Like the video said some people think it's 7, 9 or 23 years long depending on when you argue the war actually began. 2. People would get confused to war names and may not recognize 116 years war for the 100 years war. 3. Would mean a change in all history books and we can change retroactively. We wont amend the words of ancient historians just to change the names. So we would need to remember new war names and old ones. Just my thoughts on why even our imperfect system kind of works.

Gotta love it when different "pieces" of history fall together to form a bigger picture. For instance, I knew about Catherine the Great and her man-child husband, the French and Indian War, as we call it here in the Colonies, and a few of the smaller things, but I never really realized they all happened at the same time, nor that they were so interconnected.
I was never a huge fan of the term "World War". The Wars of Succession, Seven Years War and Napoleonic Wars all featured conflicts on multiple continents.
This would make such a good TV/Netflix series, each episode could be dedicated to a different region of the 7 years war. You could have kings and Generals be main characters in every episode to discuss and provide context for the bigger picture strategies, but also have a side plot in every episode focusing in a particular soldier or people affected by the war. It would easily meet all the "diversity qoutas" that modern entertainment has to meet but still tell a believable historical tale. You could have an episode dedicated to the Sepoys in India, natives in North America, Prussians in Europe, Naval battles in the caribbean, natives in South America, Portuguese, west africa, and so many more interesting and unique perspectives to show. So each episode will give you a story about a random person involved in the conflict and could also show a recurring set of Nobles, kings, or generals giving you the context of whatever character your following that episode. God I wish I was rich, I would hire the best historians and the best writers and go all out on practical effects, costumes, ships, weapons, art, set peices, I wouldn't even care if I lost money making it. 😅
Vietnam was once part of French Indochina, controlled by France, of course, hence, the name “French” Indochina. So you could say the Vietnamese learnt from France.
I would really like to see an episode on the Italian campaign in WWII (Like from Sicily to Rome) or a detailed analysis on the Battle of Gettysburg. Great video btw keep up the good work
If you are interested in the Italian campaign ( Operations Husky, Struggle, Avalanche, Shingle) then I highly recommend you read Churchill. He will satisfy you more than enough in the department of detail.
Why everybody forgets the glorious "Landgraviate Hessen-Kassel", "Shire Schaumburg-Lippe" and "Princepality of Braunschweig-Wolfbüttel" which fought on Prussias side, against the rest of the Reich.

The Battle of Plassey in India is being marked as the beginning of British rule in India. I live in Kolkata, capital of Indian state of West Bengal but my native is in Plassey. It's 3hrs on train from Kolkata. The battle of Plassey was fought in a mango orchid and it's still there. It's a tourist spot now.

A war is named a „World War” if there are countries fighting from multiples continents. In this 7 year war, they fought around the world, but the countries that was fighting were all from Europe: France, Great Britain, Prussia, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Portugal... All from Europe. Instead in WW1 besides european countries there were USA, from american continent, Japan from Asia and many more. In WW2, it is the same, countries from multiples continents.
OMG there was a territory called "Pomerania", I now have a picture of little fluffy dogs all lined up with muskets and the peaked hats of the Prussian's.

I am a Historian and your channel is great! I’m well aware of the amount of research that’s involved. Though I agree with 95% of what you say... It’s cool, there’s nothing better than a good Ole’ Historical debate. I did watch your video asking people like conflicts they’d like covered and I did get a bit of a laugh. Some of the conflicts people asked you about; Scholars & Historians have spent years if not decades or more studying some of these conflicts! So to put 10 to 15 years of study into a 30 min video is extremely hard & you do a great job! The one conflict that has been baffling Scholars & Historians for 100’s of years, is the Third Severian war. Not so much on Military great tactical maneuvering & some major blunders ( we know now why when Spartacus did reach Alpine way ) he chose to turn his Army around. But the REAL mystery to all of us Scholars is; how the Hell did he keep a bunch Warring Clans, Cultures & Slaves that normally have been killing each other for Centuries before the expansion of the Roman Empire lol united for 1 common cause??!! We do know he must have had some EXTREMELY Loyal General’s! But to ACTUALLY keep of all the different Nationalities, Cultures, Clans, Tripes completely loyal? We know there was a split between him and one of his greatest Generals Crixus. But many of us ( including myself ) believe that was a Military tactical decision, to help the men, women, and children, Slaves, to try and get them out of Rome’s reach. What we don’t know is how Spartacus kept a bunch of Extremely Vicious Gladiators, murders, cutthroats and rapists in line? That is an AMAZING accomplishment in itself? I’m Québécois, born in Fort Lauderdale! Florida has a large French Canadian population-some seasonal and some being “long time visitors.” Not as many English Canadians, who all hate us anyway.
Here in America (US), that's we call it, the French and Indian War. I didn't learn about the European theater of the Seven Years War until I was much older, in school we mostly focused on the conquest of Canada and the Ohio River Valley. This conflict really was the true World War I in many ways.

