Just to inform you about fake PS3 controllers on ebay, DO NOT BUY THEM!
Differences I forgot to mention:
Some controllers have huge gap on the control stick's bottom
Bluetooth does not work on PC at all
Some controller's have extra screw behind the label (6th screw)
The joysticks are the biggest flaw on these fake controller. No sixaxis, cheaper plastic etc I can live with that, but the crappy joysticks makes them useless for good gaming.

-a used one that will usually be pretty beat (especially the analogue grip)
-Buy a new authentic one still floating around which will set you back at least £70/$90

Is the dark box top still a good sign of a genuine one or has that been counterfeited now too? Last I knew the fakes had light blue box tops.
That doesn't work either, I bought 2 used, which were all fakes in sealed original packaging. Nothing on ebay indicated a commercial seller.
And one thing to say. The Sixaxis feature in the fake Controller don't work correctly. I tried play Heavy Rain with a a fake controller (at that time i don't know that was a fake, but now i'm very sure), and the sixaxis features don't work. And some PS2 games don't work with that controller.

VERY GOOD comparison mate. The point about the buttons being glossy is spot on! I could always sort of understand which is fake and which controller is real but didn't know what exactly it was that my brain pin pointed, and now I know it's the overall quality/glossiness of the original which separates it from the fake. Good vid!
the buttons was the tie breaker even with PS1 controllers and in your hand you could feel the difference.
The most important thing is how the sticks work. In the original gamepads, you can aim very accurately. There are problems with stick management in fakes, especially in shooters
Ok.. Now i see, today i bought fake ps3 controller 😭, but it works fine.
for me the identifier that tipped me off when a controller was fake was the weight. My wife could never see a difference between a real and a fake by feel, but after having grown up using only genuine PS3 controller's, its just instinct for me. Even when they're "well made" there's always something just...off about them, they just don't feel the same

If you wanna know that your Dualshock 3 is original, try to shake it in the main menu if the particles move it's original, but if it doesn't it is fake.

Didn't you notice the word "SELECT" is a more to the right of it's button?. It is easy to see. It is one of the most easies ways to spot a fake.

I was playing last of us using the same controller I bought on eBay I was playing suddenly the game show me to shake my controller so the flash light in the game should stay normal but it didn’t
Now I know why it’s fake and the controller it turns itself off after 1 mins

The buttons on the original one are usually matte too. They get glossy because the the surface of the button gets rubbed away with use. Same as with a old plastic Keyboard or trackpad
The fake ps3 controllers don't work with 8bitdo for ps1 classic and also don't work with the brook converter for ps2 game play. That's how you can tell. The sixaxis also doesn't work.

I wish I had seen this video before I had bought it, but the title says that it’s a genuine oem one and the photos showed that it’s in good condition.
I paid $22.21 for it and it’s usps, it comes on thursday.
I bought a white PS3 controller at gamestop back in 2012 from gamestop, and all this time I thought it was official, and I have never had a problem with it... But I’m really OCD and a collector and I want to make sure that mine isn’t a fake like that, but it has none of these issues? The only thing I find suspicious is the raised lights at the top, and the plastic on the back for the barcode and such is peeling from age. I heard there are no white ps3 controllers that are real and sold separately in official packaging. Is this true, meaning mine’s been a dirty fake?

I believe non of the orginal Dualshocks 3 ever had that funny bar saying: Complies with IDA standards. Oryginal ones wont be charged by generic phone chargers. You might be able to charge them with your console or directly from USB port in your PC. Also, when plugged to PC those fakes wont be recognized by Sony Dualshock 3 controller but more likely as PS3 pad, PS3 controller
There are fake PS3 controllers with the 224 barcode it's the one with the P3 button instead of the normal Playstation button we're used to seeing.

I bought an Ebay controller believing it was official Sony.. it works okay but ive noticed weird things about it. If i hook it up to my PC and test the button functions, pressing the PS button actually also SOMEHOW activates the left analogue sticks a tiny amount?!
So strange definitely going to look for a new one.

I would say do not buy "fake" PS3 controllers from eBay. There are plenty of reputable and honest sellers on eBay selling legit stuff, you just sometimes have to do a little checking before you buy.
Sorry to hear that. If you've found that the issue is definitely due to the controller and not something else then it's likely a knockoff or non-Sony brand controller that you received. If you do buy another one on eBay or online somewhere I would just suggest buying one from a reputable seller, and just to be sure check with them first to make sure you will be receiving an authentic controller. The sellers who send out fake merchandise online can give the online marketplace a bad name and ruin things for the legit sellers.

