So I understand this is a story about sacrificing your own people for stuff, but these mice clearly have the ability to manipulate tools? Like they can change out lightbulbs, they can poke the trap with a stick to trigger it instead of sacrificing one of their own.
I think I get it. The Human will only keep the Trap if they feel like it works, otherwise they would throw it away
But if the trap doesn't catch any mice, the humans would stop putting traps. So some sacrifices have to be made.
I bet the elders do use sticks to steal cheese, cheese that they don't share with the rest of the nest.
Y'all are making some good points about the logistics behind trap placement by the humans
It's a metaphor how those in power work the lower classes because they expendable
I think it also has something to do with population control too
A couple of years ago, I found a little mouse in my garage in winter. I couldn't put her out in the cold so I took her in. Gave her a 40-gallon setup with toys and foodies galore. She trotted around like she won the lottery. She had three pups a week later and she and her two remaining daughters are living to old age. Which mice hardly ever have the privilege of having.

Funny! growing up we caught a mouse in the winter time and we kept ours as well but relocated it to a forest once it got warm for the season.

A dark ending but great animation nevertheless. Love wordless storytelling. Few months ago my uncles house had a colony of two dozen mice. He didn't want them killed so asked me for help. We used humane catch traps and the whole colony was relocated under an old shed in my yard which is a nice size. Loads of foliage and there's always bird seeds.

I wish all humans were like you. Seeing animals such as mice as living creatures rather than pests. They matter just as much as any of us.
I also had taken in a pregnant mouse in winter. She and her two daughters live in a huge set up with toys, wheels and bridges. They are older now but have been living in Mousey Haven their whole little lives. ❤🐭❤️
My fiancé once ripped his stepdad about using an inhumane trap. One of those glue ones I believe

I mean, the sad thing is even if the mouse didn't try to save their friend they still would have all died, it was pretty obvious the human had figured out there was a multitude of mice and were smart enough to steal the cheese so decided enough was enough. In this case curiosity and intuition resulted in at least one surviving.

So only the chosen can be the first to get to the cheese, not realising that only death awaits them and one mouse's courage tried to warn his friend after witnessing the real truth behind the prized cheese, but the friend wouldn't listen right up to the very end because he was chosen and the whole colony accepted him and because of his stubborness and pride he chose his colony over his loyal, faithful and trustworthy friend.
We should also be careful who our friends are, even our closest enemy could be our own family and relatives and just like the mouse, it's good sometimes to sit back and see the bigger picture.
Considering their intelligence it doesn't make much sense that they didn't have countermeasures in place for being gassed.
You have them know about electricity and grids and houses and mechanisms and tools and yet they have no clue about gasses? And they even have a ceremony for collecting cheese with sacrifices? You'd think it'd be done in a better way and much more strict if the owner knowing there is more then one was something they were trying to avoid.

This is basically a retelling of ancient societies beliefs in sacrificing one person to appease the gods to save the whole society, told through mice. The chief had to sacrifice a member of the society for the greater good, because, as long as the traps kept working, the gods were appeased. Once it was seen they were no longer catching the mice, they moved onto stage two, releasing the gas, and killing everyone all at one time. In trying to save everyone, the mouse wound up not saving anyone.
the man poisoned them because mice constantly fell into the trap, from which he realized that there were a lot of mice and it was time to clean them

The Snaping kind of mouse trap with the metal bar. The Metal bar has such a Force that When It Snaps shut on a mouse, It *BRAKES THEM.* And that Braking instantly kills them.
Love the animation, I wonder what the mouse journey in the outside will be like.

A bit confused by two things. What did the chosen Mice think was happening or where they were going when chosen. And what did the other Mice think when they did not return.
The chosen mouse would have been told he/she is going to ''heaven'' or someplace so wonderful that they wouldn't want to leave.

The artist should possibly consider moving their field of talent more toward the "not safe for work" stuff, I believe that quite a few men of culture would watch those programs regularly. More money to be made as well, otherwise outstanding animation.

Humane control and steps like mouse proofing with steel wool works. I helped a family member who had two dozen mice. None were killed.
How did you manage to catch two dozen mice without harming them and if you took them somewhere away from your house?
Well, the mice in this story are clearly sapient beings with human-like intellect. That's a bit different from rodents in the real world.
These animals depicted here are not really mice considering they have technology and minds that don't make much sense if you consider them mindless.
They setup an electricity grid with lights.
Is the lore of this world that humans and mice are at war?
