Now I know how to position myself better and realize how good his healing is, I don’t pay much attention to stats/kills anymore and been consistent with the most heal/assists, and especially only 0-1 (the most 2) death per match
Been playing rivals since release, tried rocket early and hated him, now into season one he has quickly become my new favourite character over the past 4-5 days and this is one of the best quality guides I’ve seen on him yet! Thank you!
Yo girl! Your channel got a gold with this video. I almost never post but this is an exception. Practically, you explained both overall gameplay and rocket gameplay in one video. Pray for your success. Greeting.
Edit: I got to GM with Rocket! Thanks again for this vid great video, trying to get good with Rocket and this is exactly the video I was looking for, thank you!
I really like the presentation, the game footage, the reasoning, the timestamps. Very well organized video. As a Rocket enthusiast myself, the one point I would disagree with is spacing to healbot vs taking kills yourself. If the team is in good shape, there are certain targets you can absolutely shred with rocket, this includes flying enemies if you can use your mobility to get above them. Typically, I only engage in these fights if my DPS are bad or lack awareness (flanking ironman setting up ult for example). Hulk/venom are also food for Rocket's gun at mid-range. As strategists, the calculation to consider when healing vs damaging is: "Will shooting this enemy result in more net health for my team than healing someone" If the answer is yes, then damaging that target = healing.
Thank you! That is a very valid point. It all comes down to the state of the fight: who has more pressure in terms of health levels. Since overhealing won't contribute much when allies are healthy, shooting will apply more pressure. I had trouble identifying when it was safe for me to shoot targets when I was playing so I defaulted to easy mode healbotting from the back. There were too many times where I started shooting and then failed to realize my team was slowly dying in my peripheral and then we get wiped. In the new season I've started shooting a lot more Storms than expected though. Weaving shoots/heals from an aerial position with his wall running might be the way to dominate as Rocket.
My best advice during the Escort missions. If u wallrun ,jump ,heal yourself, repeat around the cart. You can stall a lot of time for your teammates. I won games for us so many times. It’s a lot of fun 🤣 can send clip
I think another prio for Rocket is any character that has verticality, Iron Man, Storm, Spidey, Venom, Starlord, Punisher if he's setting up etc... I always make sure to keep an eye on anyone who uses height to take that burden off the other support and allow them to focus only on healing those they can easily reach
Im a GM I Rocket OTP and ya you basically covered everything. If you're planning on making more videos, I would suggest one about BRB strategy: Good spots on each map, placing it high or low depending on enemy team comp, etc.
This is great. Below Diamond, I'd suggest a couple tweaks. Priority #2 may be healing co-support. I'd also say doing dmg to build ult is valuable. It's important to be careful not to trigger a reload because you were dealing dmg and now you need to heal. If I am low on healing balls I'll look to see if I can safely empty some of the clip.
I just started playing Rocket and competative mode. Ill say living is by far the easiest with Rocket. I get on any other healer and am constantly looking for wall run spots and jet packing away from danger. (Positioning issue for me to learn and get better at) Rocket is so fun to play. There is no better accolade after a game as "Rocket just doesnt die! I stopped trying to kill you after the 5th time you got away!"
I'm currently Gold II - I love playing Rocket but I'm unsure about pushing further as a solo player...your video was encouraging though and maybe I'll try to keep going (honestly I only played ranked to get the skin). I got him up to "Lord"..I know that doesn't mean anything skill wise, just time spent. Anyway, I'm rambling, great video.
Another thing is opportunity cost of their divers targeting you. I find it hilarious how calm I am and how easy it is to live vs nearly every diver, so I like to play around with them when they dive me instead of outright running away. In their minds they probably think they almost have me or they're preventing me from healing, but neither is the case. Them spending so much time and resources on me basically takes them out of the fight for long periods. So try to master escape, but bait yourself at the same time by not being so elusive that they just ignore you.
Amazing video, when did you know when to take a break? Or did you power through your losses, struggling with this atm keep getting into bad losing streaks
hI Nage, thank you so much for this guide. I got to Diamond with this guide. If it's possible do you have any tips on choosing bans in Diamond+ for healbot Rocket as well as any tips for playing him in a triple support comp? I've been struggling in Diamond with Rocket since I cant seem to heal enough in Triple support to farm value from his ult and his rez. Once again thanks for your time into this guide
Sorry don't have any tips for bans. I usually ban Hulk + Wolverine. If you can, try to avoid running triple support on your team. 2-2-2 has a higher win rate according to RivalsMeta. If you can't control what your teammates are playing, you are unfortunately going to have to start doing damage as Rocket to compensate for your team's overall lower damage with 3 strategists. I believe the idea of triple support meta is due to strategists having access to the best ultimates in the game. The problem is, people don't realize that 3 support comps have low damage and so the supports have to do more to compensate for that. Also, there is only so much you can heal so all 3 supports are fighting for healing for ult charge. Try playing more forward (because you have 2 supports to heal you instead of only 1) and weaving damage and healing at the same time. Rocket has high dps at point blank so try shredding some tanks that are trying to make space (damage fall off starts at 10m). If you don't want to change your playstyle, I recommend saving your ult for after defensive enemy support ults or comboing with an ally offensive ult to burst through the enemy defensive ult healing (an easy example: Rocket's ult will enable Punisher's ult to burn through most defensive ults). It also helps if the rest of your team is also able to focus fire the same target (use your pings) since your ult amplifies everyone within range.
Any more constructive advice to counter Scarlet Witch? Her range and mobility make it difficult to keep my distance, especially if she's targeting Rocket. Thanks!
