Each note in a chord is emphasised a bit more individually by playing one slightly after the other, than strummed together. This fills out the sound more - but I'm just staggering the individual chord notes out. Plenty of hammer-ons, pull-offs AND letting open strings ring out between notes and/or during chord changes - so that something is always happening. When you break it down, it's not as complicated as it seems, ONCE you understand what I'm doing BUT trying to explain it makes it sound even more complicated than it is !! Keep playing - because it all adds up to a be a better player.

Have you tried parlor guitars and parlor resonators? They sound super nice with slide or just picking. Solid, responsive but mellow tone.

I don’t pretend to be the best BUT I do believe I’ve got some parts of that song closer than many - especially the shuffle, which sounds way cooler, in my opinion, and is actually easier to play.
