- Check out this beautifully animated CGI short film about a lonely robot who sells ice cream. In order to survive in a severe reality he recreates an imaginary world where he lives every day, like he did during the best time of his life.

For anyone who doesn't understand, I guess it's this type of "friend bot" named Bibo who had been left in his town for some reason (maybe nuclear bombing or the town just died out?) and I think he created bots that look like old children to recreate the best time of his life, when the town flourished and kids would come up to him and eat ice cream. Obviously the town has now been deserted/almost destroyed for some reason now and that is all he has left.

That sounds to be the story. Oh, and his makers died before he got left there.
The time it rakes to make just 7 mins of an animated film, the detail, the theme, the art, and emotion is very heavy in this short. I love this and it truly shows how creative an artist can be when developing the characters and other additions to the story. :)
The ending is so sad, he had a happy life and tries to continue on as if nothing is wrong in a decimated world, the story is awesome but it's just sad.

He did try to recreate the little girl from the photo, but I guess he couldn't make it work. It was a sad ending for me. Poor bibo.

kimeradon That was beautiful. In my opinion your poem was far superior to OP's. His/her's had words that don't exist and sentences that don't even make grammatical sense.
I really love how actions convey information more than words. It's something like Wall-E. A few friends of mine didn't quite like Wall-E, because there wasn't much conversation in it, and all it had were robot beeping sounds and simple monotonic syllables. But Wall-E is one of my absolute favourites. Yea he doesn't speak much, but look at his eyes, the dreamy gaze when he stares at Eve; or his silly actions when he panics. There are times when narrations seem meaningless. Stephen Spielberg's "A.I." also featured the same, in which the boy shed tears at the end.
Questions:
1) Is he ALL that's left? I mean, are there still people, or even other robots, out there, somewhere?
2) Is he trying to rebuild in any way? I mean, does he do more than just keep his own engine running?
3) Why does he stay there? Why doesn't he look for survivors, or other machines like himself?
4) WHO THE HELL IS CUTTING ONIONS?!?!?!
That robot was propably made only for giving icecream to the kids. Thats why it kept doing it even after the end of the world.

Greg Walker I was under the impression that he was a light-load utility robot and could learn anything besides hard labor and highly skilled labor.
The way I see it is even sometimes something as anamatronic or emotionless as a robot, when there's nothing left Bibo takes things into it's (his?) own hands to fulfill what he was created for: to be a "best friend" as the poster said at the beginning Thus, continuing to be the "best friend" to the community he was created into, to make sense of Bibo's existence, that's what the little girl was for probably cause she was a regular and when the girl didn't show up anymore, Bibo built a replacement as a contingency plan for his purpous. In a more scientific fact, the short is like our brains when we can't make sense of anything, so we create explinations as a contingency plan for our thought process. On an emotional since, think about being happy and all the sudden it gets taken away from you, or you slowly watch the world fade away, Bibo was so driven to make others happy, he recreated scenes of his time of fulfilling his purpouse and reason of creation...I'm also really tired so maybe this is nonsense -w-

If you take the time, and have a big enough monitor, you can pause the video at 0:30 and read the framed newspaper, setting quality to 1080pHD. The one in the bottom right corner is telling. Something about "The Federation" attacking despite up-to-now friendly relations. There's a lot of prequel on that wall.

I love the attention to detail. When he's working in his workshop, there's what appears to be a Winshurst machine on the left side of the room.
+E.PLUMBUS UNUM Is the machine on the right hand wall supposed to be a lathe, it's kinda what it looks like except that the bull gear is huge and there isn't a chuck or spindle to be seen. Such a cool mix of new and old...
The end brought tears to my eyes. I feel so sorry for Bibo... It's probably really hard to live like that, nobody around...

A few years ago I stumbled upon this when I was only 10, and the whole concept was a lot to handle. I literally sat down for almost an hour thinking about this, because it was such a...depressing thing for me to handle at that young of an age.
I guess this is what it feels like when everything you love are gone leaving only yourself behind.

