VACATIONS in France with the Audi A6 Avant

Is it me or does it feel like SUVs are taking over our roads, everyone seems to have one, however, the latest Audi A6 Avant is proof to me that there’s still a place for the good old estate car. The current Audi A6 Avant offers a highly impressive combination of style, driving dynamics and, perhaps most importantly of all, practicality. We recently took the car to the Dordogne in France, a 10 hour drive from London, that fully tested the capabilities and practicalities of the car. Loaded up with two adults and two mini adults, plus luggage and a roof box just for good measure, we used LeShuttle and the channel tunnel to cross over and hit the French autoroutes.
This latest version of the A6 Avant is wider and taller than the one it replaced, which equates to a larger cabin, with the luggage capacity remaining the same huge 565 litres it was previously.
As you would expect from a premium estate car,inside is a quality-rich cabin that’s filled with plenty of up-to-date technology as well as three digital screens. Based on the interior alone, the A6 Avant rivals some of the best in the market. The A6 Avant 40TFSi gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit thats mated to an S tronic automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, while the more powerful 45 TFSI petrol and 40 TDI diesel get quattro all wheel drive. Both engines benefit from a 48-volt mild hybrid system that allows coasting at speed to improve fuel economy while delivering a power boost to aid initial acceleration.There’s also the choice of a 50 TFSI e plug-in hybrid variant. This consists of a 2.0-litre petrol engine working in tandem with a single electric motor, which is what we tested.
The Audi A6 Avant range has three trim levels: Sport, S Line, and Black Edition, all of which are generously equipped, as you would expect.
Prices start from around £45,000 increasing to over £65,000 for top of the range,fully loaded cars. You can choose from a wide range of comfort, technology and safety options, however, many of which command a four-figure price tag.

Out of brands like BMW and Mercedes, I have always preferred the Audi’s. Their design is timeless. Even older models have interiors that hold up even now.
