Thank you! Came across your video as I was seeking Lewis and Clark Info. I'm related to George Drouillard, heck with as "active" as they all were, maybe lots of us are related to him. Thanks for making history interesting and fun!
@@WildWestExtravaganza Me too. Rare to sit through a video that long, but it seems like right when it starts to dredge you take it to humor. You are really good at that. Thanks man 🤙
I'm doing some Lewis & Clark research myself. A couple of things I find interesting is, they were Federal Agents appointed by Thomas Jefferson, when they assembled at The Falls of Ohio (later renamed Louisville), Lewis brought 300 men, and Shanghai'd another 100 men from the area, when they left Louisville and before they landed in St. Louis, they engaged in a battle with some Natives, as in they sailed to there village and began a battle with them, why? I cannot find that answer, but I figure it was a weak tribe and he wanted his men to have some combat experience, although most of his men had fought years before in the Revolution.
Those guys worked so hard dragged that keel boat up the river. I remember the accounts of them stopped for rest and falling asleep standing up. Working hard and burning calories. Each man was eating 7 to 9 pounds of red meat a day. After they crossed the rockies heading to the Pacific they were starving. Went from eating 7 pounds of red meat a day east of the rockies to eating fish and nuts and berries west of the rockies and their bodies were starving because they were raised on cow's lol.
My first quote from "Courge Undaunted" was regarding separate run-ins with a grizzle bear. The first grizzle bear they encountered was taken down in one shot. The second grizzly bear was shot several times, continued to chase them off a cliff into water and continued to pursue them.
Elk are predominantly browsers they start browsing on buds in early spring, they follow the fresh buds, so in the summertime they’re up high. In the winter time they come down and graze. Generally speaking.
I haven't read all the entries in Merriwether's journal. I have read the ones which document their encounters with the grizzly bear. They are referred to as "monsters" more than once. I recommend those entries. Holy shit.
Good to see this. I just found out yesterday I have lupus. Waiting on bloodtests that'll tell me what kind and everything and I've been stressing. This should calm me down a bit.
I am a firm believer that the department of education should develop the "Josh Doctrine" of teaching. I guaran dam tee you, kids would want to be involved. Outstanding ol' son. That said, i lived in Kamiah Idaho for several years, where Lewis and Clark lives were saved by the Neemiipoo...Nez Perce, of which i have currently a Toby mare foaled in Wallowa Valley. Her papers go back to F-300 horses, where were the last of Joseph's horses that were turned into the mountains in the Minam Country when he fled general crook. They were caught and rounded up by Guy Lamb in 1903 or just before and brought down out of the mountains It's quite a story and honor to have one of the last proven direct bloodline to Joseph's horses. My colt is named "Ollokot", who was Joseph's brother and war chief for the wallowa band. He was also the head horseman for the tribe. It was the least i could do, name one of his purebred colts after him, ya know? Look up "wallowa's jubilee". That's my mare
Your research and creativity have made this an incredible video. The eye opening description of this impossible world changing expedition is deep. Sacagawea was an incredible human being.
Thank goodness you came out with a new video Josh, I don’t think I could take another minute of another “political video” of any side. A little “Extravaganza” will do a BRAIN good!
Damn advertisements. Really enjoyed the narration- well if it wasn’t interrupted by over 80 ad interruptions. Made it almost impossible to follow due to the incessant frustration provoked by corporate sponsors. Ridiculous! More ads than content. Shame on TH-cam for that kind of over saturation.
Changed my life going to premium. I spend so much time on YT it's worth the subscription. I don't pay for cable or music, but I love too much YT content like this to fight with ads!@@WildWestExtravaganza
For someone as intelligent as Lewis, I'm dumbfounded he wouldn't hightail it home in one piece and have a LARGER party with more TRADE GOODS to follow immediately after Sacajawea(close enough)had taught 12 men their language and had more language guidance from whoever they could find. After feeling out the customers, they knew what to do in hindsight. Pass it on to the next party and go big. EGO got in his way. As we learned he had issues. God rest his soul they were the bravest men ever in my book.
I was thinking WWE was a reference to the way this guy talks. 🙄 He sounds like he was a third-string character on World Wrestling Entertainment 🤼♂️ (he got knocked out in 30 seconds of a Royal Rumble 'cause he was hit with a metal chair) or is this 🦖 Danny McBride and he's tired of running the ride from 'Land of the Lost'?
Recently found out my 7th Great Grandfather was Johnathan Clark Major General. The older brother of William Clark!!!!!! My last name is Clark so it directly comes from father after father after father and so on.... William Clark would be my 8th Great Uncle 😊
My ancestors were some of the founding families of that area of Louisiana. Granted the land from the Spanish government before French/US control. Think it was 300 acres per family with additional 50 per kid, and they had lots of kids.
Having grown up in Alton, IL (on the Mississippi just north of Wood River) I grew up enmeshed with all things Lewis & Clark (we even have a William Clark as a family name-my nephew is William Clark IV). There is a great museum right on Route 3 in Hartford, IL with a reproduced Camp Dubois, etc. And St. Charles is only 30 minutes away from Alton and they still have quite a few buildings on historic main street that date back to the early 1800s. If you're ever in the the St. Louis area you should definitely check it out.

