    Vin and Joe were the best network tag team of announcers ever.

      I second that, especially the 1986 World Series.

    NBC did games better than any other network.

    I was at this one, sitting all the way up behind home plate. That broken bat home run was something. And Gary Ward saved the Yankees with all those catches. Guidry toward the end of an outstanding career. Sad to see the old ball park, with the facade over the outfield, the courthouse beyond right center, the ample space in front of the fences and behind the fences. The current stadium is a band box.

    Jim Fockner and Dick Berries played a real tight game. Jim went deep in the long count when in mattered. Dick was heavy with the inside tries. Both had great single game records in a season marked by Johnsons.

      lemmiwinks09 If I'm right, "The Sarge" Gary Matthews had a broken bat home run when he played with the Chicago Cubs.

    Wally Joyner and Don Mattingly were on their way to Cooperstown.

      Wally Joyner was a bum what the hell did he ever do??

      Joyner was hardly a bum but neither he nor Mattingly is in Cooperstown.

    He actually hit that broken bat home run off the end of the bat, not the trademark. That's why it had enough pop to get out. It's deceiving because the pitch is over the inner half, but if you slow the speed down you can see it's off the end of the bat.

    I saw this live (on TV). I was thinking this was the same game as that lineup in which the Yanks had the pitcher bat. But that was the next year. Rhoden batted 7th or 8th in THAT NBC GOW game.

      Ryan Strnad that game when Rhoden was the DH was in 1988...That was a weird move...That Yankees team was stacked with hitters...Martin couldn't find anyone else to DH???...He must have been hitting the booze that day...Rhoden did hit a sacrifice fly in his first at bat.

      @@matthewharvey6459 Martin also had Mike Pagliarulo bat right-handed for one at-bat that year for some reason. Pagliarulo struck out.

    I grew up in the 80 s as a Yankee fan as a child good players no pitching no crowds no championship

    • @DetroitLove4U
      @DetroitLove4U 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No crowd for the 1985 Yankees - that was a real star-studded line up and very good team that just fell short.

  • @richardtoplitsky5143
    @richardtoplitsky5143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    But I do miss these days. When the Yankees used to suck just walk in and buy a ticket. No crowds now you have to buy tickets a head of time

    the yankees had some real good teams on the field in the 80s when rickey henderson was there...too bad their pitching was always not very good

    @ 1:48:30 YANKEES were 3-1 at the stadium vs. California, not 5-1 at the time. They were 5-1 at California. Just saying.