молодцы ребят! радует, что наши способны такую качественную картинку выдавать. Небольшое замечание по композиции ролика: все в одном темпе происходит (причем довольно медленном) - очень сложно интерес удержать. В след. раз попробуйте все таки разнообразить темп). P.S. небольшая придирка: в газетах вы подаете информацию, что глав. герой "больше, чем робот".. в тоже время суть ролика сводится к тому, что он ведет себя именно как обычная запрограмированная жестянка, которая не может понять, что мир изменился.

I think understand the plot of this. I can't describe it but it's very sad and sweet at the same time, just as most little short films are. This robot, Bibo, makes fake ice cream for the one little girl who, as real as she seems, is just another robot built by Bibo. Every time she breaks down, he has to fix her. There's no one there but the two, in their little abandoned town, lost in the middle of the desert with broken buildings and half of a train. The only reason why Bibo keeps going is to give the girl ice cream every day at that one specific time. She is his only little companion along with the side-robot that helps him fix her. Nothing happens in the town.
_Bibo gives the girl her ice cream, the girl breaks down the next day. Bibo fixes the girl and sets her on her way. He gives the girl her ice cream, the girl breaks down the next day. He fixes the girl and sets her on her way._ The cycle just keeps on going until Bibo, eventually, breaks down. Then there's no one to give the girl ice cream, no one to fix the girl when she falls apart, no one sit at home in a rocking chair warming their metal feet on the fire, and everything stops. There's nothing left in the little desert town with it's broken buildings and single working clock. Nothing happens. Nothing changes.
And idek I might be misinterpreting this but to be honest, anything that ends ambiguously is all up to the audience to figure out, so I'm right in my own way. Maybe next year when I'm 15 and I rewatch this 'cause it's so amazing I'll have a different view. Maybe *you* have a different view as well. If so, _please_ feel free to tell me what you think of this, I'd love to hear what other people think about things like this. I'm willing to listen.

This statement of yours makes me think how or what would happen if the world meet it's end, it's making me remember all my dark theories about it and making me all dark inside. Welp time to watch something silly xD

I never cease to be amazed by the enormous talent displayed on TH-cam. This short film is a masterpiece, with gorgeous visuals and a superb story. Hats off to its creators!

What I see is the robot can live 10.000 years. The village where he lives in might be destroyed, the family of the little girl that own him may be all death. And he keeps going with the love for the kids, so he build a little robot girl looks like one in the picture, so he can see her everyday. He sells the ice cream to make fun for the children like when he remember.

What a beautiful film. Simple, but it has such a backstory to it that you just have to wonder!
Think about it this way if a 7 minute video with no voices only sounds and a few scenes can make you feel any strong emotion then the makers have done a good job . It's not bad just because you don't understand it or you think it has bad graphics

Wow,fantastic little film.
Beautiful and detailed graphics with amazing music and sound effects! I feel like waiting for a long time from frame to frame at first (motions move slowly throughout the whole animation, still entertained by the graphics n music tho!), however when its towards the end, i just cried like a baby, felt so heartbroken, n suddenly understand whts goin on.. This animation is meant to be in a slow pace n repeated as this is really how Bibo lives in the story. I actually dont mind looking at the beautiful graphics in detail while the animation is going slowly cuz every detail is illustrated so carefully n nice! I didnt find it boring at all n it'll always be one of my fav short animation from now on!

if you look at 0:34 and pause you see a article about a war, and bibo has a warranty of 10,000 years so maybe that`s how long its been since the war? And would explain the state of the city, or what`s left of it. it`s sad really :(

Did you all know that the three pics and the newspaper have some hints about what happened and who is who? Well, in the first pic was Bono itself, the second pic was the girl (I suppose) grown up with bibo and the third pic was bibo selling ice cream. In the news paper you can read this: "The War. Myth or Near Future?". This leads us only to one thing: there was a war, and bibo was the only one who survived. Great short tho, it deserves all of its awards :)
