      In France the word "racist" is an insult ,like in the others contry I think , but here it have a very important conotation and if you say something about minorities or differents people you can be categorize as "racist" ,and because of that ,this type of laws pop on our constitution.
      For exemple the peoples who are radicalized cannot be send back in their contry ,because "oh you are very bad ,you say something about foreigners ,you are racist". (I'm sorry for my English )

      Doing stats on ethnicity is admitting it exists and make categorization of the population. Categorizing it, it is already segregation, and segregation leads to discrimination.

      Its very biased report. In the UK since the 1990s racial data has been collected for pretty much everything. Not so the non-whites can be rooted out and put in concentration camps, but to be used to look for supposed racial discrimination and under-representation.
      In fact it is non-white empowerment groups asking the French govt to collect racial stats, for the same reason.

      I dont think you are paying attention. What France is doing is by removing the word ipso facto removing the fact that racism is being perpetuated by the state itself by it refusing the fact that races existis. Because while you can't collect statistics based on ethnicity or religion, the state's statistical agency can collect information based on nationality or the nationality of parents and grandparents.
      Also, the ban on ethnic statistics only concerns public agencies, there are privately funded studies.

    I'm an American citizen with Indian origin but this makes me sad for France. America is a country founded by immigrants and colonizers and hence why it is so difficult to define what "American culture" exactly is. However, France is a country with centuries of tradition, history, art, and culture and they have every right to fight for their nationality. Tourists are drawn to France because of the FRENCH culture, not because of multiculturalism. If they want that, they can just visit the US.

    It's so interesting because as someone who lives in Quebec, ethnicity is not taboo nor is it racist or a microagression and it's understood that people who identify as Quebecois are ethnically French. Quebecois and being French are interchangeable, and either or is acceptable as an ethnicity label in Quebec because it's ultimately understood you're ethnically French. People even make a point if they're not "pure laine" i.e descendant purely of French ethnic stock by saying my grandfather was an irishman or whatnot in Quebec. For example I'm French, because I'm ethnically French, and for some reason the French from France don't seem to understand that. They see French identity as belonging to everyone, which I can agree with on a cutural level but not an ethnic level as ethnicity is routed in historical commonality, thousands of years of ethnic blending which created a French whiteness and culture that fostered French spelt last names and a certain level of ethnic homogeneity. Anyway.

How is that that we refer to so many people as Jewish, when they nave never observed any religious ceremony or ritual, nor have their parents, nor do they observe any traditions that could be linked to Judaism. And yet they can bring up being Jewish and nobody even thinks to question that. Why is being Jewish this special property that is inherited, but being French or German or English not?

    Using it would be to make scientific parallels between different ethnic groups and animal breeds, which is absurd.
    The word "race" in English came from French, but now it lost the meaning that French uses in most cases.

    A society where people cling to separate community identities over a national identity can never be a strong society. However, the sad truth is that a certain religious group will always put it's own group and political identity over their nationality irrespective of which country they are living in.
      Quand je reviens en France voir ma famille et mes amis, j'ai la réelle sensation d'arriver dans un pays du Tiers Monde, tout particulièrement quand je passe par Paris...
      Et non, ma grande, la France ne s'est jamais composée d'une telle disparité raciale et culturelle. Qu'on arrête ce mythe effroyable d'un multiculturalisme de tout temps et fonctionnel.

    Classifying people on race, ethnicity, or religion can only lead to division among the population. About the only thing I have heard in French policy that I completely agree with.

    • @konnj
      @konnj 7 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Classifying people based on ethnicity is what creates Nations.
      Without a ethnicity to tie the identity of the nation to it becomes a meaningless term and the state becomes a tyrannical machine of oppression, no more than a economic zone.
      It's semi-smart of the elite rulers to run with radical individualism and deny the people their ethnicity because people become much easier to control, and easier to steal from, in the short run as they will be able to impose any will they might have, but in the long run it will lead to their destruction, treachery always does.
      History is a invaluable teacher.

      Bjørn Erik Aunan Incorrect. A nation can exist based on common principles. That is actually the most important feature of a nation, cultural cohesion. Cultural cohesion can exist between people of unique genetic heritages. This is probably how you got here anyway. Your ancestors were not one people for all of eternity.

    • @MrJovon321
      @MrJovon321 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Roger Acton People can choose how much importance they place on phenotypic differences. Likewise, you probably consider Greeks and Swedes generally "white" and you're okay. Anyone with eyes can see the differences between these peoples maybe eight times out of ten. They are also historically distinct groups genetically, linguistically, philosophically, and so on.

    • @quidagis33
      @quidagis33 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes classifying leads to division so let's leave it up to the population to deal with prejudicial and discriminatory practices...What????
      Colorblindness does not work. Ignorance and ethnocentrism are never dealt with that way.
      Classifying using statistics only becomes meaningful when used positively. But I guess that's subjective too...

      the country has always been an amalgamation of different peoples always speaking tens of different languages. if anything, the current french culture, once a product of one small central region, is a direct threat to other cultures having already assimilated all the minorities in france and currently ravaging in africa, destroying ethnicities village by village, from generation to generation