Who doesn’t like to float a nice river? They went 1,000+ miles upstream, sometimes towing their boats up rapids they couldn’t navigate, sometimes portaging everything they owned…
Clarification: In 1762, France secretly ceded Louisiana to Spain through the Treaty of Fontainebleau, signed on November 3rd. This transfer occurred during the Seven Years’ War (French and Indian War), not after.

That’s awesome! Thank you!
Thank the good Lord up above for this channel, you had me hook, line, add Sinker with the Prescott Bush anecdote. Looking forward to future material and wish you and your Team all the success
Many thanks
This is going to be a great one
Hope it lives up to your expectations
Hahaha, I believed the Coulter and Shields tale hook line and sinker Josh, delightfully bogus stuff 👍😄👍
Thank you! Came across your video as I was seeking Lewis and Clark Info. I'm related to George Drouillard, heck with as "active" as they all were, maybe lots of us are related to him. Thanks for making history interesting and fun!
Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. Clark's grandson, started the Kentucky Derby with the Churchill family supplying the bankroll.
Dude your tangents are hilarious awesome video.
Glad you like them
@@WildWestExtravaganza Me too.
Great video! Dude this guy! 3+ hours on Louis and Clarke…man what discipline…is there a Quantril video?
Not yet, but soon
Thanks from Manchester, England 🏴. 🙏. I’ve read the book A Life Wild and Perilous. Loved it. 🙏🙏👍
Hello Manchester
Outstanding 🩸🦫
Keep em coming.
More to come
"I am 100% certain that I am not pronouncing his name 100% correctly" 😂 man knows his limits.
Man's gotta know his limitations
Nobody understands me like my algorithm! In the past few months its helped me find at least 3 amazing channels.
Heck yeah
I really enjoyed this one ! Talk about tough men. Wow, amazing. Cheers Josh. I've just ordered undaunted courage 👍
Great book, you won’t be disappointed
Wednesday is my favorite day of the week!
Glad to hear it
It's one of my seven favorite days.😃
Those guys worked so hard dragged that keel boat up the river. I remember the accounts of them stopped for rest and falling asleep standing up. Working hard and burning calories. Each man was eating 7 to 9 pounds of red meat a day. After they crossed the rockies heading to the Pacific they were starving. Went from eating 7 pounds of red meat a day east of the rockies to eating fish and nuts and berries west of the rockies and their bodies were starving because they were raised on cow's lol.
First time here, I love the video so far & the commentary.
Glad you’re enjoying it
"Undaunted Courage" (coined by Thomas Jefferson) is THE book on these incredibly brass balled men...if you want a deeper dive.
Never heard of it. Who’s the author?
Just found this channel. Not to be corny, but I think your work is really special
Thank you, I appreciate that
Courage Undaunted is a great book. I loved it.
Same
Enjoyed this, love the "off the cuff" comments, keep it coming, also learned a lot.
Thanks Steve
My first quote from "Courge Undaunted" was regarding separate run-ins with a grizzle bear. The first grizzle bear they encountered was taken down in one shot. The second grizzly bear was shot several times, continued to chase them off a cliff into water and continued to pursue them.
I love this dope narration of history. Subbed.
Much appreciated!
Member of the Whistleverse here. I enjoy all of Simon's channels and found you through him.
Awesome!!!!
I’m sorry to hear that man. You got this
great video, thanks you, I watched it in 4 parts.
read books and journals of their expedition. I can't imagine having the freedom to walk the country' without fences or boundaries
Was not expecting the Simon Wistler shout out. Love that guy, and you too josh.
"That sweet, sweet beaver!!"
LMAO!! That damn near made me spit my coffee out all over my desk lol. That was hilarious lol🤣🤣🤣
Let's Go!! Thanks Josh!!
Let’s gooooooo
Well done Sir 👏
Thanks man
I am a firm believer that the department of education should develop the "Josh Doctrine" of teaching.
They were caught and rounded up by Guy Lamb in 1903 or just before and brought down out of the mountains
It's quite a story and honor to have one of the last proven direct bloodline to Joseph's horses. My colt is named "Ollokot", who was Joseph's brother and war chief for the wallowa band. He was also the head horseman for the tribe. It was the least i could do, name one of his purebred colts after him, ya know? Look up "wallowa's jubilee". That's my mare
Wow, very cool.
Dang man, that's a great piece of personal history. There's always stories behind the story.
Your research and creativity have made this an incredible video. The eye opening description of this impossible world changing expedition is deep. Sacagawea was an incredible human being.
I grew up in Lincoln. Was fascinated with this since I can remember.
Thank goodness you came out with a new video Josh, I don’t think I could take another minute of another “political video” of any side. A little “Extravaganza” will do a BRAIN good!
I’m personally abstaining from politics for the next couple months. It’s doing wonders for my state of mind
@@WildWestExtravaganza well just to let you know I appreciate you
@@whatyaworkingontoday5018 I appreciate that very much
I’m so happy you brought up York. Thank you.
