  • James IV of Scotland Stories from Scotland's past. King James IV of Scotland was the last king to die on the battlefield in Britain. He was the last in a long line of rulers, particularly from Scotland, to meet their end in such a manner. James IV is generally regarded as the most successful of the Stewart monarchs of Scotland, but his reign ended in a disastrous defeat at the Battle of Flodden. James IV was married in 1503 to Margaret Tudor which linked the royal houses of Scotland and England. It led to the Union of the Crowns in 1603. James IV had a sad and ignominious end for he was one of Scotland's most charismatic warrior kings.

It's refreshing to view his legacy as its own for a moment. Many of us are related to many on all sides of these histories & it's can be hard to resist imagining as heroes & villains. Accepting that heroes are flawed also means accepting that villains can be formidable too.

I really enjoyed your video. I learned today my 15th Great Grandfather was King James IV. I was able to trace back to Bran Fendigaid of Siluria where the records ended for the parental line. I've still to research the maternal connections. I would enjoy to watch anything you may have on them as well. Again entertaining video. Hello from the US.

As Henry VIII declared war on France due to his alliance with Maximillian I of the Holy Roman Empire and Ferdinand II of Aragon, James invaded England in order to fulfill his alliance with France. He was beaten by the forces of Thomas Howard, under the regency of Henry’s first wife Catherine of Aragon (Ferdinand’s daughter).