Hmm, you omitted a small element - The Treaty of Paris gave all lands in North America...except for the two small islands of St-Pierre and Miquelon on the southern coast of Newfoundland. This has actually had some historical significance as when Canadian cod fishing in the area was being controlled for several years to allow fish populations to recover from overfishing back in the 1990s, France actually took advantage of the situation with those two islands to increase their own fishing fleets.
The East India Company deserves a series of its own. From minor trading power getting picked on by the Dutch VOC and slapped down by Mughals to a major regional powerhouse with (at its height) a private army some 200,000 strong and wealthy/important enough as a commerical institution to force the Crown to bail them out.
George II's death also possibly helped change the course of world history: George III came to the throne and set off a chain of events that might have led to the American Revolutionary War (although PM Lord North was the MAJOR villain of the whole taxation and military crisis).

Couple of things: (1) Madras is pronounced "Mad-raas", and (2) the British victory in India was not a victory for the British Crown but rather the British East India Company - who would have full administrative control of the sub-continent until this was taken from them after the Indian Mutiny of 1857 - 58.

The Dutch war for independence was a global/world war: in addition to Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Asia (Nagasaki, Taiwan, Indonesia, Ceylon/Sri Lanka), and Australasia (New Zealand and Australia discovered). Spain ceded La Florida to Britain in order to get Havana back, their HQ in the Caribbean.

Britain should never have fought that 7 yrs war in the colonies, not without a binding contract assuring the colonies would help shoulder the financial burden one day. The cost to Britain was around £70 million, doubling the national debt to around £136 million and crippling the nation. Later on, when the colonies refused to help pay, Britain applied taxes. Britain's taxes on the colonies amounted to an average of around 1% of earnings (mostly on trade goods). Sources vary a little but it was around 1% of income or quite close. This equates to about 1 shilling per colonist per annum. 2.5 million colonists yields an annual revenue of circa £125,000. Inflation in 1760 was 3.8%, of £70 million yields an annual interest of around £2.45 million, of which £125,000 is only about 5% of. In other words, the tax being levied by (tyrannical?) Britain on the colonies in the 1770's would only have paid 5% of the _interest_ on the defense spending by Britain to protect the colonies. Protecting them from being turned into New France. Thanks for your help Britain, thanks for your thousands of red coats that lost their lives protecting us......France isn't a problem for us anymore, therefore we no longer need your services, so get lost. The choice of "I Vow to Thee My Country" with the rise of British victories is a nice choice (though being a bit anachronistic as the words and tune were written in the 20th century).
The French demolished Fort Duquesne to prevent its capture, and Fort Pitt was built on the same site but considerably bigger. You can see the outlines of both in Point State Park.

I think the part of the Carnatic war that happened in India had a few details missed. Like the part that where the commander of the Bengal forces defected to the British with a large portion of the army. That was the root cause of the defeat. The defector Mir Jafar was made the new ruler of Bengal by the British.
At that point, the commonwealth was really weak and was on its last legs to the point that Prussia and Russia could literally walk by without much trouble.
I became interested in the Seven Year's War while studying the American Revolution. It was going to be next on the agenda, but now that I see how damned complicated it was, I'm having second thoughts. Clearly, to master the subject will require the investment of much more time than I had contemplated. I guess I'll just have to settle for a severely reduced version. However, seeing this video does make it much more clear just how important America was to England in the greater scheme of things: not very. Sure, we won our independence, but England had much greater interests. I'm now much more proud of the accomplishments of my English ancestors. Incidentally, do you know when what we call the French-Indian war occurred. Right, 1754-1763. How pathetic are those present day Englishmen who are ashamed of their country's glorious history.

