How To Front And Rear FJR1300 Brake Fluid Flush

  • Flushing the FJR1300 brake system with new fluid is not hard but does take some time, especially if you have an ABS model. I show you the simple way of actuating the pump but alternatively you can access the battery area and jump the sky blue to black wires using the long diagnostic procedures (that varies per generation) you can google for. Bear in mind a normal flush will not 100% clear the system of old fluid, you do need to actuate the ABS pump once. The flush order is front left, front upper right - for the front circuit. Front lower right then rear, for the rear. Then hit the ABS on the rear and do the rear again.

    Normally, I love your tutorials - they are very thorough and informative, however, this tutorial falls short. What I was anticipating was a start to finish detailed video showing the actual bleeding process (front and rear), the recommended brake fluid type, the sequence, and other tips. I would recommend you remake this tutorial if you still own your FJR1300.

    First -- thank you for all the very helpful videos. Really appreciate all the information and help.
    Would it be possible to add a video that shows the actual drawing out and filling of the brake fluid (and clutch fluid), please? It would be nice to see how to use the vacuum tool to suck out the clutch brake fluid and at the same time fill the reservoir with fluid as you are drawing it out from the bottom, and show what it looks like when the old fluid is all drawn out and the new/clean fluid starts coming out.

    I didn't catch it in the video if it was mentioned, but the front bottom bleeder (the linked piston on the front caliper) is fed by the fluid reservoir for the rear brake, so be sure to watch the fluid level in that reservoir, not the one on the handlebar, when bleeding that one front piston.

    Well all your videos helped me "give in" and traded my Kawasaki C14 for a 2015 FJR just this past Saturday and & love my new bike. Thx again for all your informative videos and if I have a technical question on my new bike I will drop you a line, ride safe & stay safe.

    Can you tell me if you have to activate the abs pump prior to doing the fluid flush on the front right caliper lower nipple (back) or do you do this prior to going a ride.
    After returning from activating the abs pump is it just the back brake caliper that needs bleeding?

  • @jacobsnutritionlife767
    @jacobsnutritionlife767 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey man. It seems I'm not understanding fully....do you bleed all 4 brakes initially....the actuate the ABS via the stopping method and then bleed the rear two brakes (the one nipple on the front and obviously the back)? Also, the rest of your videos are extremely thorough and show every little detail, however on this one you do not show the actual process of bleeding and refilling the reservoir (which would help me out tremendously as I am a total newbie). Just a thought, but thanks for all your help so far as I'm a new FJR owner and subscriber

      Good question I asked the same, I think to be certain I would repeat the entire process once you have test ridden it and actuated the abs, it’s only going to be a little extra dot 4 fluid

    Managed to get the tool for my FZ1 not sure if it's the same part. It's an interesting test the bike does :) but you're right it's essentially a jumping few pins.

    So once you have done rear brake flush, and actuated the abs, do you need to reflush rear brake system again, or just front nipple or back?

    Hi mate, i've been enjoying the videos for a while now, so thanks for them! I was just wondering if there's anything I should be looking out for, other than the usual stuff, when buying used? I'm looking at a 2004 with 68K but with a FSH, looks very clean from the pics... I'm in the UK... Thanks :)

    I have an 09 FJR with no clutch, I have to pump the rear brake peddal or it just will not work, but if I use the front hand brake, both front and back engage just fine, any ideas as to what causes that ? or what my problem is ?

      +ROB NAVAEI do a complete scheduled service including full fluid flush and seal change.

  • @Hartlandservices
    @Hartlandservices 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to explain why the brakes still work while it is on the stand but the abs pump needs to cycle to bleed the fluid out of the pump. Does the fluid by pass the abs pump under 6mph or does it still go through the pump like ever other abs pump braking system. Or is this whole hooking wires together a crock of .... so the dealer can get payed.

  • @robertbrandywine
    @robertbrandywine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, you are saying that just flushing twice doesn't get the fluid in this ABS reservoir? That would mean the fluid sits there isolated until such time as you activate the ABS? It wouldn't be doing all that much harm to leave it then, would it?

    • @TwoWheelObsession
      @TwoWheelObsession  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does do harm. The ABS system is prone to rust and failure with old fluid trapped in it for long periods of time. You must actuate it to get out the old fluid.

    • @robertbrandywine
      @robertbrandywine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In your other video you implied you have to lock up both front and back because there are two separate reservoirs. Is this correct?

    • @TwoWheelObsession
      @TwoWheelObsession  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Or use a tool/jumper like in my later vid to manually actuate the system, if available for your particular model.

      +TwoWheelObsession Alright, online on fuelly.com it says average mpg about 45MPG. I have a Ninja 300 and I can only manage to get about 45MPG. Do you have any tips? I should be getting about 55MPG or higher. My bike has 11,000 used tires are balding and I am a new rider with 1,000 miles under my belt.
      Thanks

    • @TwoWheelObsession
      @TwoWheelObsession  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +counkev MPG greatly depends on where you ride and how you ride it. I ride it WOT a lot. Sure if I ride like a granny I can get way more. Who cares about MPG anyway? It is what it is.
