Opened my wife's hood today to hook up the battery charger as hers seemed dead. And it took me 2 mins to find the damned thing! This is the most asinine spot I have ever seen a battery placed in a car. I couldn't even get the booster cables onto it. Luckily the charger has smaller clamps. I may have to replace it but won't know until I get home from work. Thank you for the video. I was hoping I didn't have to take out the air box, but at least I know how now!

I have a 2016, the FoMoCo Battery died with no warning after 45 months and I read that the BMS "Battery Maintenance System" needs to be reset after replacement. One way to do this is with an OBDII device connected to a USB Laptop port running FORScan. This reset tells the car that a new battery has been installed, this changes the charging parameters that are designed to prolong the life of the battery. I use Interstate batteries in my F-150 and replace it every 5 yrs and they are still hot. I trust Interstate and I am installing an Interstate MTP-96R. Thanks for the Video.

Thanks so much. The video helped me out. I opened the hood of my car to replace the battery and I COULDN'T EVEN FIND IT! What was Ford thinking? And, not for nothing but you're a trained mechanic. It appears that this probably took you, with all the correct tools, over a 1/2 hour to complete (guessing there was some video editing).

That is why I watched your video since its in the same place on this Escape. I'd replace it by removing the cowl and lifting it out, but I think the factory manual has it like the video. One thing might want to do is disconnect the negative side strap, located to the right of the battery under the cowl, then securely wrap the end in a shop rag or plastic baggie, this will prevent any potential for electrical shorts.

I ended up taking off everything on top like a previous viewer mentioned. 20 items total, the 2 larger panels above the battery, this included 8 clips and 4 screws, (metric) both of the wiper arms had to come off , actually it was fairly easy. And the stupid covers (2) over the battery box. The negative connector to the battery had so much corrosion you could hardly see it, I mention this only because the car is only a few years old 2013. Anyway, thanks for the great video. I hope my comments help someone else. Jeff

      @ashes8256 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Ivan Z. D. This is the second time I swap the battery, I literally swapped it on Monday. And the reason I looked up this video was cause I’m having trouble with a wiper. It’s stripped and I can’t put it back on :/ lol so I have another issue to look up.
And I didn’t have to reset anything. I never got a battery light come on. But I know to reset the oil change lite you step on both the gas and break at the same time (car off / keys on) good down for like a good long 2 min almost

If the battery has been dead or disconnected for more than a few minutes how do you reset the computer? It is my understanding that if the power has been disconnected for more than a half hour the computer has to re-learn the idle value and shift points and fuel feed values.

I’m considering utilizing a Qwik-Fill system that fits on most Group 24-31, 12 volt marine deep cycle, dual purpose, and starting batteries. Specifically those batteries that conform to the standard 3 cell space. Each hole should .75 inches in diameter and spaced 1 5/8 inches apart (measured center to center). Not sure if small Motorcraft batteries meet these dimensions. Gonna measure the one that came out of my Son’s Focus. Same problem on the new ones. Batteries dry up here in desert. They should have installed maintenance free type battery if access with access so limited - total maintenance nightmare / money grab.

Damn people sure can complain. Ford is a good product. Looks like the battery is tucked away safely. Maybe your head on collision will save your life and you wont wake up from your concussion with your body on fire. Just saying. Damn haters on Ford. Sick of it.

I just had to do a replace on a 2014 and it was the first Escape I've done....hopefully its the last lol. Took almost and hour and probably would've been easier to just remove the entire cowling and wipers. Horrible design by Ford and I encourage anybody that is faced with the job of replacing the battery on their 2013-2016 Escapes to just trade it in towards a Chevy or have your neighbor kick you in the nuts.

Actually removing the wipers and cowling is the way you are supposed to do it, from start to finish takes only 20-30 minutes doing it that way

before you start slaming on Ford, check out a '13 Chev Equinox. Before ANYTHING can be serviced, you have to remove wall to wall plastic. You can't even SEE the engine that is buried under plastic panels. Sure looks pretty when you open the hood.

Thank you for the video. It helped me figure out how to finish the job. The cowl removal method is different, but I wouldn't necessarily call it better. After watching a video on the cowl method, it's also an inconvenient way to access the battery. Ford sure made it harder than it needed to be.

Saw this video and decided it’s not going to be something I want to do... so Pepboys does Free install and cleaning and new connections for their customers. I saw the guy pull half of the engine out to get to it and was very frustrated lol but he did it not me :P

Ford does at least do right by putting a maintenance type battery in there, but you can't even get the water caps off without taking the cowling off. I just dumped some water in the positive side, hopefully the negative side wasn't as low... I added about 16 ounces of purified water to the battery's positive cells using a straw. No way on earth to get the other side off without disconnecting cables, and no way to disconnect the cables without taking the cowling or half the intake apart.

+Jat519 That is almost as funny as my Sebring Convertible which had the battery access inside the drivers side front wheel well. You have to remove the plastic inner fender wall to even see it. And it was easier to remove the wheel before starting.

Removing the cowl is WAY faster and less dinking around! Search TH-cam and learn a thing or two! This method is the LONG WAY around! Been there done this! It's actually quite simple! Just pay attention! Or take it in somewhere that will do this method!

Thank you for this video!!! Thank you for showing the ONE AND ONLY CORRECT WAY to change a Ford Escape battery. FFS! As soon as I saw other videos removing the wipers I though, WTF? how can that be? Because it isn't. What it is, is ignorant morons who think they know better than the Ford engineers. It is incredible how much mis-information there is about changing the Ford Escape battery on TH-cam. Most other videos show these ignorant morons removing the windshield wipers and cowling to change the battery. It is NOT easier to remove the wipers, the cowling, as they damage the clips that hold the cowling in place. Moronic.

I have done this miserable job twice now...both ways..the removing the cowling way and this way..the method in this video is far preferable..videos that tell you to remove the cowling and wipers are steering you wrong...I wound up with wipers that wouldn't work when reinstalled and an expensive trip to the dealership.
