Great video as always Jeff, I went through your tutorial back in 2022, which was great, although even at that it still required a lot of tweaking each time you opened a project to use Machine within Cubase. To be honest, I made a switch over to Ableton, and have been exploring live over the past year or so, however this appears to be a big step in the right direction, as such I may upgrade to 14 and Machine 3 to revisit the set up, as having them working productively in unison would be amazing. Thank you for the time you take to continually look for a better solution, and then sharing it with your community. All the best!
Yeah, this video was to alleviate the tweaking, because I wasn't even using my own tips until I gifted out the track preset thing. I'm using it much more now because of this, but I also understand moving to Ableton. It really is a great combination of Cubase and Maschine, I just have a few things that hold me back from using it more.
so sick! i just bought a mint condition white mkII maschine from japan on ebay lol. excited to get back into maschine again. its been like 5 years! i’m using it either standalone and exporting stems or with logic! (:
Thanks so much for the helpful content like this you provide. I'm still on the fence about Maschine, and your take on these things and explanations are helpful.
@@jefgibbons For me in particular, I'm in this weird place where I own an NI KK S88 Mk2 controller and am largely stuck with v2.9 of the KK software because I use third-party content (Freelance Sound Labs) for presets that I can't get working with v3.x of the software. I'm very interested in the peculiarities of working with Maschine 3.x in Cubase ('m technically using Nuendo but it's essentially the same quirks I'm sure), maybe Maschine+ instead, and trying to figure out whether I ditch NI altogether or upgrade to a Mk3 controller. I don't know what you think, but I'm increasingly frustrated with NI's lack of attention to detail, lack of support, and bloated new versions of Kontakt and such.
Great vid! This helps. Can we get one showing a 16 piece drum kit routing each sound out to a separate track in Cubase? Every example I've seen makes it look way more complicated than it should be. I'm never sure if it's Maschine or the individual's workflow, but it's stopped me from purchasing Maschine on several occasions.
Hi Jeff , could you recomend a controller for Cubase 12 or 14 if I upgrade. My keyboard is a Roland rd 700 so not dedicated controller. Am using nanoKONTROL 1 but it's jumpy on stereo out in the mixer, very eratic fader jumping. What are you thoughts on Studiologic SL Mixface?
That Studiologic looks cool! I've had various fader controllers over the years, but I don't really "mix" a ton. Usually it's just moving a fader to a certain spot then forgetting about it. The mouse is always what I default to even if I have some fader controller set up. I wish Steinberg would make something custom for Cubase that could do things like sample chopping and beat playing, as well as mixer/channel strip control. The Maschine works for sure, check my template video in the description here, but I also find myself going back to the mouse more often than not!
'hello I am French and I am not sure I understood everything correctly.. for my part, the only thing that annoys me a little in my cubase/maschine workflow is that I have to systematically touch the routing parameters in maschine when I insert a new kit (for the midi and audio output assignments)... even with a template saved in maschine, I have to redo these few manipulations.... in the video, we see jeff inserting new kits and everything works??? is it possible to insert kits without having to modify these parameters?
You certainly did a great job there. But I for one couldn't care less about Maschine at this point any longer, and now prefer the new Cubase 14 Drum Machine by far for fast workflow and excellent groove overview. Since I NEVER re-use complete NI Maschine projects (rather import parts of them as examples and starting points), I much prefer importing Kits and some(! by far not all) Maschine expansion drum midis into the new Cubase 14 Drum Machine. After getting essential import results fast this way, I then enjoy the much better Cubase Pro 14 workflow, instead of all this unnecessarily complicated Maschine mess. Browsing backwards through my rougly 50 Maschine expansions, sorted by years, is quite a sobering experience anyways. The limited creative value of many Maschine Expansion projects becomes much more obvious, as soon as you deconstruct them and limit import to really useful material. On the other hand, I find a lot of surpringly useful effect sound samples/foley for further use in Cubase in these Maschine expansions. If I ever buy a Maschine expansion again, it will be for the only purpose of directly importing groove material I want to use into Cubase 14 Drum Machine format, while I feel no desire at all to use Maschine within Cubase ever again.
@defrigge oh I mean the software "kit maker" that people use to convert maschine expansions to numbered kits. This channel has a video on it. I'm still getting acquainted with the drum machine so I'm not totally sure how to add it to my workflow.
Great video, it would be awesome if NI addressed this once and for all.
I agree... thanks Robert!
Wow, at last I can begin to use Maschine in Cubase. Thanks Jeff you are wonderful 😊👍
You are totally on top of it! AMAZING!!
Fit is clean Jef🔥

That's awesome! The pads are so nice to play on, even as a trigger for Logic!

Glad to hear it! Let me know if you have specific things you're interested in seeing in a video.

Great video bro!!! Thanks for the tip, definitely going to use it🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾!!!
No prob, thanks my friend!
Thanks Jeff

But, even in Cubase 12 saving this setup as a Cubase template would still keep all the routing, yes/no?

Make sure +routing is NOT lit up! Sounds like it is…
Great Info Jeff, just wondering if this would work in Reaper....
I don't have Reaper myself, so hopefully someone could comment on their luck with it!

How are you importing them to drum machine? Do you use the kit converter? I'm still trying to figure out the different ways I can use these together

I hear you! I'm glad you've found a workflow as well, there are so many options for different people for sure.
i love cubase14, i love maschine plus. together i hate it
I hear you, with this combo it's growing on me! (But I traditionally have kept them very separate)
