@@feylights166 thank you! I was always too scared to pick up fantasy because I was afraid the world building would be over my head, but I’m so glad I started. They are SUCH a fun journey.
I’m so glad I started the Farseer trilogy two years ago based on your recommendation. I’m a true RH fan girl now too! I just finished the Fitz and the Fool trilogy and my heart is shattered. So freaking good. The sequel to Middlegame comes out this week! I can’t wait. The Jade City trilogy was excellent too. There’s a supplemental book coming out soon! The Jadesetter of Janloon!
After watching you gush for Robin Hobb over the last year or so, I finally decided to bite the bullet, and I just started Assassin's Apprentice this month. I am LOVING it! I bought the beautiful illustrated edition, and I'm glad I did! Everything else on here is on my TBR too.
Thank you for your recommendations! Thanks to a previous vid of yours, I picked up Assassin's Apprentice and the rest of the series! I believe a total of 16 books for this series 😁 and I am happy to report I have started Assassin's Apprentice and I am in love with her writing. Thank you so much ❤️
Thanks for the rec. I'm not a beginner at all and I'm more into old school dense epic fantasy such as "The Dragonlance Chronicles", "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" series, or "Elric of Melniboné" series, "The song of Albion"... Although my favourites of all the times are Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. They are my comfort novels. I tried to read newer fantasy books such as Bardugo's works (because of the hype), but I speak Russian and I found her use of Russian inspired terminology stupid and the plot predictable. I'm going to try your recommendations since they really sound awesome! Thanks! ☺️
I started reading the Farseer trilogy last month and each book is better than the previous one. If her next trilogies in the world of the Realm of the Elderings are as good or even better , I think I will easily become a huge Robin Hobb fangirl myself. Right now I need more Hobb in my life ! 🙃
I have been interested in starting fantasy and read my first fantasy book recently: God of Jade and Shadow and really loved it! I bought Kaikeyi because I love the mythological retelling aspect of fantasy stories! So good!
Raegan! You are so eloquent and you speak about books so well. You should seriously consider becoming a video essayist or starting your own podcast! I’d listen to you forever!! Also, I love all the books you recommend and found my favourite author- Brandon Sanderson- because of you :)
Agree 100% with the Broken Earth recommendation. Some friends recommended it and I read it (and was amazed) long before I discovered BookTube and started thinking I was interested in the fantasy genre.
These were very unique recommendations! As someone who doesn't read a ton of fantasy I'd love to see what you might recommend from the fantasy genre for a sci-fi lover? Love your videos!
I'll throw The raven rings by Siri Pettersen into the mix. Amazing norse mythology-esque book series with interesting characters, extreme plot twists and cool worldbuilding. These books deserve more love.
My favorite genre is slice of life with strong family/friendship themes, historical or contemporary. My favourite fantasy books are: Howl's Moving Castle, the Wayward Children Series, Furthermore, and The Graveyard Book
Yeeees, professional Robin Hobb fangirl club stand up!! Hahaha, I'd definitely agree that they're slice of life. The cover for The Helm of Midnight is absolutely gorgeous.
My favourite books are the name of the wind and the wise man's fear by Patrick rothfuss, does anyone have any book recommendations that are similar to or as good as these books? Thank you
I love your recommendations. I had to take a break from booktok because the same books were getting recommended and I was looking for some “not as popular as SJM fantasy” if ya know what I mean
I have been a fantasy lover for most of my life, but I still watched this for recs. I am curious about the conversations around queerness you mentioned in She Who Became the Sun, as historically, China wasn't always so homophobic (though it was mostly male-centetered, so not sure how it pertained to women). I haven't read the book though, so I don't actually know the context you're referring to.
haven't read it, but I believe it centres on a daughter masquerading as a son, so that may be the aspect she is talking about. I think the author left a comment on Goodreads clarifying some details too
@@ChristianRumi From what i heard, there is also a sapphic romance in it, so that's probably an aspect, too. Regan mentioned conversations around sexuality, so I'm wondering if modern sensibilities were used, or if the views of 14th c. China were taken into account. I guess I'll have to read it and find out lol.
I hadn't heard of this before and I'm desperate for a finished series. Despise waiting. Just feel like I have read everything ... But you liked this? It doesn't get great reviews and for some reason I can only see a few in Goodreads.
The country in Spinning Silver is inspired by Lithuania, not Russia (just like Uprooted takes place in Poland). This is because the author is of Polish-Lithuanian descent. It's important for most of us from Central-Eastern Europe not to be confused with Russians, because there's a lot of bad blood there.
I guess I just feel like the romance part is implied to happen after. More of a "they will fall in love" ending than a "they have fallen in love" ending, which is what I would consider more romance. By the end of the book the main characters have only just decided to tolerate their "love interests" as opposed to continuing trying to kill them off lol.
Same! I went into this a few years ago expecting the "romance" I was told was there to play a much larger role. It really doesn't exist at all. I was disappointed as it was recommended as a fantasy romance, I think there are other better recs for this category. Still a good book just not the sub-genre I'd put it in.
The book with heart and Feminism but with real world impacts... Lead Me Where The Light Is Ours. Women document how PopeFRANClS promoted priests who covered up abuse over the past couple years.
YES! I've always described the Farseer Trilogy as a 'Fantasy Daily Vlog' haha
The Helm of Midnight keeps popping up for me. Taking this as a sign, and finally adding it to my TBR !
its so good!
Yesss! I'm so excited for this video because I recently decided that I am officially a ✨fantasy girlie✨
Welcome to the wonderful world of fantasy. There is a plethora out there.

@@ChristianRumi oh now I really need to hurry up 😆can't wait!!! Thank you!
So much good reading ahead for you!
Regan’s recommendations are AWESOME! Then again Regan’s blogs are always AWESOME!
I have finally picked up the fifth season after so many rave reviews and I'm so excited to start it!!!
Could we get an “advanced fantasy recommendations” list? As in, less known titles that die hard fantasy readers should pick up next.

That Cover for Middle Game is everything! 😀 Thank you for these recommendations.
Middle Game, welcome to my TBR.
She Who Became the Sun was so good!
This was great! I think for historical Mask of Mirrors could also work it felt like it was set in Victorian times
Agree 100% with the Broken Earth recommendation. Some friends recommended it and I read it (and was amazed) long before I discovered BookTube and started thinking I was interested in the fantasy genre.
Thank you for adding to my tbr list and you can tell people that your recommended me is now over 500 books 📚 love your family friend John xx
Thank you for all the recommendations😊you really helped me out of a reading slump trying to find fantasy books that I would love like Legendborn

HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE ! Good choice . I read it too .

Can you do a review on The Dancing Jax trilogy? It's very dark fantasy merged with romance

Love Spinning Silver, but for romance???? Ummm....
I love the romance in it! it's my weakness

Is She Who Became The Sun a stand-alone, or is it an unfinished series?
There is going to be a second book, but it also works really well as a standalone in my opinion.
First book in a series. I wouldn't call it "unfinished" since it literally just came out not that long ago...
