I choked up a little when Satoshi said he still didn't have much relationship with his parents. That he stopped trying to talk to them about it because they were old and he didn't want to stress them. My heart broke for him.

I love these guys. I saw this video before I knew about Tabieats and just recently stumbled across their channel by chance. That was upsetting to hear Satoshi's situation. He's such a lovely person so it's difficult to understand how his own parents could not accept him. I hope he can accept all the love from those around him who accept him just the way he is. Stay strong always Satoshi!! 👍👍👍👍

I stumbled on this video and am so glad that I did. I went to work for a Japanese company in 1973 and met my Japanese partner in 1976. It was always difficult trying to avoid being paired off with Japanese girls by my Japanese bosses and it was always tricky renting a flat. We had lots of gainjin friends in Tokyo and the next 21 years in japan were probably the best years of my life.
We both came back to UK in 1997 and have settled back here very well and still see lots of out friends from Tokyo who have also returned to UK.
We’ve been together now for 43 years and have had a great and exciting life.

His family don't know what they are missing. I only know Satoshi and Shinichi through their videos, but I find them to be a very loving, caring and sharing couple. What does it matter if someone is gay, bi or straight? As long as you are with the love of your life and you are happy, that is all that should matter. It is better than being miserable and living a life that is a lie. I send Satoshi and Shinichi all my love and blessings for their relationship to grow even stronger. Don't ever change, guys 💕

Unfortunately Society still place many constraints upon us. Take that small step to listen and share wherever you are and in time I'm sure you will gain acceptance. Speaking as a hetro, I work and are friends with both gay/lesbians. They are probably some of the nicest people around.... To this couple who have been challenged by both family and society And they are still together I say, ... Well done! Be happy and prosper with your foodie channel/blog!

When I was living in Japan a few years ago, I got the feeling that Japanese people, in general, were ok with lgbtq people on tv, or even in their workplace or like in society.
But if it would be their own son/daughter or other family member then it would instantly get a lot more difficult to accept.
They're slowly getting more tolerant though.

Still a long way. Even in assault cases in Japan if one person is part of the LGBT the police isn't gonna take their side. So, I wouldn't stay in Japan if I was part of the LGBT for my safety even if my parents were ok with that which I doubt unless I could conceal it well from strangers.

not proud to admit, but i've read so much BL (boy's love) mangas that im starting to normalize malexmale in japan specifically. after watching this, i snapped out of it and now im aware that those stories i fangirl over so much are merely fiction.. and most of the time it's nothing like real life. LGBT is probably not all sparkly and flowery in a conservative country like i imagined. best of luck from a naive 17 yr old girl to those two!💗

such irony isn't it. because we know in those mangas (from Japan) would mostly tell the happy stories for gay couple when the fact some of them in that very country would get disowned by their parents for barely coming out

    • @luvmanifesto
      @luvmanifesto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +113

That's because everything "BL" is NOT actual representation. It was made mostly by women for women because some of them fetishize male-male relationships and need something to cater to their fantasy (not saying you're like that personally, I don't know you). The thing is, it's not even popular among gay men so that says a lot. There is some LGBTQ+ representation in Japanese media, but BL, GL and all that stuff is definitely not part of it.

I really get what Shinichi means about Japanese people talking about deep issues with friends and discussing things they don't like with a couple people, but then not really speaking up in public, as I've talked to all of my Japanese friends about such topics but they always do some gestures like "don't say this too loud" or "don't tell anyone". I know everyone in Japan isn't like that, but as long as most people in Japan still perceive having an opinion as something that shouldn't be shared openly, it'll be hard to change anything.

It only took a couple of tabieats videos to see the loving connection between you two. I love it when you share the cup noodles, passing them back and forth.

Such an interesting and informative (if at times depressing) interview. I love TabiEats. I can't imagine not coming out till after 30. I came out to my parents as both bi and trans in my teens, although it took them 12 years (until I was almost 30 myself) before they started showing any sign of acceptance of my gender identity. My heart goes out to Satoshi. Glad he's got someone like Shinichi.

Aww this video is so important and powerful, it shows the struggles of the LGBTQ community in Japan and how difficult is to live amongst people who discriminate against you and don't treat you as an equal human being, this gay couple is so brave and wonderful their love is stronger than any hate, i wish them all the best and happiness in the world, and to all the LGBTQ people who are still in the closet in Japan and can't come out yet, please don't be so hard on yourself it's okay to not come out if it threatens your safety, you can find people like you on the internet that you can trust and have conversations with i'm pretty sure that it will ease your struggle a little bit, just remember you are beautiful, you are valuable, you are worth it, you are important, don't let any negative or hate comment get to your head and put you down cause you are not alone in this world LGBTQ people are everywhere we all exist the same way as you so love yourself cause you were born this way baby 💖💙💚💜💛❤

Honest, charming couple. Sending my well wishes to you both. Thanks for sharing your story! I lived in Japan 15 years ago; curious to go back and see how the gay scene has evolved.

Satoshi you are a beautiful person don't give up on life. Continue to live free and happy. No matter how much it hurts to get your parents approval. You will just have to move on and continue to be kind to others and continue to love your partner. You are loved by so many and you will be fine. Thanks for your courage.
