    In Puerto Rico, the city of Ponce is basically named after the first governor of the island, Juan Ponce de León, so that's why the mascot of the team is León.

    Favorite team names in any sport are for local Australian football teams in other countries. That's when you get names like the Leipizig Quokkas or the Fort Lauderdale Fighting Squids.

      @@NapTownKid410 Mine's the New York Magpies, which makes slightly less sense (not a ton of magpies in NYC) but whatever. My favorite team in Australia is the GWS Giants but obviously the name "New York Giants" has been taken for a while now...

    There are so many collegiate summer teams with fantastic names. I'm partial to the Walla Walla Sweets, but they play in the same league as the infamous Portland Pickles

    The only reason I picked the Dinos for my KBO team during COVID was because of the name, good to see it recognized. I went to college in Roswell so I also appreciate hearing about the Invaders as well. No love for the Aquasox? Lol
    I think in the Alaska Baseball League there are a few that are fun. I'm biased to the Anchorage Glacier Pilots but teams like the Chugach Chinooks, Mat-Su Valley Miners, and the Kenai Peninsula Oilers all have fun names too. The team in Fairbanks is the "Goldpanners" which is unique but they haven't been part of the ABL for a few years.

    I’d say the most interesting baseball team names in Taiwan were the TML teams. There used to be a league named Taiwan Major League that had 4 teams, each with a pretty unique name in aboriginal language and another common name in Chinese.
Taipei Sun)
Taichung King Kong or Taichung Robots)
Chia-Nan Warriors)
Kao-Ping Thunder God)
    I thought naming a team the Thunder God sounds pretty fun.

    Canberra Cavalry is a good one but we don't really have cavalry in Australia..we are more known for our Divisions of Light Horsemen as made famous in the World Wars and the Boer War. The early (ABL1.0) Canberra team was the Bushrangers, a relocated Melbourne team. Bushrangers are synonomous with Australian history as with US outlaws.
    The "Bushies" originally played on the then Bruce (football) Stadium, now home of the Canberra Raiders NRL and ACT Brumbies ARU.
    Two other good Aussie names are multi ABL Champions Perth Heat (if you've been to Perth you'll understand). The Heat naming is also used now by the Brisbane Heat in Aussie BBL (cricket) tournament where the Perth team is appropriately called the Scorchers.
    The one I really liked was the Adelaide Bite (now back to Giants). Bite is symbolic given the coastal region in that part of Australia has a brilliant geographical feature called the Great Australian Bight...so it's a good play in words.

      Bushrangers is a great name. Canberra should’ve stuck with that. BTW I have been to Perth but not this time of year. End of April and the weather was fantastic

    The name of the Queretaro Conspirators of the LMB comes from the beginning of the Mexican war of independence that began to be organized secretly in Queretaro by politicians, soldiers and priests and that movement is known as the Queretaro conspiracy.
    The silhouette of the man with a bandana in the team logo is reminiscent of a hero of Mexican independence.

      It has been quite controversial TBH, oddly enough the other LMB expansion team this year has also historial context in his name. Dorados de Chihuahua named after the Dorados de Villa batallion from the Mexican Revolution in the early 1900s

    No mention of the Hartford Yard Goats? The Yard Goats is a reference to a small locomotive used to get the train together. Since Dunkin Donuts Park is built near the railyard, it is a great name. The Mascots are Goats eating baseball bats and they are named Chew Chew (for the sound of a locomotive) and Chompers.

    Chillicothe Paints (Ohio) is an interesting name, sorry I cannot remember which league they are in right now. I know you weren’t considering teams that no longer existed, but in the early days of the Frontier League I remembered two teams with interesting names, Zanesville Greys, I not sure of this, but I think they named themselves after the western novel writer Zane Grey, ironically I think he was named after the town, but like I said I am nor sure of that. And then there was Wayne County Coal Sox, in West Virginia.

    Originally, The Yokohama Baystars were supposed to be the Yokohama Bay Stars, but apparently the concept of placing Bay after the city name was unfamiliar with the Japanese.
