For real. Before I watched One Piece Ace dying in Marineford was already spoiled to me. I didn't know how it was going to happened butI knew he died but damn I wasn't expecting to be hit in the feels that hard until Luffy broke. That hit me in the feels hard. Luffy's VA was amazing 👏

The craziest part is that he easily could have killed Akainu despite all of that, and only didn’t because he was a pure hearted family man who was stated to have never killed anyone, not even Blackbeard or Akainu who both killed his sons. He had an unbelievable amount of mercy towards both simply out of love for everyone. Rewatch it, he spares tons of people he could kill easily and spared Akainu and Blackbeard who aren’t so easy but he was definitely capable even in his old age with injuries and nerfs

If you think about it, Whitebeard really was the father that Ace really had. After Gol .D’s death due to execution, Whitebeard took Ace under his wing and protected him, training him into who he was until his death. for the most part we have seen Newgate as a father, a noble man willing to put his life on the line for his sons. But here, we see him as Whitebeard, an emperor of the sea whos ruled for decades and rivaled the King. BTW in the manga rather then his mustache, akainu blows off half his face and he still keeps going.
Whitebeard was the only man who could stand with the king. He could have been king, he was easily strong enough but he never wanted it, all Whitebeard ever wanted was a family. Akainu broke the cardinal rule, he hurt one of his family. This old sick man far past his prime, injured and weakened made one of the WGs strongest fighters look like a pup. If whitebeard was in his prime, nothing and no-one would have left Marineford alive. Even if Shanks was there. What an absolute monster.
I wish they atleast made Akainu suffer an injury that doesn’t make him retire but makes his every day inconvenient. Something that kinda mimics how Whitebeard was on life support.

After Gol .D’s death due to execution, Whitebeard took Ace under his wing and protected him, training him into who he was until his death. Akainu broke the cardinal rule, he hurt one of his family. This old sick man far past his prime, injured and weakened made one of the WGs strongest fighters look like a pup. If whitebeard was in his prime, nothing and no-one would have left Marineford alive. Even if Shanks was there. What an absolute monster.
