About 10 years ago, the Sci-Fi Channel acquired syndication rights for the original Star Trek television series. For years, the shows had been cut down to fit the amount of commercial time needed for current day programs (there was less commercial time during the original 60's run). Sci-Fi fixed this problem by making the time slot a full hour and a half. Dubbed "Star Trek The Sci-Fi Channel Special Edition", the episodes would be supplemented with original interviews with the cast and crew discussing each episode. The interviews and extra bits were especially entertaining since it featured more than just the standard cast but also highlighted guest actors, writers, etc.
I taped each and every episode as they aired (even though sometimes I hit record a little late and missed a minute or two). The interviews and extras really are neat, and since I've never seen them on youtube, I decided to dig out the tapes and start grabbing out all of the extra bits. I've found probably 75% of the tapes so far, and I hope to find the rest eventually. I hope it's okay with Sci-Fi if I post these. I'm just trying to get them out there for those who may have missed these years ago....
These are the extra bits from the episode "Journey To Babel". Enjoy, and be sure to subscribe to catch them all. Oh, and if you have time, check out my daily blog on all things Trek: www.apieceofthe...

True, this is THE BEST EPISODE. "Amok time" would come second. This is so emotional, so unexpected, so unpredictable. Thank you for sharing.

Spock deals with his first Kobayashi Maru scenario. The needs of the many (Federation peace) outway the needs of the few ( Amanda and Spock ) or the one ( Sarek ). He chooses to take command after Kirk is immobilized and not the blood transfusion to save his fathers life. RNB

Actually, Spock was not letting his father down. He was letting his mother down. His father, Sarek, would be appalled if his son gave up command, risking hundreds of lives simply to save one man for personal reasons. It would disappoint Sarek greatly that his son did not act as a Vulcan but instead let his human emotions control him.

      As is logical.

When Sarek complimented his son, I found Sarek's logic impeccable.

If you don't go and say sorry to him now, you will be regretting it for the rest of your life. Now is the time to speak to him again, Spock!
Peter Parker did not get the chance to say sorry to his Uncle Ben. Remember?
    Sound familiar?

That slap was not not so much from anger at Spock but from the years of torment living the life of a Vulcan and having to hold back her human traits in order to be a proper Vulcan wife and having to bear a life with no open displays of affection.

At times, she could be ... quite illogical.

    Spock: Emotional, isn't she?
Sarek: She has always been that way.
Spock: Indeed. Why did you marry her?
Sarek: At the time, it seemed like the logical thing to do.
I justify my own marriage the same way.

For me, this has always been the very best episode of TOS.
Both Thelev and Sarek are so incredibly hot. Uh, and generally awesome as well.

@joe12544 Well Spock's blood is only half-copper, and they were able to, and I quote, "filter out the human factors."

      That was a logical action.

Spock’s dilemma was whether the Needs of the Many outweighed the Needs of the Few, or the One. I’m just glad that he made the appropriate decision.

The scene with spock and his mother, Lady Amanda, left an indelible mark on me.... This , for me , is the standard for all intense scenes on the " Star Trek" franchise movies ! Anything less is corny !

That episode I’m sure resonated with millions of dysfunctional American families ....father- son relationships in the 60’s were generally bad

The "false Andorian" was named Thelev. Well, not really. He either killed the real Thelev and took his place or found some way to weasel or buy his way into the staff of the Andorian delegate as a fake Andorian, which could have taken years. What his Orion name was we may never know, but he was either paying off some debt or ransoming some family member(s), as were the Orions on that ship.

As much as I enjoyed the clip ultimately it let me down, was very disappointing. Looking for the moment when Spock greets his father as he arrives on the Enterprise saluting him with the traditional Vulcan salute, the clip actually never gets to show it. Imagine. A video in homage to the Vulcan salute yet never shows it in practice. How shitty of a clip is that?

    • @jenpeterson3712

This clip was okay, though there were too many interruptions therefore less scenes
