      @@johnhicks8626left the cord with the psu cables, lol. For the puck I leave it on the cases side shell sometimes and it gives off a tidy look. I got the red s340 elite, $50 two years ago. I want to upgrade to something from China so my pc is lighter idc about the materials I find the cheaper ones are often better with airflow, lol. But the s340 elite is my baby I'll put a scrape build in or swap it for something I find of value.

    I found another use for the HDMI pass-through. I put an Elgato HD60 S inside my case attached to the cable management bar. Now whenever I want to record an HDMI source, I can plug it into the top of the case. Simple and keeps the cable clutter off my desk.

      I've been trying to figure out how to look for a GPU with front-facing HDMI for this reason... Manufacturers don't really market them very well... This is a brilliant idea. A "dead" front-facing port would kill me haha.. So a cap-card is actually a good use for it!

      Not that the reviewer mentioned it, but the case has a cable long enough and a designated cut out for the passthrough hdmi cable to plug right into the back of a gpu. What he also failed to grasp was the fact the hmdi passthough isn't to extend cable length but make it easier to simply plug in vr devices without the hassle of reaching round back of the case to plug in a couple of cables especially if you have your set-up like me, under my desk with restricted access to the rear I/O.

      How did you mount the HD60s? Also, if im using the hd60s for recording/streaming Xbox One gameplay, mounting it inside the case would require me to play the xbox using my monitor? I currently am setup to stream from the couch on my TV, and i rather enjoy that.

    To my knowledge, those comments about airflow are completely wrong. If you have no top fan and mount a rad in the back as exhaust almost no air will enter the case from above. Hot air from the gpu/cpu would rise and exit partially in the rear and the top which would mean top grill would do absolutely nothing. You need to create positive air pressure. Testing without good front intake fans is irrelevant, since nobody in their right mind would leave the airflow at stock. The "no air for intake" argument makes no sense to me since the s340 non elite has the same design, no side mesh, psu shroud, identical situation and it has good airflow with dual intake fans

    i am unsure how testing was done for this review, this case as well as the s340 keep components cool just fine with an AIO radiator installed at the front. if you have a tower cooler just install 2 120 or 140mm fans at the front as well. the top and bottom ports are pretty wide and allow plenty of air to enter the case. i think you should have tested it with fans at the front when doing the temp charts or simply re-positioning the included ones. personally i have done several builds around this chassis using AIO and even stock heatsink and with that experience cannot agree with that part of your review. also you cannot place a fan at the bottom where the air would just go to the bottom section of the case. there is no space there to mount one. both fans go from the middle to the top. one other thing the elite fixed over the s340 is the rear vertical cover that mounts after the video card is installed. on the s340 if you had a radiator installed at the rear location you where not able to install that bracket after. but in the elite that bracket was tweaked a bit and now it is possible to remove or place it without having to remove the radiator. i understand what you talk about, the airflow can always be improved. but it is by no means how your last statement makes it out to be. other than those and a couple more details on improvements you missed this is a great review

    I'd like to give you a friendly yet stern advice on your testing methodology. You should definitely implement front intake fans in all of the cases that you test, in order to appropriately test these cases. The truth is, no one is going to buy these cases and not implement front intake fans on them. I'm pretty sure in 2017, a lot of people are aware of the importance of airflow. A lot of people might already have a case and will use those fans in the new case, while others will simply buy 2 extra fans. This is a very important point because, the fact that you guys are testing all your cases without front intakes installed, makes the results completely useless. Sorry I just really need to get this point through to you guys. Your case tests can be extremely useful if you do it the correct way.

    Hey Steve, love the videos. I disagree with your methodology for this review as it pertains to the system you put in it. NZXT S340 Elite and non-Elite versions are really designed to sell Krakens. They don't give you a front fan because they intend for you to put a 240 or 280 radiator there, which would give you more (though slightly warmer) airflow. If you don't do that, they expect you'll buy a pair of 120's or 140's. You put all air-cooled hardware in there without any intake fans, which was never how they intended for the case to be set up. In mine, I have a Kraken X42 in the top slot and a BeQuiet! Silent Wings 3 on bottom to feed the triple fan GPU that fits in the case. My 970 GPU temps with a 10% OC stubbornly stay at 59c. 7700K at 4.8 GHz stays around 60c under load as well. I think it's really a completely different case when you add some intake. Feel free to knock NZXT for not providing them for you, but please don't imply the case has some kind of design flaw when you didn't test it with intake cooling fans. It's not like intake cooling is not supported or something.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @simplydesan211
      @simplydesan211 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheVillainOfTheYear
      Interesting. Are you till running such system and how AIOs hold up? Where you installed GPU cooler, in front?
      I don't understand how an AIO in front can improve airflow, sorry.
      If you mount it with the aspiring fans inside the case, it aspire hot air.
      But if you mount it with intake fans from the outside, your AIO will blow hot air in your case.

    • @TheVillainOfTheYear
      @TheVillainOfTheYear 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simplydesan211 still running the same system after 4 years with zero issues. The gradient of air temperature before the radiator to after radiator really isn't that high. The radiator warms the air a little, but it's still not so hot (when used at normal operating temps) that it affects everything else.
      I have Kraken as intake in S340 with load temps on my 7700k that it's cooling at about 70 degrees with my water cooled 1070 Ti with a rear 120mm exhaust radiator running around 63 degrees. The most important thing to get the freshest air is the radiators for your hottest components. They will benefit the most from cool air. Slightly warmer air going over low power components like your RAM is not noticeable.

