      If you think that's going to keep you from having some items that take a little more effort to service, you'll be in for a surprise. This wasn't that bad, and if you only have to do it every 4-5 years, it's not that big of a deal.

      I've made that decision in 2010 and have NEVER looked back. Chevrolet, Toyota, and Mitsubishi is what ive owned since then. Although the Toyota can be a headache sometimes, it's nothing like that Ford bs. Never, ever again in my life. Oh yeah and Chevy, God bless Chevy for making my life easy. Tahoe to be exact.

      @@JoseRamirez-yh2llthe truth is they are all garbage these days as they all source their parts like sensors, etc. from the same parts bin suppliers and manufacturers make it more complicated trying to force people to come to the dealership for service. Society in general has been going down the toilet and that includes the car industry too. Nothing is made to last these days without problems to gouge more money from your wallet. Just think of all the extra cash governments collect on the sale of car parts. It’s all by design and yet they preach that carbon is killing the environment. Hypocrites.

    Best video so far, seems a lot of people take off the air filter housing and go through the front but this is the best video for a top down approach with basic tools. Thanks!

    • @timinater
      @timinater ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Those other videos try to claim that they are the easy way, and I might have tried that method, but (fortunately) I didn't have the tool to be able to get to the negative terminal. Once I saw this video, I realized this is the easier way, with much better access to the negative terminal, which is especially helpful when you need to clean it.

      To take it out through the front you only need an 8mm socket for the air cleaner box, a trim tool or screwdriver and a 10mm socket for the battery terminals and the hold down bracket.
      All pretty basic tools IMO.

  • @timinater
    @timinater ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Quick note: the wiper arms use a 15mm nut and the cowl bolts use 8mm nuts. The others are as stated in the video. I thought this was going to be a much more difficult task than it was.
    Also, dielectric grease is available at any auto parts store.

    I’ve done both methods, this way was much easier than removing the air filter. You do need to bring wiper motor to resting position and line up wipers when reattaching otherwise won’t work properly. Most videos leave that part out. Plus, don’t forget battery reset.

    Another one of Ford's not-better ideas! Just like the rear cargo light on the side wall, as soon as you set a bag of groceries, the light is blocked! It should be up top. I love you made this a fast video, I hate watching a video that they drag out for 30 minutes. ps, my 2016 uses a 15 mm on the wiper blade nut. A method that worked for me removing them, I loosened the nut about several turns, then I used a prybar and just used a light amount of upward pressure under the arm at the mount, then I used a rubber hammer and tapped on the nut, before reinstalling the wiper arms, turn the car on, then back off, it will reset the resting location of the arms.

  • @jimfoust4538
    @jimfoust4538 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've now done this both ways and I recommend the way it's done in the video. Slightly more involved than going through the airbox, but the work is more straightforward and you'll feel better about yourself afterward. Just loosen wiper nut about half way then smack the nut with a hanner while you hold the wiper arm below with a big screwdriver or pry bar. Once you get the cowl opened up, it's WAYYYY easier to deal with the battery.

    Its worth mentioning that if you havent replaced the shifter linkage bushing yet, then pull the airbox and pull the battery forward while replacing the linkage bushing. Given the bushing fails and the shifter does nothing, its probably worth replacing the bushing with every battery replacement.

    Let me just be clear about one thing, this is a abridged version of replacing the battery. Directions are precise and very clear, but the actual labor time is gonna run you about 2-3 hrs total.

    Ahhh yes, I love having to have a 10mm socket and how to take and put back the whole wiper blade to get a jump.

      There’s a ground cable to the right of the battery if you just need a jump or you can use any bare piece of metal for the ground. This is just if you need to replace the entire battery

      @@bsm652000 I’ve been thinking about this comment since I left, I made a brash assessment and didn’t do my research, I appreciate you pointing that out. I just got caught up in the anger lol.

    It’s easier to take the battery out, taking out the air filter and the air filter box soon as that’s how you can pull the battery up easy took me 10 minutes

    Tried that but can't get the battery out. The space is too tight or maybe I am just weak. Idk. Lol

      You do have to tilt the battery quite a bit to get it in/out, even though you're usually told not to tip them.

      @@georgerife8729 yes I did figure out a way which involves taking out the airbox. After that the battery is very easy to slide out ^_^
