    Yes, the guitar recently had a neck reset and new fretboard. I've replaced the tuners too for the new Stew-Mac Golden Restoration Fleur-de-Lis tuner reproductions.

      Update - i took off those Stewmac Fleur-de-Lis tuners - I didn't like them. They did not work well, compared to the plain-plate Stewmac tuners

    • @snakehips81
      @snakehips81  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks !
      I’m playing in Open D (classic Elmore James slide guitar tuning).
      Slide/bottleneck is from the English company Diamond Bottlenecks.
      They easily make the best glass bottlenecks in the WORLD !!!
      I can HIGHLY recommend their hand-blown lead-crystal “Ultimate” slides, that come in a range of colours & mixes of VERY cool colours. The very high quality, polished playing-surface, feels like liquid glass. They are the very best slides you will ever own.
      Check out my more recent videos, where I use some of my most recent Diamond Bottleneck “Ultimate” slides.

    Snakehips, who works on your Nationals? You are an Inspiration, love all your videos. World Class singing and playing!

    • @snakehips81
      @snakehips81  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used two different luthiers in the UK (England, actually, as I don't know anyone good enough closer to me, in Scotland), over the last 16 or 17 years of owning vintage Nationals - Dave King, and then (since he has moved back to England) Steve Evans (of Beltona Resonator guitars & other instruments). Both are very good but I prefer Steve Evans now

    • @stratocaster1greg
      @stratocaster1greg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      snakehips81 Thank You Sir.

    • @snakehips81
      @snakehips81  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To further clarify what I said already, I have had about 9 vintage Nationals restored by Dave King over the years, plus recommended quite a few friends of mine - and seen the resultant restorations - and we all received excellent guitars back from him. To be fair, any vintage National can have built up various issues over the years and the results can be a bit variable, even with the same luthier - which is largely down to how good the guitar was from new, what it's been through in the circa 80yrs since, and what is feasible and/or desired to do to the guitar to get it working again. Of the 6 vintage Nationals I still own restored by Dave King, they are all excellent - and some were restored as much as 15yrs ago by him !
      Steve Evans makes resonator instruments on a daily basis as the main thing he does and thus probably has much more experience making restoring resonator guitars, than even the wealth of experience that Dave King has. You can't go wrong with either really. THEY are the two I would recommend, in the UK. To be fair, I haven't tried anyone else but I have seen a few Nationals restored by other UK luthiers, and been less impressed despite having seen their amazing work on non-resonator instruments. I hope that makes sense ? !!!
      I have also owned a few Nationals restored by well known luthiers in the US - and NOT been as impressed by their work, compared to my fairly decent numbers of examples restored by UK luthiers - so I think my experience of restoring vintage Nationals and comparing different luthiers is fairly decent.

      snakehips81 Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your previous answer. Still trying to figure out who would be best to refret my 36 Duolian. I am in the States and hate to ship overseas. My first National so have much to learn. Your videos are a great learning tool. Thanks so much for sharing with us all. Your one cool cat.

    • @snakehips81
      @snakehips81  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, there should be plenty luthier/repair guys who can do a good refret job.
      However, are you sure that is all it needs ? I think you will be best sending it to someone who regularly works on Nationals. Depending where you are in the US, you could try Marc Schoenberger (search for : nationalguitarrepair),
      or you can't go wrong with National Resophonic (nationalguitar.com)

      +Dick Love - Hi there ! Do you mean Diamond Bottlenecks ? Yes, they are the best, and I have a few myself - although I dropped and bust my favourite one a few years back.
      I do gig - AND in fact, the TWO bands I am in are playing TOMORROW night in Cupar, as part of the Fife Jazz Festival. I play in a duo called Mud In Your Ear (I play guitars and piano in this set-up, with a guitarists, who is on TH-cam - search for Prof Scratchy). I also play piano and Hammond organ in a 5-piece blues band called the Jensen Intercepters. Both bands are playing tomorrow night :
      www.fifejazzfestival.com/programme/artists/cupar-blues.html
      The gig is at Watts Bar, starting at 8pm sharp. If you can't make that, I will hopefully be playing at this year's Dundee "Almost Blue" festival (June 1-3), and the Edin J&B fest.
      Come and say hello !