nice video, learned smth here. a few suggestions though: dont just mention the names of settlements were major battles were, but show them on the map including dates, troop movements, their numbers and casualties. (most importantly in written numbers) 12:30 the map is confusing to people unfamiliar with the hre. maybe an extra border line for the whole thing would have been better. (i dont really know why you excluded bavaria and other non important states, is that elsass right next to it?) but like i said, very entertaining/interesting video about the 7-years war, most other videos i watched just focus on the british aspect like xtra history, even though frederic II, once again, started it all. i dont know if your audience would be up for this, but maybe the 2 silesian wars (the 7-years war is regarded as the third) would be an interesting topic to cover. especially its main protagonists frederic and maria theresia?
William Pitt’s plan worked beyond his wildest dreams, perhaps too well, as the debts France accrued in this war would be the primary cause of the revolution that toppled the French monarchy and loosed the Napoleonic wars onto the monarchies of Europe.
Fort Pitt is Point Park now. The only original structure left is the block house, which is open to the public. There's a museum there as well. If you're ever in Pittsburgh it's definitely worth checking out.

If you are interested in the Italian campaign ( Operations Husky, Struggle, Avalanche, Shingle) then I highly recommend you read Churchill. He will satisfy you more than enough in the department of detail.

As a Canadian I'm very surprised I was never taught about this war in school its pretty darn important learning about it now.
We do learn about it, but only about the North American part of the conflict.

A war is named a „World War” if there are countries fighting from multiples continents. In this 7 year war, they fought around the world, but the countries that was fighting were all from Europe: France, Great Britain, Prussia, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Portugal... All from Europe. Instead in WW1 besides european countries there were USA, from american continent, Japan from Asia and many more. In WW2, it is the same, countries from multiples continents.
OMG there was a territory called "Pomerania", I now have a picture of little fluffy dogs all lined up with muskets and the peaked hats of the Prussian's.

Well Britain was by itself fighting several different foreign armies and the French across the globe so I think that's fair.

It makes sense since it was a frontier skirmish only in Americas for 1st 2 years and no nations officially declared war.
Actually it lasted 7 years for those countries that conined it. For their allies, it lasted a bit longer, ie the British and French.
It had more names than those actually.

I am a Historian and your channel is great! I’m well aware of the amount of research that’s involved. Though I agree with 95% of what you say... It’s cool, there’s nothing better than a good Ole’ Historical debate. I did watch your video asking people like conflicts they’d like covered and I did get a bit of a laugh. Some of the conflicts people asked you about; Scholars & Historians have spent years if not decades or more studying some of these conflicts! So to put 10 to 15 years of study into a 30 min video is extremely hard & you do a great job! The one conflict that has been baffling Scholars & Historians for 100’s of years, is the Third Severian war. Not so much on Military great tactical maneuvering & some major blunders ( we know now why when Spartacus did reach Alpine way ) he chose to turn his Army around. But the REAL mystery to all of us Scholars is; how the Hell did he keep a bunch Warring Clans, Cultures & Slaves that normally have been killing each other for Centuries before the expansion of the Roman Empire lol united for 1 common cause??!! We do know he must have had some EXTREMELY Loyal General’s! But to ACTUALLY keep of all the different Nationalities, Cultures, Clans, Tripes completely loyal? We know there was a split between him and one of his greatest Generals Crixus. But many of us ( including myself ) believe that was a Military tactical decision, to help the men, women, and children, Slaves, to try and get them out of Rome’s reach. What we don’t know is how Spartacus kept a bunch of Extremely Vicious Gladiators, murders, cutthroats and rapists in line? That is an AMAZING accomplishment in itself? When that needs MUCH more debate!

