The primary purpose of object avoidance is to avoid tangles that may damage the robot (in the case of shoelaces or cables), or pet feces being spread throughout the house via the robot. A pringles can or water bottle is a threat to neither. If object avoidance is too aggressive, then you have a robot that won't adequately get underneath a table full of chairs, or clean close enough to a table leg.
Tap and go, (provided it's not too hard) is still the best method to clean as close as one can to an object. I don't want my robot avoiding my pets, I'd like it to prod my pets to get up and move so it can clean under them.
My i3's just got updated to allow for map storage and labeling (no keep out zones, unfortunately). So I love that. But since I don't have object avoidance I do need to make sure my stays picked up. The fact that my robot WON'T avoid everything ensures that it is enabled to do it's job effectively.
However, I would love it to avoid cables and hairballs. But the i3 will never do that, so I'll have to wait until they wear out and I need to replace them before I get that functionality.
My J7 has impressed me with its workability and obstacle avoidance. I have never been a fan of the Roombas, but it has changed my mind. It just works every time! The tidy up function at the end it actually quite fun, as when you pick up the stuff on the floor and tell it you have completed the tidying up, it will go back and only vacuum those sections again. What I can say, is that I found things hidden below my furniture that I did not know was there, as its lower profile does get in underneath where my lidar robot would not go. I am therefore getting more coverage from the J7.
Out the three, the Roborock seems to still be leading the pack, but it does come at a high cost.
As mentioned on the other 2 previous videos, we need a white cable on bright floor, dark cable on dark floor and cables that are not rolled too, so just extend or partially. Nice testing anyway keep it up!!

Great test. Good to know it avoids the important things. A pringles can or a waterbottle is hard to get stuck under the robot :-) We use a J7+ at my office and it avoids all the cables people have hanging from their desks and leftover shoes flawlessly. At my office the floor is a dark short carpet and mostly dark cables so it works with dark objects.
Will this avoid cat puke?
iRobot was clear that they prioritized cables sand poop. I don't know if I care if it pushes some things around, just avoiding cables is fantastic (I have no pets). Also I have noted the shoe avoidance is perfect. In some cases I want it to push things out of the way and prioritize cleaning like if my bed sheets are hanging down to the floor, it just pushes through like the old one. Long time Roomba user so I still am in the habit of prepping before it's scheduled cleaning times. I've only had one issue so far where it did managed to grab onto a piece of paper that was on the floor and drag it around. But seriously, if you are going to vacuum by hand you either have to move things out of the way while you clean or before.
For me it runs right into lamp cords.
This front light never come off! Wow unbelievable.
It leaves too much space uncleaned around the white flat cable, a big big round area uncleaned.
We always remove all cables and shoes from the floors before the vacuum starts , prehistoric I know but still early for obstacles avoidance
Hey could you do the same test with the Neabot Nomo Q11? I'm quite curious to see how he'll do.
I love our roomba j7+ it avoids every obstacle that it can get stuck on only thing I wish it could avoid is water.
Wow I'm impressed by how the j7 looks so confident while avoiding cables and poops, unlike s7 maxv that looks confused when it sees a piece of poop or a cable.
I actually think the s7 was a bit better, but the j7 is very good.
did you even watch the test for the s7? because it looks like you didnt
@@xeon2k8 I did and I know it didn't touched anything. That's not I'm talking about. Roborock was look like turning around the obstacle and looking to it, trying to learn about it. This robot doesn't even look back after seeing an object once.

For sure roborock is better but for my needs j7 is good because my only worry is cables and small toys i never have Pringle cans or water bottles laying down on the floor and if i do and it hits it can’t really get stuck on it so it’s fine.
How are you able to get reviews? My j7 hasn't given me photos to review just boxes
When you run your test with the black cable, maybe also include a sock and maybe a t-shirt? Sounds like two items that could make their way onto a floor. Like a "sock under the bed".
Just got my S7 MaxV Plus yesterday, my poor S5 Max will be collecting dust - on top this time.
And poor Pringles can! :D

@@xeon2k8 Well, I only own the S7 MaxV. Was more thinking it was an interesting idea for a video comparing the 3 robots vs black cables, socks and t-shirts. I will test object avoidance myself in a bit when my 3 months old is not sleeping. So far I've done full apartment cleaning (without mop) and 2x clean + mop - looks as clean as with my S5 Max.
The biggest advantage so far has been not dragging a wet mop around everywhere when moving from one room to another since S7 MaxV can lift it.
@@rxappdev uff im dumb i thought the video was about the s7 maxv ultra, that's why i said that you had the same robot as the video (facepalm). I have the s7 plus and thinking to upgrade to the ultra but i will wait at some point when they release a kinda "s7 ultra" or smth like that because i dont need the objects avoidance. And agree the vibrarise is amazing.
@@xeon2k8 Lol, mistakes happen. :) I wanted object avoidance for when my kid starts throwing toys around the house as a safeguard. Also not having to remove the mop right away and auto-emptying the bin are nice upgrades over S5 Max for me. Not sure if I would upgrade from S7+.
The avoidance performance of J7 is even worse than Ecovacs X1 OMNI you tested couple days ago. Maybe J7 is just red-green blind.

Seems like the j7 hates tall objects. Definitely didn’t do as good as the other 2 with tall objects.

This and one other robot tied! There was one that got a score of 97%.

Ok I think this robot is very good in avoiding objects, but anyway his navigation is a real mess , too confusing imho

Seems iRobot still can’t see dark objects just like before… piece of junk 😂. You should try put a black obstacle. I’m very happy I did not make the mistake to buy an iRobot j7. That thing is sloooow
