My mate had a series one rs turbo, bored to 1900cc, a massive turbo and few grand on other engine upgrades ( this was the late nineties) with a 4 speed 1.1 gear box.........it lasted 4 days 🤣👌🏼
They were’t 200BHP as standard. My chipped Red Series 2 was pushing that and killed the gearbox back in 1998. Very expensive repair. This car is similar all bar the wheels as I put 17” Azev A alloys on.

I used to have a 1989 on a G reg white. What a motor…. It’s a shame people back in the day used to change the alloys . In my opinion , the dog leg alloys looked better!
The OG's were much better than what are on this, the Turbo's had the double dog legs, single dog legs on the XR3i's. The Gen 1 RS wheels were best though. But I did love the TSW Venom's, still see so many wheels inspired by their design on so many cars, including supercars.
I agree my brother had 3 of these and the stock alloys on them way nicer than these ones shame they were removed devalues car too...in fact the rs turbo stock alloys were one of best features on the car

I had quite a few Escorts XRs mk3/4 and Fiestas R/S They were cheap hot hatches and good fun. GTIs it could keep with but the mk2 Astra gte it couldn’t always handle. I blew 2 up racing one back in the late 90s. If only I had kept a couple 😢. Good times

I didn't have the pockets for an RS back in the 90's but I did own a very nice XR3i for almost 2 years until my daughter was born then had 2 sell it what with it being 2 door, mine was an F plate 89 from memory and it's probably the only car I still think about, sure the world wasn't perfect back in those days BUT it was a lot simpler. first thing i done wen ever veiwing a rs is pop up the back seat , norm fkd with rust , i had a 90spec lambo spider green 17 coats of paint , and cadburys perple vents and alloys .. tuned and built by inter-Pro , running 245 bhp in 2001 .. Animal

Brilliant video Stu I travelled many a mile in my mates RS Turbo. It was a F reg car in black and it went like stink.I owned a xr3i myself as couldn’t stretch to get the RS at the time. My xr3i was a E reg in mercury grey and just wish I still owned it now.

I see it's had the bumper trim removed and smoothed front and back. A common mod back in the day along with the smoked rear lenses and the bailey dump valve. Looks like a good'un!
If it's blowing the rocket cover cap off (Tape around the cap outlet), it's either got a blocked crank case breather or the engine needs a rebuild due to blow by the pistons, it then causes too much crankcase pressure hence it blows the cap off, I know cause I owned lots of fords from that era when I was younger, the best one I owned was an black XR2 E405 BTV, looks like a nice clean car, take care 🙂.....

Theres an allan key screw below the vent,you turn it to adjust the fueling on metering unit they rust due to the water getting jn vent and seize- hence the plate on the vent

Over the years it ended up with a custom chip, custom intercooler, stage 2 head, 5th injector, water injection, cam, paddle clutch… and many many gearboxes.! Happy days…. After the Escort, yep got a Saph Cossie, it was quick but not as much fun, I ended up buying the Escort back 🤦♂️ Pace make great gear, in fact when I got my S1 Focus RS they used my car for the development work for the existing charge cooler system fitted to the car….

I had a black S2 E reg ,I also have others sat and a white 90 spec Rs in my garage sat since 2011 owned over 20+yrs looks standard on the outside other than smoke rear lights and clear indicators, mine has a chipped ecu scorpion 4" GRS header and intercooler custom inlet with mfi and 5th injector plus momo race wheel, interior/ seats doesn't have any sags ripples or rips, failed mot in 2011 on front brake pads and a little welding needed but nothing major, I also put brand new spax adjustable shocks and springs on 25mm drop and new tyres before putting it away 👍

At 19 I was paying £500 for insuring a mark 3 XR3i in '96, £1500 seems a bit steep for the turbo that didn't have massive extra power, about 30bhp more if I remember correctly!

The chrome guard under the bonnet vent is to stop water dropping onto the K&N air filter. Pace intercoolers were very high quality.

The tape with the oil filler cap is common, they needed to be air tight, if not they would run but not idle 👍

I had a black S2 E reg ,I also have others sat and a white 90 spec Rs in my garage sat since 2011 owned over 20+yrs looks standard on the outside other than smoke rear lights and clear indicators, mine has a chipped ecu scorpion 4" GRS header and intercooler custom inlet with mfi and 5th injector plus momo race wheel, interior/ seats doesn't have any sags ripples or rips, failed mot in 2011 on front brake pads and a little welding needed but nothing major,
I also put brand new spax adjustable shocks and springs on 25mm drop and new tyres before putting it away 👍

@@martinparker9249 sorry bud wish I could help you on that 1 but I'm a ford guy through and through, I have 2 older fiesta's aswell and another 79 limited 1 million addition mk1 fiesta moving into to my workshop that has been sat in dry storage since 87 all keepers on my side, I run a classic resto garage myself so have a lot of cars in for customers you just dont see these days.. in between customer cars I restore my stuff bit by bit 👍
On a D reg it’s a early s2 r/s turbo as I had a s1 on a d plate and it changed to mk4 shell in late 86/87
Wow I know this car it was owned by a mate from the 90s til mid 00s
Spent many an evening around Birmingham in it . Think it was damaged in the early 90s as my friend put it back on the road

This takes me back, my first escort was a red series 2 identical to this. Anybody notice the rear bumper isn’t original? Looks like some fibreglass bodykit from the nineties
It's original but the trim has been removed and smoothed. Front one too if you look closely.
I’ve owned 3 classic rs turbos in my early 20s I was paying £1500 a year insurance. Imagine the prices of a young person insuring one today 😮

At 19 I was paying £500 for insuring a mark 3 XR3i in '96, £1500 seems a bit steep for the turbo that didn't have massive extra power, about 30bhp more if I remember correctly!
@@HalfdeadRider I’m sure it had more to do with the utter twatbag thieves that used to be able to enter and start them with a spoon. Vauxhall’s were easier still🤦🏻♂️