You can buy real controllers from ebay, I've done it myself. However, you really have to do your research, buying from Japan is also preferable, and you always have to look for "authentic" ones, because the people who dare to claim their stuff is authentic are usually not lying about it, because they could get in trouble otherwise. Also, a deal that seems too good to be true is always, WITHOUT A DOUBT too good to be true.
Its fucking hard to get a working genuine ps3 controller. Found a guy online selling original dualshock 3 controllers and the pictures looked ok. I did receive an original ps3 controller but it was only six axis not dualshock 3. Also the analogs were spinning in place so i has to put some glue under the rubber. Still the analogs seem worn out as they move around too fast. Going to buy a dual shock 3 tomorrow this time from a local seller so i can inspect it myself
When you pay $26 to $36 for a NEW PS3 controller you get a NEW FAKE PS3 controller or you buy USED PS3 controller with having a 50/50 chance the PS3 controller is a USED FAKE or USED REAL PS3 controller. To get NEW REAL PS3 controller you gonna have to pay $65 to $85 & there are places where there are REAL NEW PS3 controllers you can buy but you gonna have to pay that big money for them.

I have the very same problem.... Most of the ps3 controllers are out of stock or either fake....tbh i dont want to use a third partg controller. Maybe the only way i could buy an original ps3 controller is to buy ps3 games that comes with ps3 controller.. Like a special edition games... God of war collections comes with a red themed ps3 controller... Too bad though it cost $60 which is really expensive for a ps3 controller

You can play heavy rain on PC and ps4 as well. Rpcs3 is an option too.

The original ones should have “UL listed” sign on the sticker at the back. Easy right? Not sure if the sticker is hologram sticker or you can call it foil sticker?
Hm mine might be fake too. But if it is then its actually a pretty good one. All buttons work perfect and the sensitivities work too, even with the X, circle, triangle and square button. You can check that with different tools. The deadzone is only 10% for me and it does have more than 8 angles in the sticks, the 360 angle works. Bluetooth works with ps3 but it wont work with PC dongle. Well, its really not that bad to be honest, but maybe I got lucky. Bought if from ebay. Im pretty sure its fake for me too but it works really well. The stick are a bit stiff also :o paid 20euros for it. The sticker is similar but its -C2U ending. Well whatever, besides the stiffness I cant really tell the difference to be honest.
Does the DS4 act as a decent replacement? I know the home button DOES NOT work when you use the DS4 tho

Just got two of these fake controllers and the joysticks are the dealbreaker. So hard to aim. I like the used game store by my house but for them to sell these fakes and tell people they are factory refurbished is bullshit

Since u r not using an original ps controller the game will know it as another controller and all the button will chnaged by number ex: press "button 14(which is O) to enter"

do not buy fake controllers from ebay... (dude bought a stock of 5 controllers) just for joke! i bought 3 controllers and i knew its fake obviously! gave 1 to my nephew and built him a nice pc for gaming and tbh i kinda liked it. mine has 6 axis angles and do the work for 2d gaming

Got mine, im sure its fake (judging from the price of $8) although, all buttons are analog except for the usual start, select, L3, R3 and PS button. tho the PS button is stuck/jammed. Sixaxis is fucked to hell, it constantly moves to the right. Haven't tried bluetooth yet, I don't have a dongle to sacrifice so im using it wired. Oh and big deadzones on the joysticks, bad for FPS.
Been enjoying it actually, will pry it open later.

I bought this yesterday instead of the regular well reviewed third party ones as i used one of the original PS3 controller and the vibration and layout was amazing. I thought it would be good but bouy i was disappointed the monent i took it out kf the box. I should have understood already its a fake when it was priced less but the fact it had sony box i took the chance. It was cheap but i feel over whelemed to have two controllers for one guy when i could invest money somewhere else.
You also forgot to nentioj the bloody triggers which i mainly rely for racing games only activate at the end during 80% depressed and is super super sensitive and makes the experience mkre like a button than a trigger. And the left right motion is also pretty much only 50% travel after that it doesnt take input and already will be maxed out.
I bought a fake 1 and i have the analog stick problem but other than that its fine.
