The best way to check if it's fake is by taking it apart and seeing if the main IC is covered by epoxy. If it is covered by epoxy, it's fake. Also, make sure it has the plastic board caddy; if not, it's fake. Just because it shows up as a PlayStation 3 controller doesn't mean it's real; there are plenty of reports of fakes showing up as PlayStation 3 controllers when connected to a computer.
I have a fake that shows up as "Playstation 3 Controller" when plugged into my laptop but when I connect the same controller to my PS3, the system takes forever to respond to the movement of my analog sticks. Also, the texture of the controller just feels fake as hell. The sticker on the back of the controller looks phony. Plus the controller feels really light in the hand. Real controllers are noticeably slightly heavier than the fake ones.

Hey is that last test 100% sure? Or are there fakes outside that might be so good faked that it can named Ps3 Controller aswell? I always thought that package of your gold are 100% fake ones
Nah, I have 3 fake ones, 2 of them say PS3 controller and the other one says Xbox 360 controller The best way in my opinion is just playing a game The sticks on the fake ones are absolute trash, 0 sensibility they pretty much go from 0 to 100% and have 0 precision going diagonal The rest of the buttons are super stiff and if you press them softly they might not register your inputs (I also have 2 original ones, a Dualshock 3 and a Sixaxis, both feel pretty similar, just the Sixaxis is lighter bc it doesn't have vibration, sadly they stopped working not too long ago)
Mines not showing up so i searched in Bluetooth settings for other devices and it shows up that my brand-new controller is legit meanwhile my other controller only says ps3 controller..
$50 for a Fake is too Much. In South East Asia its around $8 including Shipping. Also The Fakes Dont have six axis so Good Luck On games that Require them although i dont know any 😂😂
They also don’t have pressure sensitive buttons, which can either change the way a game plays or, like in Gran Turismo 6, won’t even work at all. I had to buy an OEM controller because the x o[] ^ buttons didn’t do anything
Yes is usable , but has some issues the battery sucks and after 2 months I got stickdrift , if want a cheap one or buy a used one or a third party new one
These days if you want a real sony-made DualShock 3 controller, your best option is to find and buy a used one, make sure the buttons and analog sticks work, disassemble it and fix whatever might not be working, and clean off all the plastic pieces. That's what I did with my used DS3 controller and it works like a charm. When I disassembled my controller to clean off the plastic pieces, i did so with an old toothbrush and a small bucket of water, and dishwashing soap. In the end, just pat the plastic gently with a dry rag and let the controller dry off for 1 hour before putting everything back together again.
I suppose your idea is a good approach for many gamers who find themselves in the circumstantial problem of finding a real DS3 controller to use on their PS3. However, individuals, like me, who value the appropriateness of using the correct original accessories with the correct consoles they originally belonged to all for the purpose of the nostalgic experience (which is: both physically holding the controller for use on the correct console and visually looking at the game), using a DS4 controller on a PS3 is literally just taking shortcuts to solve what the problem really is which is finding a functional and "REAL" DS3 controller. If I didn't care about nostalgia in gaming, I probably would agree with your advice. @@BobBobOnTH-cam
@@BobBobOnTH-cam it is usable but the ps3 doesn't recognize it as an official ps3 controller so it some features are not available like safe mode for modding and being able to use the ps home button for exiting a game and what not. Same for ps5 controllers.

Are you sure that you didn’t perhaps buy an early Sixaxis controller? They feel very flimsy
I new this was real because the top of the box is black

Damn I got a fake one mine says game pad

i have a question what did you use to tell if its a fake
Another way you can tell is if you have a backwards compatible ps3, the controller will disconnect when playing ps2 games

Aren't PS4 controllers compatible with PS3? Might be a better option just to use a PS4 controller.