Scarlet's phased mobility is pretty slow so you just need to keep an eye on where she could be coming at you from. If she catches you off guard, you can juke her by dashing to high ground. She only has 2 charges on her phase so you can dash/dash boost/wall run onto elevation and she won't be able to chase you unless she expends her charges. Try to take cover and get your team to help you.
At 16:26, I did mean enemy strategists. I tried to keep the video short but the general idea to avoid dueling strategists is because if they are fighting you, they are not healing the team. If you keep healing your team and stay alive until the strategist chasing you gives up, the teams are essentially fighting a 5v6. Within those few seconds of enemy team with 1 healer, your team is very likely to get a kill or pressure them into poor positions. Alternatively, they could be distracting you while keeping heals on the team (Mantis heal over time, Cloak & Dagger bubble, etc.). In that case you definitely do not want to let your team fight without your heals. If you choose to duel them (1v1), you need to be super close which is not ideal due to how close Rocket's damage fall off is (I believe it's reduced to 40% damage at 20m+ and it starts falling off at 10m!). It also comes down to mechanical skill level of who aims better and who strafes better. Note that strategists have a hard time killing each other because they have small hitboxes and self preservation. An option you can try is weaving shots and healing the team while dueling them. I've been trying that out this season and it works OK with the 3 support meta. Maybe Rocket was meant to be played weaving both shooting and healing.
im unsure why you keep saying Rocket is a heal bot and not telling players to use their left click when he has the highest DPS in the game at the 10m range meaning he can melt tanks like Venom, Peni, Captain America, or even Thor if he has his team with him. Rocket's damage is meaningful to winning fights and games, you cannot healbot, you even mentioned at the start of the video contradicting yourself "Rocket is a struggle to climb in lower elos as a healbot because you're only as good as the team you're supporting" this applies to high elo as well, and you need to make good play making decisions of whether or not damaging or healing is better. Also preemptive healing is nice and all but you end up reloading in a lot of scenarios when you can't heal suddenly when you need the heal the most because your orbs fly past your team if theyre full hp. It's unreliable to do and you rely completely on your team to carry you when support is the best role in the game impact wise in all games including this one, you need to create impact.
In retrospect, yes, I should've generalized the exception of gunning down an ulting Peni to include all melee tanks since they get melted but in my games, what worked for me was being a primarily low-risk backline healer. In my experience, it's very rare that an enemy tank is out of position to the point where you can shred him for free because your team should already be doing that.
bc he cant counter ult other strategist characters. which if they have two or three strategist who can pop a ult that heals their whole team you lose by them healing more
I believe it's because his ultimate's impact is hard to see. If his team's damage is boosted and someone other than Rocket kills you, it's very unlikely for you to notice that what made you die so fast was his amplifier. In an extreme example, if a Punisher with the damage amp. deleted you, you would attribute the kill to the Punisher's good aim and tracking. The Rocket's damage boost that enabled Punisher to kill you that fast would come second. In contrast, defensive support ults like Luna Snow's are very obvious "my team can't die" buttons. They are also very easy to use because you can usually save it to counter an enemy offensive ult. People would rather have the ultimate that is easy to use and has obvious impact but that doesn't mean Rocket's ultimate is bad. It all comes down to the strategist's decision making.
Sorry to hear that you've had a poor solo queue experience. Everybody gets their share of bad and toxic teammates but communication can be the key to a good team. I've had unpleasant experiences as well in my climb but I've also encountered some great in game leaders whose communications have contributed greatly to our victory.
“Track and communicate enemy ults to your team?“ How do you do that when you say you’re not in coms? Typing on a keyboard while keeping people alive? Hardly. Why do you all lie about solo cuing with no coms?
Sorry if my video misrepresented what I meant to say. I'm not the best player but this is how I got to GM solo queue with no mic. I wanted to share how important ult economy is because at least if you don't communicate to your team the information, you can keep yourself out of danger.
Amazing video :3 Also an extra tip, you can turn off Auto Reload in his settings so that if you run out of bullets/orbs u can still shoot the other one :3

@@Nage. Thank you for the detailed response! I reached GM for the first time as a Rocket main, with help from this video.
I thought rocket sucked. Dropped 40k health and honestly… i understand it now
im unsure why you keep saying Rocket is a heal bot and not telling players to use their left click when he has the highest DPS in the game at the 10m range meaning he can melt tanks like Venom, Peni, Captain America, or even Thor if he has his team with him.
Bump
why do people hate on him so much? jeff i understand but why him
bc he cant counter ult other strategist characters. which if they have two or three strategist who can pop a ult that heals their whole team you lose by them healing more
@@Ukiyo_wonders damage amplifier must be worth something
They are just going on vibes not reality. Rocket has the highest win percentage of all of the healers. They'll figure it out eventually
The number of times my Punishers and Winters have been the MVP…after I dropped my Z and Ult for them all match
I can’t play as rocket because he is not good at killing and is slow
Love your voice
I only made it five minutes in and just cannot stand the voice, appreciate the content up until then though
Turning on comms will not improve a solo queuing experience. Ever.
Sorry to hear that you've had a poor solo queue experience. Everybody gets their share of bad and toxic teammates but communication can be the key to a good team. I've had unpleasant experiences as well in my climb but I've also encountered some great in game leaders whose communications have contributed greatly to our victory.
My average damage per match with Rocket is 0.

Wow. I came for an overview of Rocket and left with a better understanding of the whole game.
Amazing video :3
Also an extra tip, you can turn off Auto Reload in his settings so that if you run out of bullets/orbs u can still shoot the other one :3
Great video
