It seems these lot don’t know much about this model but go on like as if they have pure nostalgia for it. What gives it away is the constant “it’s all pretty much standard - not much has been modified “. Really? So it just happened to roll of the production line with a 2.0 litre lump then did it? Apparently they were all in white as well - didn’t know anything about that … jeez, Louise !
It means you can totally disregard any remarks about the engine and overall performance given that those aspects are non RS Turbo features. 🙄

I owned one circa 1996/1998. Paid £900 for it , tuned to 185bhp and sold it for just over £2k. If only I’d kept it. Reg was B911UVH. It even had a full respray which cost £500. Those were the days b

bought when i was a kid and never sold it ..restored and did concours in the 90’s when parts were still available ..tommi field low comp 1.6 cvh engine with all the bells and whistles ..standard they r pretty slow compared to todays average car … problem in todays climate u can’t leave them in a public car park with out some knob avin a go to take it …6yrs and counting on mine on axle stands in a carcoon …🙄🤷🏻♂️

I watched this video when it first came out and became a fan of the Escort Turbo. 11 months later I find a clean 1985 black Escort Turbo R/C car made by Nikko. It also has hidden Police lights. It has the original remote and it all works! $4.10 at the local Goodwill. Then I find out that Lady Diana drove a black Escort. Fantastic

Couldn't afford the real thing, so I stuck some grilles in the bonnet and then an electric dump valve, 😂 it would make the sound through a speaker under the bonnet when you released your foot off the accelerator 😂 I honestly did think I was the bollocks. ( look back now, what a ....PRICK ) 😂😂

Fair play boys that was brilliant. I always wanted an RS Turbo but never did get one. I had a Lancia Delta HF Turbo instead, you know, the 1.6 Turbo right hand drive that was a rival to the RS Turbo at the time. It was a good car all except for the gearbox! I got through 3 gearboxe's in the time I had it on the road, and on the 4th I found a company in Weston-super-Mare that specialised in Italian cars and they fitted at great expense a reinforced gearbox. I never had any trouble with it after that, in fact it was a really good car and a lot faster than the RS Turbo!!!! Oh and I still have the Lancia, it hasn't seen tarmac in 17 years!!!

A guy brought a full black 1.6 rs turbo series 2 into the garage just for a couple of small fixes sat inside it and it was just incredible how retro it is and with only 132 hp it still moved 😂 great vid lads amzing to see this

I have a Renault 5 raider and series one in for restoration both stripped in my garages now on hold both and standard cars to in every way right the way down to the exhaust i have run out of money hoping to go back to them to finish them off one day 😱

Series1 turbo should havea 1.6 cvh not a 2.0 so an engine swap must detract from its value over stock.

Back in the day these were not reviewed well in the press, amongst the competition was the Astra 2.0 16V, which had 150 brake standard and handled better, much better. Thing is now, anything fast ford with a turbo is so collectable. Personally I'd rather have a Lotus Cortina.

There was a short lived TV series which ran in the mid '80s called C.A.T.S eyes.
The female lead characters both drove Series 1 RSTs. C220 HVW (white) & C221 HVW (blue). I dunno if the registrations were genuine (there was also a Sierra 5 door, reg C222 HVW) or if the blue Series 1 was painted by the factory or done by the TV company to distinguish the two cars, but it was definitely blue. There are photos of it online.

Since the zetec (duratec st170) all the power came from the st170 head,a normal 2 litre zetec 130/140bhp,this still on mfi so around the 190/200bhp?

While building it could of have one as mint as this one for 35000 gutted i didnt buy it at the time
Hasn't got the original side stripes. Had an rs1600i and one of these back in the day. RS1600i was fully built and the series one made 225hp, went like the clapoers
I had one back in the day - C193 ORG - reg maybe a bit off , can't remember exactly- bought a 4x4 saph cos, and sold the rst for 500 quid just to get rid of it - dear me
These were regarded as classics 25 years ago so much more sought after than the mk2 god knows what a minted is now 😂

I used to know the guy owned C100 TAB. Had the underside sprayed polar white too and had it wrapped in bubble wrap to be trailered to the RS meets at Castle Donington. Was all original, no mods, low mileage wonder what that's worth now ?

Used to build 1.8zvh bt with efi from the fiesta rs turbo,this desperate for a efi conversion and pace intercooler.
Had 2 mk2 rs turbos and 2 astra gte 16v's in the 90s loved both of them pure hot hatches.......
Not had the best of weeks but these videos can make things a bit better.

Great video lads, proper old school hot hatch. I got offered a series 2 in the gun metal grey for £500 in 1999 and i turned it down cuz of a leaky head gasket, regret it big time now 😂

Wonderful video, thank you both! I think the opening rear windows was the other extra in the ‘custom’ package. Also the grey series 2’s were Mercury grey if memory serves and lastly exhaust could be a Mongoose? ❤

All series 1's came with opening rear windows. The custom options were sunroof, central locking and electric windows.... and there was a stereo upgrade to the ecu1 stereo with electric aerial instead of the standard SRT32P stereo.
These do sound good, but the chump valve has to go!

White dials are not standard. Exhaust looks like a magnex to me, not scorpion 😊 to get near 200bhp on 1.6 block you had to spend a few quid.

@@andybrooks7908 seem to remember seeing with? What do defiantly remember is that is the tail pipe is 3” it’s doubtful it’s a scorpion. Even though supplied 3” tailpipe everyone seemed to choose 4” and the pitch of the exhaust in the video didn’t sound like a scorpion to me. Pretty confident it’s magnex