      Month old but ^^ - he's still doing it so I've been going back through his case reviews. I seriously don't get it, I don't understand his logic in putting comparing cases 'stock' ... as though the average PC builder would build a system without front intake fans.
      Like back along when this review first came out, he was quite literally the ONLY reviewer saying this shit - because he was the only reviewer putting a case with no intake fans installed, up against cases like the 570X with its triple intake fans ... just, what sort of skewed and biased methodology is that? and he's still doing it. His logic, I guess is - 'oh but its how they come stock' - uh ... that logic just doesn't fly? unless the PC Builder in question is adversely stupid, even a beginner rarely makes that mistake, even beginners purchase enough fans for them to fully occupy the front intake.
      But hey, pretty sure the reason why Gamers Nexus is getting less an less review samples from case manufacturers is due to this, its in no way a fair way to compare cases and gauge the cases Airflow. It's a shame, since he can be a pretty cool dude ... just, again a shame that he's such an condescending asshole at times, especially when using such a borked and heavily skewed methodology.
      End of reply to month old statement!

    I can appreciate your attempt at trying to apply some science to your reasoning, but I have to say I think your assessment of this case and it's design are way off. For starters, the "VR" aspects of this case are actually quite compelling, and I believe you missed the point that many users will not. The HDMI pass through provides easy HDMI port accessibility for a device that will constantly be removed from the machine when not in use. You completely missed that one. And the puck is ingenious. Very simple, and nobody came up with that idea prior to their implementation. You didn't even mention that the puck splits into two pieces, which is really great for wrapping up long cables, especially VR, and even wired headsets. It's not the greatest thing ever, but it stands out (I know you split it physically, but you didn't mention it). I think you lacked a bit of foresight and decided to go straight for a condescending stance on NZXT's excitement over their idea. Kinda felt like a hipster move, just my opinion.
    And as far as air cooling, I don't think you understand the physics of airflow very well. The space the front panel provides at the top and bottom is plenty to draw air no matter where the fans are placed on the front. The point is, you have to place fans there in order to assess how they will do. I bet if you did a simple smoke test with fans installed up front, your opinion on this design would probably change a bit. I think most will agree that putting fans in the front of any case will make the biggest difference to overall case cooling. I think your belief that it will not have impact on the GPU is just wrong. The proof is in the amount of users that aren't having cooling problems with this case. I don't know about you, but I don't know many people that are having cooling issues with this case- and there are a ton running it with a huge variety of implementations.

    Im pretty sure the only reason they didn't put the fans in the front cause they did basic research and saw that most people building pcs are using 240-280 radiators so they left the front open for them to put it there. If you would simply just put fans in the front you will see a huge difference and finally the puck can be used for more things then just a vr headset such as headphones or controllers. This is clearly a biased review.

      Honestly that's where my mind went. Don't supply fans, let the user choose their own cooling solution. I mean, two 120mm fans are not expensive. And if you wanted to get an AIO, you're set out of the gate, not having to faff on removing the fans it came with/
      So reviewing this as it is out of the box, which no enthusiast or even passing gamer would actually do, feels REALLY disingenuous.

    How is the bottom fan blowing air into the PSU basement? It would be blowing directly across the GPU(s).

    • @DoblyTufnell
      @DoblyTufnell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the same thought. And even if it was, you could just block the opening into the PSU area no?

    • @Macsimus007
      @Macsimus007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What he meant is that if they positioned a fan there it would go into the psu shroud. Even still a large amount of the air pulled from the "GPU" intake fan gets pulled into the psu shroud. Now you can cover it, but since it's so far away from the bottom and the top, the amount of air it pulls via it's position, is very little.

  • @ruiaraujo6072
    @ruiaraujo6072 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice review but I disagree with the last part. I've had this case for a month now and the front panel does not need the lateral ventilation. I believe that this is because the tempered glass has about 1-2mm distance from the case. The case is not completely sealed with the tempered glass mounted.
    I've got a H80i intaking on this case, with an overclocked i7 6700k 4.65ghz and temps are 51ºc - 58ºc (min core/max core). The radiator's fan is pushing air against the GPU area and it's all the air the GPU needs (r9 280X stock fan speed and max 68ºc on load).
    And this is the case where I'm actually using the "hot" air from the radiator to cool the GPU area. If I did not have a watercooler a regular fan would do even better.

      Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I had to install the fans in a push configuration because the radiator is so tall that it interfears with the USB connections at the top. I am still amazed that I fit an EVGA Z270 with 16 Gigs of ram, 240 mm Corsair AIO radiator in the front, and an EVGA Hybrid 1080 video card with AIO Radiator too. I did fit a snorkel exhaust in the top as well and it is all a bit tight, but it screams! Played the latest Deus Ex game that had lots of complaints about frame rate and such at Ultra settings with no issues. There are some real issues with the EVGA Z270 board fitting perfectly. If you want access to both of the USB3 headers you will have to do some cutting because the forward header is blocked by the case. Otherwise, I am really loving it! Thanks for the advice.