I’m Québécois, born in Fort Lauderdale! Florida has a large French Canadian population-some seasonal and some being “long time visitors.” Not as many English Canadians, who all hate us anyway.
Here in America (US), that's we call it, the French and Indian War. I didn't learn about the European theater of the Seven Years War until I was much older, in school we mostly focused on the conquest of Canada and the Ohio River Valley. This conflict really was the true World War I in many ways.

Hmm, you omitted a small element - The Treaty of Paris gave all lands in North America...except for the two small islands of St-Pierre and Miquelon on the southern coast of Newfoundland.
This has actually had some historical significance as when Canadian cod fishing in the area was being controlled for several years to allow fish populations to recover from overfishing back in the 1990s, France actually took advantage of the situation with those two islands to increase their own fishing fleets.
The East India Company deserves a series of its own. From minor trading power getting picked on by the Dutch VOC and slapped down by Mughals to a major regional powerhouse with (at its height) a private army some 200,000 strong and wealthy/important enough as a commerical institution to force the Crown to bail them out.
Also I forgot they also has their own navy and merchant fleet.

Couple of things: (1) Madras is pronounced "Mad-raas", and (2) the British victory in India was not a victory for the British Crown but rather the British East India Company - who would have full administrative control of the sub-continent until this was taken from them after the Indian Mutiny of 1857 - 58.

I live in the german town of Warburg, which is somewhat famous for having a battle between France and GB in the seven years war in around this phase of the war: 12:44 -12:49
Britain should never have fought that 7 yrs war in the colonies, not without a binding contract assuring the colonies would help shoulder the financial burden one day.
The cost to Britain was around £70 million, doubling the national debt to around £136 million and crippling the nation. Later on, when the colonies refused to help pay, Britain applied taxes. Britain's taxes on the colonies amounted to an average of around 1% of earnings (mostly on trade goods). Sources vary a little but it was around 1% of income or quite close. This equates to about 1 shilling per colonist per annum. 2.5 million colonists yields an annual revenue of circa £125,000. Inflation in 1760 was 3.8%, of £70 million yields an annual interest of around £2.45 million, of which £125,000 is only about 5% of. In other words, the tax being levied by (tyrannical?) Britain on the colonies in the 1770's would only have paid 5% of the _interest_ on the defense spending by Britain to protect the colonies. Protecting them from being turned into New France.

The French demolished Fort Duquesne to prevent its capture, and Fort Pitt was built on the same site but considerably bigger. You can see the outlines of both in Point State Park.

I think the part of the Carnatic war that happened in India had a few details missed. Like the part that where the commander of the Bengal forces defected to the British with a large portion of the army. That was the root cause of the defeat. The defector Mir Jafar was made the new ruler of Bengal by the British.

I became interested in the Seven Year's War while studying the American Revolution. It was going to be next on the agenda, but now that I see how damned complicated it was, I'm having second thoughts. Clearly, to master the subject will require the investment of much more time than I had contemplated. I guess I'll just have to settle for a severely reduced version. However, seeing this video does make it much more clear just how important America was to England in the greater scheme of things: not very. Sure, we won our independence, but England had much greater interests. I'm now much more proud of the accomplishments of my English ancestors. Incidentally, do you know when what we call the French-Indian war occurred. Right, 1754-1763. How pathetic are those present day Englishmen who are ashamed of their country's glorious history.

nice video, learned smth here. a few suggestions though:
dont just mention the names of settlements were major battles were, but show them on the map including dates, troop movements, their numbers and casualties. (most importantly in written numbers)
12:30 the map is confusing to people unfamiliar with the hre. maybe an extra border line for the whole thing would have been better. (i dont really know why you excluded bavaria and other non important states, is that elsass right next to it?)
but like i said, very entertaining/interesting video about the 7-years war, most other videos i watched just focus on the british aspect like xtra history, even though frederic II, once again, started it all.

William Pitt’s plan worked beyond his wildest dreams, perhaps too well, as the debts France accrued in this war would be the primary cause of the revolution that toppled the French monarchy and loosed the Napoleonic wars onto the monarchies of Europe.
It also caused the American Revolution however, but that was probably exacerbated by terrible policy

Fort Pitt is Point Park now. The only original structure left is the block house, which is open to the public. There's a museum there as well. If you're ever in Pittsburgh it's definitely worth checking out.
