  • I keep heading west and face the biggest storm of the trip. I struggle with judgement on the weather conditions, mess it up, try again, and have an anxious but beautiful day on the water. Thunder, lightning, rain, wind, it had it all.
Government Island, Les Cheneaux Islands to St. Ignace.

I love those islands. I've sailed through twice and had the exact same weather both times. I was working remotely at the time and just tucked into a beautiful anchorage for 4 days. It's a great memory and this brings it all back. It felt so safe while the storms marched through one after the other.

I try to get up there to paddle a few times a year. It is a bit of a forgotten coast and I love it. So happy to have been able to spend so much time on the water here over the years.

A good friend of mine and I are looking for a summer kayaking trip at the end of May we're coming out of Ohio what do you suggest?

The Les Cheneaux area in the eastern Upper Peninsula where part of this episode was filmed would be a great area to start with. Nice protected waters but easy access to open water, islands and channels, nice camping options. And also Drummond Island is a short drive further east. Lots of options in the area. Or for you coming out of Ohio the southern Georgian Bay might be a fun option. Lots of islands to explore in all areas.

I have a bottle at home. Works great when I actually remember to apply it 😜
