the first 100 or so pages of fantasy can really be tough to get through, as a new(ish) fantasy reader, but once i'm in, it's EXCELLENT escapism - i really just fall into the world and lose my worries for the time i'm enjoying the story. i'm currently reading Elantris, my first Brandon Sanderson! what books are you guys reading? 📖
@@Jammer2727 i'm so glad you said that lmao, because i'm about half way through and losing interest a little, so i'm glad the ending is something to look forward too. way of kings is defo one i want to pick up soon!
You're right, some beginnings are tough. Audiobooks have really helped me with fantasy, I start the book with them and if I like it I finish the book on my kindle. It also depends on the book haha
A Court of Thorns and Roses brought me back into reading, so I always recommend that for Fantasy- beginners. There will come a darkness is also a top notch multi pov Fantasy story!
This video is MUCH needed!!!! I have JUST started getting into fantasy books (and you're right, they really are a lot of fun!)!! This list is everything!! Thank you for the awesome recommendations!!
I felt your emphasis on FINISHED. I feel like both ASOIAF and The Kingkiller Chronicle would be great entry points for fantasy readers, but why trap more people in a state of eternal anticipation and disappointment.
I finally read A Darker shade of magic trilogy this year and I loved it! My little sister is reading the first one now. Can't wait to have more of this world
Thank you so much for finally making this haha I would add Lies of Locke Lamora to this list. I’ve just started the series and it’s so amazing. I would really call it medium fantasy as it definitely has its own world but it’s pretty contained and not super elaborate (compared to the Stormlight archive for example). It’s also character driven, which I personally love. I have been trying to get into adult fantasy and this one is definitely a winner for me!
My top fantasy recommendation is KJ Parker. The Engineer Trilogy is just fantastic. Second one is Daniel Abraham (one of the Expanse cowriters). His Dagger and Coin series is also terrific. Both series are about war and politics and intrigue and romance set in really well realised fantasy worlds. I heart them and no one on booktube ever talks about them
@Lakacia Lloyd I thousand percent agree with you. I literally loved the series but I absolutely could not stand the ending. I think this is the only series where I got to the end and regretted reading it.
It's just so refreshing to see someone who doesn't recommend the same old farm-boy-coming-of-age stuff people recommended 25 years ago! Thank you! My own recs would be Red Sister for fans of action movies, The City We Became for fans of gorgeous prose who want a more urban story, An Ember in the Ashes for everyone, and The Empress of Salt and Fortune for fans of dreamy prose and short books. I would especially love a rec video of SF/F for older fans of literary fiction/classics/murder mysteries, because most people wanting to get into fantasy that *I* know are over 30 and got curious due to GoT. All the teens these days already start with fantasy anyway.
Regan I literally googled your channel with 'beginner fantasy recommendations' last week. I'm a long time fantasy reader but I got in a bad genre slump and I want to get back to it so thank you, you witch!
1. REDWALL. THE BEST Children's Fantasy series ever written IMHO and a series I still read whenever I'm in the mood for light fare because Brian Jacques was a wonderful storyteller! 2. The Chronicles Of Narnia. 3. Harry Potter. 4. Rick Riordan's works 5. The Hobbit 6. The Wheel Of Time
Empirium trilogy by Claire Legrand is a favourite of mine I think you should check out. It's an adult dark fantasy with a lot of mystery, there are court politics at play but I'd say it's mostly character led. It's also multi POV (not the first one but it escalates).
I mean I am planning to reread the entirety of Game of Thrones this year, so I am not sure why I am watching this ... Oh wait, yeas I do: because of Regan !
I read queen of the tearling forever ago when it first came out and then never continued on with the series....I’m def interested in picking it back up at some point!
I feel like A Darker Shade of Magic and Mistborn are both perfect if you like YA and want to get into more adult fantasy, because they still have young/teenage main characters and some YA tropes that might be familiar. Also, if you liked Game of Thrones as a TV show, I HIGHLY recommend the books because they are amazing!! Perhaps you shouldn't read this as your very first adult fantasy series, but when you've read a couple and you're not afraid of commitment, give this one a go.
I request video about urban-fantasy book recommendations. I'm newbie of fantasy genre and I started with urban fantasy genre. Thankyou for this video btw, I really love all of your book recommendations 🥰
I must plug The Belgariad cycle by David Eddings (it starts with Pawn of Prophecy), as it is my eternal task. It’s a very lovely high fantasy series that I really think more people should read!
I really enjoyed the bone shard daughter bone shard emperor comes out in November I will be reading black prism next year I have wat to many books to read this read I also enjoyed queen of the tearling but I hated the ending in the final book 😠🤯🤪 warbreaker was the first book that I read from Sanderson 😊☺️🤗
Another recommandation would be Michael Sullivan's *Riyria Revelations* which imo takes very familiar elements of classic fantasy and gives a modern feel to them.
Agora é só procurar se tem esses livros em português....love the video, i started reading fantasy when i was younger and then stoped, but now i want to get back, thanks for the video
a great place to start fantasy for beginners i feel should as inclusive of traditional elements in fantasy but not too overwhelming at the same time, so THE INHERITANCE CYCLE by Christopher Paolini would be my recommendation 😊. Great video once again !
What book would you recommend that has characters that are very lively and share a friendship bond NOT a love story "get tire of reading those " that is fantacy
NOT fantasy, but you should read Finlay Donovan Is Killing It. It's a really fun/wild time! A divorced mother who is failing at being a writer accidentally becomes a contract killer.
Would anyone have a fantasy recommandation for someone who is more into magical realism and character-driven story ? I really like reading for the character and am not a fan of action, and outside Harry Potter I haven't read much fantasy (even Percy Jackson didn't work for me as it's action action action)
Hi! I really enjoyed ‘Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance’ and am currently reading and loving ‘The House In The Cerulean Sea,’ and I think either would be up your alley!

