@@ArktixOfficial u can easily get the carja sharpshot bow for a low price and all the best ammo types, very early on. also, the sharpshot bow shot without full draw, is very inaccurate and should only be used vs targets that u just cannot miss as they are huge and u will hit even when the shot goes far from where u aim it.
I didn't realise I had watched all these videos and your comment and subscriber count was so low! The production and pace of these videos, I automatically assumed these were well into the millions of views. I've watched the entire series and hats off as they have been really enjoyable to watch as well as informative.
Thank you so much! That’s very kind. I WISH I was getting that many views lol :) My channel is still very new, so I don’t think many people are seeing my videos yet. Thanks a lot for watching them. Views, likes, comments and all that stuff really helps me grow the channel. Gotta feed that almighty algorithm ya know :)
What a great explanation and thx for using "early" gear. Just beat a Stormbird for the first time but it took so much resources and time. You earned that subscription from me. 👍
Again, thanks for these videos. I gotta get a ropecaster. I took down the first stormbird you come across near the hunting grounds. I think the first time on the way to Meridian there is a special one right there along the path and real close. I saw two, but one was in your face. I stayed on the path which negates his melee attacks...apparently. 5K health and I could only do 78 with my precision arrows, unless he was close and then I used hardpoints. Yeah, I was saving up shards for when I got to the first merchant that sold a Shadow hunter bow. Needles to say it took a while. I did use tearblast to remove the ranged shock weapon and I was wearing the Survivor medium outfit so I had some damage reduction until that was gone. Once he was damaged to a point, he retreats beyond range of even the Sharpshot bow precision arrows. I had to lure him back by moving from my melee safe area or get lucky with a Carja dude on the ground started shooting at him. When I got a knockdown I still did not move from melee safe areas but just tried using hardpoint on any accessible weak point. I did not think to freeze him while down to get more damage points.
Great guide. But if you're good with your bow. Knock out the lightning weapon on it's chest and I think it becomes a oversized push over at that point. Freezing and bow shots w/o the ropecaster makes it a doable target.
My first stormbird fight was immediately after entering Carja territory, it saw me at the hunting ground entrance...i eventually killed it after 5 tries and progressed as soon as possible
I fuckin' love this video. Best HZD video i've ever seen. Thanks for helping me on my HZD journey. Loving all of it. Literally the best tips/tricks video i've ever seen. So many reason why i loved it. keep up the great work~!
Hey thanks! Glad you liked it 😄 And happy to hear I’m helping you out in HZD! I hope you’re enjoying the game and eventually play Forbidden West. I have TONS more content for Forbidden West! 👍
Came here immediately after watching you Tjaw strategy guide, and am now realizing I definitely don't use elemental damage as much as I should. At least I've mastered the ropecaster!
I never realized the value of freezing enemies and the extra damage. This was pretty much my strategy for Stormbirds anyway, but without freezing. I tended to hammer them with a blast sling when they were downed and they ended up as these skeletal, screaming, fire demon looking things when they finally went down. Looked awesome and was terrifying as well as satisfying, but used so many resources I tended to avoid them. Will definitely use this strategy on my next playthrough.
wonderful guide! I just started and struggled with my first stormbird, it ended up glitching and yeeted near some glinthawks. Only found the body after the hawks scavenged all the parts..
Just completed burning shores and I'm probably going back to zero dawn. Was it just me, or were machines way tougher in hzd? And the tail swipe the stormbird does here, it looks like it extends out quite a lot. I don't think I've seen this in hfw tho.
u can do way more damage if u hit the eyes but as u said, ideally do that when its not moving while stunned so u can hit there. i dont bother with ropes and not even destroying the lightning gun...but im high level. if u got the best gear, u can freeze it with freeze arrows like u said and then destroy it in the eyes or lightning gun with precision arrows from the maxed banuk powershot bow. it takes about 10 arrows even in ultra hard, and only seconds. less than a min.
do you have multiple shadow war bows specialized for the different arrow types? like one for freeze, one for shock, and one for corruption? it looked like you had several of them in your inventory, and the one you showed was modified to only boost freeze arrows. is this a worthwhile strategy? until now i've just used one SWB with one shock mod, one freeze mod, and one corruption mod. also, why do you have two ropecasters?
Good question! Yeah I do have multiple copies of certain weapons to specialize them. It is helpful, but it’s more of an end game thing since you probably won’t want to buy that many weapons as you play through the story. I’m not sure why I had two ropecasters here. I don’t specialize the ropecasters.
@@ArktixOfficial taking a closer look i think one was some kind of legendary weapon that either was a ropecaster or used the same model. i havent reached meridian yet so there's a lot i still havent seen
If you get all the Blazing Suns at all hunting grounds, you can get improved versions of the war bow, blast sling and ropecaster at the hunting lodge in Meridian.
LennoxPoodle Yes! Tearblast arrows can be good for the thrusters too! I just prefer to hit them with hard point or precision arrows for more total damage.
@@ArktixOfficial O, I wasn't refering to tearblast arrows but the tearblaster, the tear shotgun thingy you get from the first lodge quest. It does mad aoe.
I have a question, why does he not seem to walk towards you at the start? For me I hit him with two arrows and he goes to the ground with a big forcefield around him kicks me and I die instantly. Part I hate is there is no autosave before fighting him, so I have to kill all the machines in the vicinity before.
This is the only elite enemy that doesn't give me issues. Haven't died to it even once. Doesn't help that it's tracking is one of the worst and it's absolutely easy to cheese it.
@wayne wayne, that's interesting you say that. On the forums/reddit I've seen people say similar things. It seems like people either have no trouble with Stormbirds or they find them really tough. Not sure why it's so polarized like that. I'm curious, do you fight Stormbirds like I show here, or do you have a different strategy?
Tie it down, freeze it, shoot 12 sticky bombs on it from close range as fast as you can, rinse and repeat. Normally only takes like 18 sticky bombs with no status effect on it to kill it. These are super easy to kill
I don't actually, but @frqnchise pretty much has it. I typically hit them with fire arrows and then nail them after they fall down. Hitting them out of the sky is the hardest part
Awesome! I’m glad you found it helpful! I’ll been doing an updated Stormbird guide for Forbidden West, but this HZD strategy is still pretty accurate for HFW Stormbirds.
Damn, took me like half an hour and chipping away at its health 😅 I’m still new to the game and I used the hunter bow with the beginner arrows, also using some of the rope caster and freeze bombs (didn’t even know I can freeze them all the way, I’d use one bomb to get the effect)
Stormbirds are terrifying when I saw them. Also, how did you get a PC version of Horizon zero dawn? It's so cool the fact that this game is very accessible to people!
I have a 45% damage mod, 44% fire mod, and a 59% handling mod. With these mods on a shadow hunter bow, will it be able to kill a stormbird as effectively as you with the banuk bow? I'm having a lot of trouble with the mahine recently because I've been working to get an adept hunter bow, and it requires a watcher heart and a stormbird heart, and I got the watcher heart a lot more than need, but getting the stormbird heart is a bit challenging. Every other weapon I have is adept, just the hunter bow I haven't gotten.
I appreciate how this guide for gear and skills factors in where the average player is at by the time they see a Stormbird. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Yes, I definitely wanted to emphasize that. Not very helpful to see someone do it with all the best gear when you don’t have it yet!
