Can you please investigate Gigabyte's misleading practices regarding their AM5 motherboards? Specifically, the B650 Gaming X. They sell different revisions under the same model name, but the critical difference is that rev 1.3 only supports the Ryzen 7000 series, while rev 1.5 supports the 8000 and 9000 series. When purchasing these motherboards, Gigabyte doesn’t clearly mention the revision number or clarify that different revisions exist, even though they have vastly different compatibility. This lack of transparency is misleading to consumers, as the model names are identical, and buyers might not realize they're purchasing an older revision that limits future upgrades.

why are they wasting time on arm 64, their client is unskinable.
their newly added families code is missing features.
and their moderation team varies from bots to can't read to cant understand context.
i have been unfairly banned.. for 3 years from gang stalking alone.
meaning i cannot edit my account or share content on steam now for 3 years.... it's unfair and their not even trying to look into it.

@@drewnewby first off, they’re talking ONLY about the Gaming X AX. Not the V2. Secondly, No one buys directly from gigabyte. Every retailer that lists that board does not list the revision. That’s the problem, and that’s gigabyte’s problem when they release 5 B650 Gaming X AX boards, all named the same, with extremely varied specs. And yes, the board is still sold now, and if you order on Amazon, you have no way of knowing which revision you get.

What people need to understand with regard to Nvidia's price/performance is that this is no longer 2005; they don't get their profits from gamers now. They can charge silly money a) because we'll pay it, mostly and b) because their high-margin stuff is way more important to them. Things are not going back to 'old pricing' any time soon.

I thought this years and years back but the PC market is not enthusiasts. It's a bunch of people that pretend they are enthusiasts but they are the equivalent of a 'car expert' that will only ever by one brand of car or a 'phone lover' that only buys iphones haha. It's really weird to me that the wealthier ones that upgrade every year, sometimes even more, and can easily try other brands just for fun (something enthusiasts would normally want to do, warts and all for the experience and enjoyment of trying tech) just don't do that.
They're just Nvidia fanboys, they're not tech enthusiasts more than they are tech snobs and refuse to try other stuff even if priced fairly for the performance etc. I didn't rush to this conclusion but year after year it feels like it's proven by unshifting obsession with one graphics card brand, even after they constantly put out overpriced cards and put the industry into a terrible state.

I just bought the a380 and frankly, it kinda sucked. Even though the intel arc drivers were built into Ubuntu for months now natively, I still got really buggy performance for the 1 thing I actually care about... transcoding to AV1. I got lots of transcodes that happily completed only to be black screens with audio. Those were roughly 2/3. When an encode did magically succeed, it was clear that the quality wasn't there. Looks like us data hoarders are stuck with CPU AV1 Transcoding. It's cool for streaming though... if it worked lol. I'm tempted to keep it and plug it in again in a few months. But also, $200 is $200 and I might as well use that money for a new PSU that I actually need. Oh well.

Just wanted to add that proton is build upon WINE (and DXVK, VK3D...). So contrasting them as one being good and the other being bad doesn't make much sense. Those projects do not get the recognition they should by being hidden behind the common "Proton" name. Of course Valve, through direct contributions or subcontracting, improved them a ton.

It’s as right now the top of the line consumer gpu, so they still expect to get a premium for it.

games like Cyberpunk 2077 with native 4K + RT + Pathtracing already take 17GB of VRAM max (with a 4090), doesn't this mean gamers that spend a fortune for a 80 are getting screwed again ?

I think the 5090 will have the same 450w tdp as the 4090 but like my Asus Tuf OC RTX 4090 with its 4 slot design and a 33% manual power OC ability. That makes up the difference. Similar to rumours for the 4090. In the end they use less power than the 3090 and 3090 Ti. After all the rumours.
The rumours with the 5090 having about 3000mhz as the core boost clock might be interesting. As with my 4090 and other decently cooled cards they basically shave off 400mhz of the actual.
My 4090 without touching anything boosts up to 2910mhz. I plus 130 on the core and it lives in the 2970-3060mhz land. Top hot spot logged at 73 degrees.
Looking forward to some decent 4k inbuilt benches. Such as the maxed out Cyberpunk and flight sim 2024, plus 3Dmarks

So now they are packaging a 5070 as a 5080 and almost certainly upping the price on that as well.
Sure as shit the 5090 is going to be going up to a minimum of two grand if not two and a half due to the massive performance gulf.

people buying 4000 cards coincide with the time when cryptos finally died and GPU prices went from insane to better, that's when people upgraded.
only the RTX 4060 is almost the same price (when accounting inflation) as it was before the price hike in 2016, it's only 7 more euros than pre-price hike in Europe, so it has a good value now at least.
not the case for every other card higher than a 4060 however.

Sorry if this isn't the right forum to submit this topic suggestion, but speaking of Intel ARC when you get through your current backlog of content you should definitely look into ASUS' lack of driver updates. I have an ASUS Zenbook Flip OLED 15 with a 12700H and ARC 370M. The most recent drivers available from ASUS for the GPU are from late 2022. I dont need to tell you how imperative driver updates are to ARC cards and they make the laptop essentially unusable for graohically intensive tasks like games and photo/video editing. Manually downloading the most recent Intel drivers cause a number of reliability issues like improperly handling lid open/close behavior, rapid discharging (fans on max and hot to touch even with basic navigation) and the 96WH battery dies in 2 hours. There's a lot to like about the laptop but ASUS' lack of support absolutely kills otherwise great hardware.

Take the rtx 5xxx GPU rumours with an extra pinch of salt, since the leaker had an awful trackrecord as of late. That said if this turns out accurate in the CUDA core counts, oh boy. This would position the alleged 5080 at half the hardware spec of the 5090, which afaik is a first and aligns closer to the historical xx70 segment of Nvidia GPU segmenting than the xx80 cards.
The current gen of Nvidia GPUs already seems like every SKU below the 4090 has effectively dropped a step in hardware specs compared to their nominal designations (something to which I'll always just point at the fact they tried to sell us the 4080 12GB), but if the rumour holds true Nvidia may yet double down on it and demand people pay two steps of branding surcharge on the actual hardware, which would be insane!
This is what we get when there's no competition, what with AMD seemingly deciding not to compete in the high end segment going forward (at least for the foreseeable future as said by AMD themselves). This is really bad news for someone like me who actually wanted to upgrade my ageing GPU for a while now ... I can only hope that AMD can translate it's focus on the middle performance segment into a highly competitive market to drive up performance and costs down so that an upgrade in that performance category becomes good value AND a solid performance total.
    Pain!