My pleasure
I just finished an e-book called The Fate of the Corp it’s about the members of the Corp of Discovery after their trip was over.
I appreciate the kind words. I know you may not be interested, but there are a few different ways to listen ad free
Changed my life going to premium. I spend so much time on YT it's worth the subscription. I don't pay for cable or music, but I love too much YT content like this to fight with ads!@@WildWestExtravaganza
Pay for premium or go whine to your boyfriend.
Imagine not knowing how to fast forward
Do you expect the man to put out a 3 hour, very in depth and informative video for free???
For someone as intelligent as Lewis, I'm dumbfounded he wouldn't hightail it home in one piece and have a LARGER party with more TRADE GOODS to follow immediately after Sacajawea(close enough)had taught 12 men their language and had more language guidance from whoever they could find. After feeling out the customers, they knew what to do in hindsight. Pass it on to the next party and go big. EGO got in his way. As we learned he had issues. God rest his soul they were the bravest men ever in my book.
I’m sure that was on his mind, as were politics
WWE is the best thing on TH-cam!!
Let’s go!!!
Wrong this is not WWE ass@@WildWestExtravaganza
@WildWestExtravaganza did your nephew write that comment? What did it cost you? Lol..He's right
I thoroughly enjoy every episode! Thanks for this new one...
Very cool
My ancestors were some of the founding families of that area of Louisiana. Granted the land from the Spanish government before French/US control. Think it was 300 acres per family with additional 50 per kid, and they had lots of kids.
Love the long videos. I can't listen to the short ones at work bc I'd be constantly going to my phone and that's annoying.
Got a super long one coming soon
Well done Sir!
Shared with many ftiends and family 🎉❤
Thanks for spreading the word!
hey youre the best cuz u have fun narratinghistory !
Thanks
Having grown up in Alton, IL (on the Mississippi just north of Wood River) I grew up enmeshed with all things Lewis & Clark (we even have a William Clark as a family name-my nephew is William Clark IV). There is a great museum right on Route 3 in Hartford, IL with a reproduced Camp Dubois, etc. And St. Charles is only 30 minutes away from Alton and they still have quite a few buildings on historic main street that date back to the early 1800s. If you're ever in the the St. Louis area you should definitely check it out.
Excellent 2 hour video on American History. Plus a one hour video about pronunciation of saquajuia
About the mercury treatments for STDs: there was a famous graffiti in men's washroom around that time or right before penicillin. I think in France. It said "A night with Venus, a lifetime with Mercury!"'
Ha never heard that before
“History is non binary, it just IS.” Is such an amazing quote. Love your channel, take on history and presentation of facts
Stole that -paraphrased it - from Ken Burns
Either way, still meant everything i said! Love your channel
@ thanks
Love the commentary!😁👍
Thanks
Nothing like hearing 👂 Detroit was just a little post, knowing my family was here 150 years before this. We are still here.
Who doesn’t like to float a nice river? They went 1,000+ miles upstream, sometimes towing their boats up rapids they couldn’t navigate, sometimes portaging everything they owned…
Bro you had me fucked up with that skull story 🤣
I couldnt figure out where we were going but i was along for the ride 😂
Clarification: In 1762, France secretly ceded Louisiana to Spain through the Treaty of Fontainebleau, signed on November 3rd. This transfer occurred during the Seven Years’ War (French and Indian War), not after.
@@jimdowney6773 nah
Great voice really enjoyed this video
Thank you kindly!
“High fived to death by all his buddies.”
I started laughing so hard my dad came in and asked what was so funny.
God, thank you for deliverance from evil and from wickedness and from debauchery, from bad intentions, thank you for days of joy and happiness and goodness and peace and grace and smiles and blessings. I pray that they are rained down on Gods creation In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏 🤍
3hrs of lewis and Clark!...
Fuck yeah!! Very cool. Thank you.
Thank you, David Miller three two six three
Were there any lesser known expeditions similar to Lewis and Clark’s that didn’t go so well?
Idk if it’s you or TH-cam but I’m getting so many ads
I wish they would redo the Oregon trail video game
I was hooked at woolly mamoths and lost welshmen😂😂
Alright. Gonna try and see if this helps me sleep. 🙏🏼
@@twinsboy_3410 get your 8 hours?
Incredible.
Enjoyable unique delivery. Well done. Is that a cigar in that feller's face?
Love this stuff man! Great delivery very informative etc...but entertaining as well big plus... And hopefully my punctuation didn't make you projectile vomit im about as skilled as kit Carson when it comes to this stuff🤔😐🙂
Ha thanks
Has anyone on here heard any updates on the HBO Lewis and Clark miniseries? I saw a casting call in 2021 for a redo on the previous attempt from 2015.
I didn’t know about this but now I’m curious!
@WildWestExtravaganza It's supposed to be produced by Bratt Pitt and Tom Hanks and Star Casey Aflek. Seem like the filming began back in 2015. But there was some king of interpersonal conflict on set, and they stopped filming. And never started again as far as I know.
@@MrKoss973 ah that sucks, sounds like it could have been awesome
The ads, brother... love the channel but hate the new ads