Elantris was a hard read for me, but it ended well. Way of Kings by Sanderson was so much better and exceeded the hype.

I'm reading, "ship of magic" by Robin Hobb currently. I'm enjoying it so far!
I'm so happy to see Neverwhere in this list, the audible version read by Neil himself is absolutely amazing!

This is great! I am new to the genre so I just added many more books to my TBR. Thank you!
Warbreaker is my favorite book ever and I'm so happy to see it getting some love 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I fell absolutely in love with Black Sun when I read it and now I want to devour more fantasy - so I have all the faith in this list, thank you :D

1. REDWALL. THE BEST Children's Fantasy series ever written IMHO and a series I still read whenever I'm in the mood for light fare because Brian Jacques was a wonderful storyteller!
2. The Chronicles Of Narnia.
3. Harry Potter.
4. Rick Riordan's works

6. The Wheel Of Time
Rick Riordan to Wheel of Time? That escalated quickly 😅
How would the Wheel of Time be a good starting point for beginners to fantasy? Its 14 books with around 1000 pages each
@@victor_734
The length doesn't matter. The series isn't tough reading in any way.
Redwall to The Wheel of Time...
I'm so glad that you recommended the Lightbringer series! I love those books, and I want more people to read them. :)
I would recommend The Remnant Chronicles as a great starter fantasy series! An absolute favorite.
Empirium trilogy by Claire Legrand is a favourite of mine I think you should check out. It's an adult dark fantasy with a lot of mystery, there are court politics at play but I'd say it's mostly character led. It's also multi POV (not the first one but it escalates).

I would add Dresden Files, Traitor's Blade, and Sufficiently Advanced Magic by Andrew Rowe to this list.

I highly suggest "Kingdom of the Wicked" by Kerri Maniscalco. It is amazing 🙌🏽 Happy reading, my fellow book lovers!
yeah and the stalking Jack the Ripper series..it was my first series and I loved it (im a beginner reader)

Intermediate Fantasy book recs down the line?
The Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind. I think there are 15 books in the series now. The books are easy to read, long, and intense.

You want to support chinese tv drama have following plot:
Clan
Trader war
Loyal to emperor
Betrayal from emperor servant
Son to be throne
Assansin go to house and kill their target
Found lover at uncertain time war looming
They are people centric , not about know the action, you can explain the novel.
What is the difference to talk dislike to people never bother about anything and still watch the movie.
SO MANY ADS :( Great video tho.

Yesssss this is exactly what I needed! 🤌 I’m in a fantasy mood, but wanted something more mature than teen fiction.
