This episode really resonates with me this year. My Father-in-law just passed two days ago. He left his hunting cabin to my wife and I. I feel an immense sense of pride and responsibility to carry on the traditions that he created through that place. Thank you meateater for putting such an emphasis on family and tradition.
What a nice production. I love seeing how you’re trying to create something for a future generation. Memories inspire and the memories you had are feeding your passion. This is heartwarming. I’ve always enjoyed your content on the podcasts and such, but this was special. Thank you.
What a well-told story. I’ve never been so enamored by a 26 minute hunting show where they don’t kill anything. You guys tell the story of the family deer camp. There are tens of thousands of people that can relate to that through similar experiences. Well done guys. Keep making these types of videos.
Crazy, when my brothers and I were teenagers we talked about having a deer camp cabin together when we get older. Now I’m 35 and have three boys 6-11. Their whole life they have been hearing about my dream of owning a deer camp cabin. One day even if they’re all my age now we will own a cabin. Good job Mark don’t let the traditions die.
This is my favorite MeatEater mini series. Seeing Mark improve a piece of land, year-over-year, that his family has hunted for a long time is so gratfying and relatable. I would guess that many of the viewers are probably going through the same process with their family hunting land right now as well. I know I am. Love it this kind of content.
That’s a hunters Dream ! Congratulations on having a wonderful grandfather, he set the path for happy times with the family whilst participating in the best hobby/sport in the world,
Thank you, Mark, growing up in Michigan with my family of deer hunters this meant a lot to me. Please make sure we always keep our memories alive and well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Brings back memories of hunting with my Dad, uncles and cousins in the BIG woods of the Allegheny Nat'l Forest in NW PA back in the late 60's and 70's. Great to see the family values and traditions being passed down.
U can feel pride and love in that blind, super cool , my dad started me on whitetails when I was legal to hunt in Minnesota where him and his brothers grew up, but we lived in a California at that time and I got hooked on mule deer hunting I put in miles and hours , but now we hunt in Texas where we live now , me and my dad's relationship isn't the best and isn't worse either, both hardheaded I would say, but hunting and fishing was always the glue that made the important and best memories for us, God and family is everything , season ain't over yet for us hopefully we can get it done , this episode just reminded me how much sitting in the blind and shooting the stuff with pops is as important as that big buck we all want , excellent video fellas
Love this stuff. Family. Memories. Heritage. Coming from a family man like Mark with such a passion, bordering on obsession (ok, let's be honest, OBESSESION), it makes it all the more relatable and downright heartwarming. Great stuff, @WiredToHunt and MeatEater!
Would have loved to have a family deer camp and traditions like this growing up, awesome video. Got into hunting little later on and no one in my family hunted when i was younger. But im glad i got into it, better late than never
Love you see the big dogs getting down at a classic deer camp, it’s exactly where we cut our teeth here at Siman Brothers Outdoors. And we consider ourselves experts in Deer Camps.
Awesome to see other hunters actually keeping traditions alive. Hunters and Trappers are a dying breed and its our responsibility to teach the next generations
We have what we call "the shack" it's a cabin 2 miles in the mountains woods built by my grandpa and great uncle who passed away from brain cancer. We still go out there every year and I love it.
Ive seen so many hunting shows and videos. Does nobody hunt by pushing and walking? They should get a third or fourth buddy to walk those public lands and push deer into their land. Works very well for us. Awesome video anywways!
Illegal in Michigan, any chance you’re in Pennsylvania? Only times I’ve heard of people driving deer is from Pennsylvania seems more of a cultural thing there
I literally just started thinking about future deer camp for my kids..might just have to go with a tent and public land because of the ridiculous cost of land let alone the cost of the habitat improvements shown here..
I recently got to visit the childhood camp that I spent every summer when I was a kid. Very similar situation. Boarders a national forest. The cabin was smaller than this one. Walls and roof collapsed. Junk truck and tailer in the yard. It breaks my heart, but another family member owns it and nobody wants to do anything for the fear of putting in the effort of rebuilding it and then not having any rights to it. It is a sad situation.
We had a spot like this in utah my grandpa bought it when he came back home from WW2 and the family and freinds hunted it untill utah changed the way they issued tags from over the counter to a draw system and it was almost impossible to draw a tag for our land we had just over 100 acres and we bought trespass permits from a rancher that had a couple thousand acres we wound up selling it to that rancher after nobody hunted it for several years
You got a wholesome family truly enjoying hunting , keeping a tradition going and you got a couple fools makeing stupid negative comments.... keep the negative shit to yourself, you're only making yourself look like a fool
The story ends by emphasizing the value of family heritage, hoping that the next generation will continue the tradition, just as the picture of the giant deer "Ralph" inspired the narrator as a child.
Curious. Is the wolf population high and if yes, did this issue come into your thought process to move forward? I ask, because we have a same situation in Northern Minnesota and the significantly increased wolf population has greatly impacted the dear population.
You made me think ,,i dont have any kids ,my brother has 1 ,my sister has 3 boys ,but none really are taking interest in huting so if thats the case my brother and I are the last to be hunters from my dads jeans,,hunting is becoming the last dieing bread
The Heavens and Earth are only around 6000 yrs old. The only thing you need to do next, is to accept the LORD JESUS CHRIST as your savior. John 3:16 Context 13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
It’s funny how lucky mark got that Steve picked him up. He has this deer podcast and nerds out but he actually sucks at hunting 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 man it must be nice to ride the coattail of your buddy Steve😂😂😂😂🤑❤
Living in Michigan is frustrating when all the good land is bought up from guys who might hunt it a week total out of bow, rifle, and muzzleloader. More people need to join the HAP land program. You get paid and not so fortunate hunters get a chance at something. State land is trash.
@@kylen1922 they all bought the land up here. Probably why there isn't as many hunters down there lol. Problem is they only come up for a weekend here or there and usually gun season. I'm a bow hunter. People with private land offer deer meat all the time. Instead of shooting there 15th deer they should let me hunt. We call them sharp shooters around here not hunters.
People like you destroy hunting for others. I guarantee they have more pride in those deer than anything you have ever shot. Who are you to judge what a trophy is to another hunter.
You are wrong. Ask any professional in the field or any hunter who consistently harvests mature deer outside of ag-country fantasy land and they would tell you you're flat out wrong.
Yeah, but you have to do what's in season or what you get tags for. In my home state, we get 2 extra months of deer season and some states like Missouri, you only get 1 tag with a firearm and 1 more with archery. This video was NOT about choice of weapon.
@@bluesteel8376and in my opinion (along with many others like me), rifle hunts are incredibly boring and uninspiring to watch. That’s why people make videos of both. You don’t have to watch archery hunts just like I don’t have to watch rifle hunts.
