Lets' give a little love and respect to the friggin conductor, Sarah Hicks! Sarah is an American guest conductor here, spent 15 to 20 hours dissecting the score, rehearsed the symphony orchestra to reflect her vision of the piece and flawlessly led them to this conclusion. Sarah is a graduate Magna Cum Laud of Harvard University and principal conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. She is sought after the world over as a guest conductor. The girl knows her shit! So young to hold this position of respect!

The lady who sang "wah wah", her name is tuva semmingson, a classically trained singer in her own right, she sings everything from opera to standards to pop. A diva of the 1st class. If you look closely, for this concert she was wearing little six shooter earrings. PERFECT!!! Yes, there is also a hanging dummy ... if you watch the movie, you'll get the connection.
I watched an interview with the two vocalists.Tuva Semmingsen AKA the Wa Wa Lady, as she has been called by the tube, actually likes being called the Wa Wa Lady. She couldn't believe how this performance took off on the tube. Christine Nonbo Andersen is the solo vocalist in the audience. This was her first performance with the Danish National Orchestra. Both ladies nailed their performances and added a stunning element to this Ennio Morricone masterpiece.
Ennio Morricone was a composer of film soundtracks, where he used instruments and objects that are not normally used in an orchestral ensemble. Electric guitars, basses, ocarinas, bongos ... but also whips, gunshots, gusts of wind. Entering Morricone's work is a complete immersion.
A moving tribute for fidelity down to the smallest details is what the Spaghetti Werstern Orchestra did to him.
This is the theme song of the movie with the same title and of course, made Clint Eastwood ... Clint Eastwood.

4:40 -- This 2nd selection is called "Ecstasy of Gold" and appears later in the movie when Tuco (Eli Wallach) is racing through a cemetery frantically searching for a particular grave marker. I think the passage at 7:32 is exquisite. The sharp ending is the moment when Tuco spots the grave marker. This performance is very close to the one in the movie except even more robust.

I bought the CD of this entire performance and watched it last night.
All the pieces played here are DNSO arraignments so they differ somewhat from the original Morricone arraignments. The first part was their version of the main GBU theme. The second part with the piano and oboe is called The Ecstacy of Gold, again by Morricone and from the film score for GBU. DNSO, WOW! Unmatched talent and wonderful performance. Yeah, ide have to say they take this stuff seriously. That's an understatement. So much so that the guy hanging was likely a former musician that was 2 hundredths of a second behind the rest of the orchestra, or missed a note during a rehearsal or something. Morriconne himself is undoubtedly standing and enthusiastically applauding.

Well, you got me! I'm a sucker for any DNSO reaction video. So glad you liked it. I've seen some reactors when the hanging man kind of threw them for a loop. Glad you caught the reference. Hope to see more reactions from you.

tuva has some astonishing vocal skills but I love the sopranist in this one. gosh when she sang the pre-chorus or bridge whatever u wanna call it with the back and forth between high and low notes that was insane.

Tears ??? Me too Pal. I'm old enough to remember the film as a kid [baby boomer] and you could call this piece a tribute to our young now long gone. I will post this on May 31st on Clint's 91 birthday ~ Blessings and BTW, your backround in music with your commentary is by far the best I've seen. Hats off to Sarah Hicks as well~

I've watched many reactors doing this song and have been shocked that most of them don't know where it came from. Since you enjoy his movie scores, you should check out the video of his song "Your Love" from Once Upon a Time In the West. The first half is hummed by Edda Dell'Orso as recorded in 1968 and the second half is the vocal version by then 14-year-old Jackie Evancho recorded in 2014.

You are the first person I have come across reacting to this music who KNEW the movie, none of these other reactors while amazed by the music understood where it came from and the poor hanged guy gave a few of them quite a start! The commenters just said that when the orchestra changed conductors they hanged the previous one.

I recently watched the entire movie with this concert in mind and In my opinion which is based on my experience as a musician and a killer Home Surround System I fully believe that this concert is a note for note, instrument for instrument recreation of the actual movie score. Even the male vocals! It is just amazing!

Like Matt said, the Danish, and Scandinavians in general, have some really great classical talent. The "wah wah" women in this is actually Norwegian. Her name is Tuva Semmingsen. The incredible soprano soloist is Christine Nonbo Andersen. I believe the instrument that caused Matt some confusion are the chimes. I've listened to the original music score, conducted by Bruno Nicolai, and this pretty accurately honors and duplicates the original score, it's only done better and with improved sound quality.

I think, in the second part, that it's the original score. There are several versions of the GBU "out" and a common, televised version is shorter than the original version (also misses several scenes that got cut). The part to which Ecstasy of Gold was writting, is also shorter in the televised version by several seconds.

A young Lady by the name of Carolina Eyke has done an absolute amazing job doing a short of the second half of this song The Ecstasy Of Gold with her very unique and powerful instrument, the Theremin. Honestly despite there being so many 'Masters' of that instrument in the past, she is the only one i have seen to actually really Master it with the very particular method that she came up with on her own. She has managed to pull out the full capacity and capability of that instrument. Honestly watching her play is a must. She has also done an amazing recording of Kate Bush's song Babushka.

I know you're not crying. None of us are. We men meticulously assess the instrumental - hereunder vocal - proficiency in a strictly professional manner, and would never let a tear out due to overwhelment. Such are our nature and set ways.
    I'm kidding!! :-)
I'm not in fact doubting you nor trying to call you out or anything. So I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way.

This tune is not (!) by the "The Danish National Symphony Orchestra - they "just" play it. This tune is by the Italian composer Ennio Morricone! Morricone is more important than the Orchestra. He must be mentioned in the video title!
btw: Morricone also composed the music to the iconic movie "Once upon a time in the west" - and many many others.
