There's a very GOOD chance if Whitebeard wasn't ill at that time he would have killed most of the Navy and Blackbeard by himself. It's too bad he was sick at the time. It would have been cool to see Whitebeard fight Akainu and the Navy at full strength at his current age.

Whitebeard really turned up on Akainu. One of the most satisfying beatings, all for Ace's sake. Akainu's face when WB showed up behind up is always the best. At that moment, he knew he fucked up 😂 "The One Piece is real" legendary last words, always gives me chills. Everything was done so well from Whitebeard's final speech, his flashbacks and also how the narrator pointed the amount of WB's sword wounds, bullet wounds and canon wounds but despite all that he kept fighting and stuck it through, you would think he would have died before Ace. He went out like a G and died standing. True embodiment of willpower.

When Akainu had his fist in Ace, there was no smile on his face. Even striking down WhiteBeard, his face is serious. This isn't a game or a sport for him. It's his brand of justice
Correct. Everything Sakazuki does he feels is his duty. Like it needs to be done. He's not sadistic about it. He doesn't take personal satisfaction with what he does. Even when he's finessing the gullible, he only smiles to push their buttons. As soon as he knew the button pushing worked, the smile goes away.

I think I read somewhere that the reason his fruit works like that is because(he can turn parts of his body into shadow but)he can’t turn his whole body into it because of the nature of the black hole aspect, if he turns his whole body into it he would cease to exist or disappear or something, but idk don’t quote me on that lol

From a narrative standpoint, Jiraiya's end is the best for me. From a character perspective, I like how Whitebeard died just as much. They are very different but so impactful. Whitebeard is my favourite One Piece character, and I think his end measures up to how epic a person he was in-universe. Jiraiya dying at the hands of his student while on a mission to save the world and prevent his latest student from being taken and killed is equally amazing. Jiraiya's situation is just more emotionally charged for me, and the writing of how Pain was following Jiraiya's words, but in a twisted way was masterful.

in the Manga whitebeared had a few wounds on his back but all of them fresh and all of them were actually wounds he got from the front(stabs) that penetrated his body all the way to his back. the last few minutes of episode 485 are one of the most legendary moments in all of One Piece. the Anime did this moment so much justice that even the Manga pales in comparison(and the Manga was really good as well).
I disagree. The anime did a fantastic job, but censoring the blades sticking out of his body and a third of his face melted off was incredible. I wish someone would reanimate it.
The thing that makes me so happy is RT TV hasn't finished their journey yet. They don't know the rest of the story and the big points to come. When they finally get to the current arc they're going to lose their minds with the animation. I can't wait to see those reactions.

I’ve watched the series a few times through, just now caught Oda capping about Whitebeard: he clearly had a back wound from when Squard skewered him
wish the anime didn't censor. at 6:27 when akainu blasts half his moustache away, that blast actually took off about a third of Whitebeard's head. Dude was missing half his brain for the rest of the war.

Akainu is in his prime, barely fought the war until that point. Also, he surviving direct hits from the Quake-Quake hits could be atribute to him being a logia and shifting into a formless state.
Akainu only survive the fight because whitebeard at that point was wasted, he already had 2 mortal wounds on his torso, Akainu also got lucky.
Besides Luffy, the only character until this part of the story that could take that amount of damage and still function was Whitebeard. Both Akainu and Blackbeard are skew fighters, they never even dare fighting Whitebeard in his prime, but here they are plotting the old man into his own death. Only after he was mortally wounded they dare fight him and they still got mess up, both actually lost to whitebeard, the old guy actually die by the excess amount of damage inflicted in this war and even then he could still hold a last breath to say some stuff and enrage Sengoku.
