    If you haven't tried that coconut cream yet, it's so good. We love it (I'm the neighbor.) I've also been the lucky recipient of grapefruit and green peppers (which I dehydrated.) Thanks Chrystal!

      I love you too Miss Linda. I’m so excited to try that coconut cream. I’m gonna have to figure out lots of ways to use it now that I can find it at a price that isn’t an arm and a leg and a left ear. Ha! I’m open to suggestions. 😊

      The red ones shine! And they wall of the peppers are almost 1/4 inch thick! Makes up for the flimsy green peppers. 😊

    Sweetheart, coconut oil alone is crazy good price, coconut cream that's insanely cheap!!! I only use coconut creme to make coquito, its Puerto Rican alcohol beverage for Christmas. Out of curiosity, is there any apples that grow there? Here in CT, new England we have different types of apples. 30 yrs ago, I worked at local orchard... Baldwin's and northern spy were old varieties that were what we called winter apples...they are now harder to find, but were the hardier ones. They were also heirlooms. Best for cooking. Seckle pears, early pears, were small but sweetest, juiciest...again heirloom hard to find. This old lady Jack of all trades, master of none!! Working for the orchard was my favorite job, got discount and could snack while sorting fruit and stocking the "show" room. 🙂

      There are some varieties that can grow here when grafted onto a Siberian root stock. Crab apples micro naturally here in the south of Alaska but I’m not really sure. But for the most part, an apple is not a naturally occurring tree in Alaska.

    You got some really good deals! Can you give some more details about the process for the lemon infused oil? Thanks

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey friend! Take a potato peeler and peel your lemon just like you would be peeling the skin off a potato. You want just the skin just the bright yellow part. Then fill a jar with whatever oil you want to use. I always use olive oil. But sunflower oil would have a lighter taste. Then take all of your peels and put it in the olive oil. Make sure the peels are covered. It needs to sit at least a month to make the oil taste lemony, but the longer you leave it the more lemon flavor you’re going to get in that oil. When I take some oil out to use, I leave the lemon peels in the jar and just fill some more regular olive oil back in the jar and continue to reuse the lemon peels over and over. I will throw away the lemon peels and start again when the lemon peels turn brown and ugly. For me usually that’s a year or so.
      Here’s a link to our video about lots of things to do with lemon peels. I think it’s in there too. Let me know if have any more questions. 😊

    Azure is actually more costly for me than Walmart. Crazy, huh? My life is nothing but an experiment 🤣. Stay safe my friends ☺️

      I think what helps azure being a great deal for me is that things are so expensive in Alaska. So pretty much anything from anywhere else is cheaper. Ha!

    We are moving to Wasilla/Willow. I run a drop and have used azure for 12(?) years and I shop the same with them as you do. I have been watching and preparing for the move up and wondered if you check prices against Costco. I also wondered if you'd share what your drop location is as I know Juneau gets stuff sooner than Anchorage or beyond and I'd like to know about produce going there.
    I believe I found you through a Livestream with another Alaska homesteader.
    One more question...we have an xl HR freeze dryer on layaway. How many panels and batteries do you need to run yours and how many lbs of produce do you get a season? I'm a widow with 4 teens-young adults and doing all I can before getting there to be as prepared as possible. Any tips/advice you recommend to do/bring with/get before coming? Thank you!

      Hey friend! Yep, we know Bill. 😊 I don’t price compare with Costco because its 2 hours away, and I don’t think I should have to pay to shop somewhere, and it’s in Anchorage, which is way too much crazy traffic for me. It would waste an entire day trying to go to town to Costco so for me, that’s completely out. I have friends that go to Costco, and once in a while, they pick up tortillas for me. That’s about all I get from Costco. Our drop is in big Lake about halfway between wasilla and WIllow. Are you moving from Juneau?
      Go ahead and email me at theflattirefarm@gmail.com and then I can give you lots more detailed information about your azure question and your harvest right question. Looking forward to hearing from you!

      I am horrible with writing down recipes. Consequently, everything I make is different every time I make it. But, I promise you that I will work on a coconut curry recipe that tastes the way. I think it supposed to taste, and when I get it figured out I’ll make you a video. I’ll come back to this comment and send you a message whenever I get that video done. No promise on how long it’s gonna take though maybe before Christmas? Ha! Thanks for watching friend. 😊
