    Which one should you buy?
    Ok, so we’re at the end of this comparison-still not sure which model is right for you? Depending on what exactly you’re looking for, you may find that one Roomba to edges out the others.
    The Roomba j7+ is the best pick if you’re looking for:
    Smart Membership: If you don’t want the initial stick shock of purchasing a Roomba outright, the Smart Membership is a great option. Get all the benefits of a robot vacuum, at only $29/mo. as well as the ability to upgrade your robot every 3 years.
    Less maintenance: The 60-day capacity of the dust bin is double the capacity of the i7 or the S9. This means less time tending to your Roomba.
    Obstacle avoidance: Obstacle avoidance is another great feature of the j7. Especially if you have pets, this lets the vacuum navigate more intelligently while it’s cleaning.
    The Roomba i7+ is the best pick if you’re looking for:
    Lower cost: This model has the lowest price of all three. It does lack some features, like obstacle avoidance (j7 only), wider brushroll (S9 only), as well as a little suction power, but the cleaning performance was still on par with the other models.
    The Roomba S9+ is the best pick if you’re looking for:
    Faster cleaning cycles: Because the S9+ had a wider brushroll, that means it can clean the same amount of square footage in less time. If you want a vacuum that gets the job done faster, the S9+ is a nice choice.
    Most suction power: If you have carpets and lots of food traffic the extra high suction power may be worth the higher cost.
    D-shaped body: The S9 also has the D-shaped body style which poses some advantages for cleaning corners and edges.

    These tests should be done twice with similar dirt burdens.
    Success on any single target sample can be affected by the direction of approach to the target samples. i.e. from the front, top, left,s ide etc. depending on the grain or texture of the surface materials.

    Thank you for the good tests. I was just watching Vacuum Wars, but their carpet test ‘deep cleaning’ is for a timed 5-minute run over the same small space, which is very unrealistic. Most people would just run the robot vacuum in the default testing where it makes 1 pass (or more if it auto-senses added dirt).

    • @ModernCastle

      Yes, all of these models do great on tile, vinyl, wood, and really any indoor hard surface flooring.
      Hard surfaces are fairly easy for most robot vacuums when it comes to cleaning. It's the carpet performance where most robots struggle more.

Also i forgot to mention, yours was the ONLY vide that highlighted that iRobot would not function in the dark, so thanks a lot for that info, it's been missed in all specs . Although, :-( there goes my plan of waking up to clean kitchen/dining !!

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bin is something like 0.3 liters, so it won't hold much. You'll need to empty it a couple of times a week most likely (if you're running daily).
      If you put a couple of nightlights in the kitchen / dining that should be enough light to operate. It doesn't need much light, but it cannot be completely dark either.

    That’s interesting. How would you explain the slightly worse performance on carpet for the J7 ? What model should I go with ? My house is mostly hardwood except one big carpet in one room ( medium), one carpet ( medium) which is pretty small ( 16 sq ft), and a little rug in my kitchen. I‘m not sure if I should go with the i7 or J7 because many told me the j7 has a little bit less power. I have two cats but they are clean 😂.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly, the slightly worse performance of the j7 surprised me. I don't have any good explanation for it. Based on my understanding, the j7 is built on the same basic platform as the i7, so performance wise it should be identical.

      With that setup I'd go with the Roomba i7+ - amzn.to/2XpxU3C
      It's a small enough area that you really don't benefit from the advanced navigation from the j7+ and S9+.
      Since you have no pets, the obstacle avoidance is also less valuable on the j7+.
      i7+ covers all of your needs and it's the least expensive, so you'll save a little money.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should be able to at least do a contextual comparison before Christmas and I'll update it on this page moderncastle.com/roborock-vs-roomba/
      But I doubt I'll have time to do a video comparison.
      Ultimately it comes down to 2 factors...
      1) j7+ has obstacle avoidance, this means it gets stuck less and is a slightly better navigator as a result
      2) S7+ has a mopping attachment, being able to vacuum and mop at the same time is pretty awesome if you have any significant level of hard surface flooring
      Also, the j7+ is slightly better when it comes to cleaning carpets. Beyond that, they are both very similar high performance robots. Honestly, pretty hard to go wrong either way.

    Thank you for the great videos. Can you tell me what your best pick for a mop/vacuum robot would be for hardwood floors only (lvt). My pick right now is the roborock s7 without the automatic empty. And then upgrading to the bagless auto empty at some point. Looking at what’s coming, though, I’m wondering if I should wait or just get something cheaper before I invest that much into it. Other top picks include narwhal, the dreametech w10, or a combo of the braava m6 and roomba i7. I have about 1000sf to clean, pretty small.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My 2 favorites are the Roborock S7 (amzn.to/3sndaJt) with the auto empty dock and the Narwal T10 (amzn.to/2R7uFja).
      If you only have hardwood floors I would go with the Narwal. If you have any level of mixed floors I would go with the Roborock S7.
      The Roborock S7 and Narwal T10 are the 2 robots that I use as my personal daily drivers in my home, which is 100% hardwood / tile floors.
      Then I use the Roomba J7+ and Braava M6 as the 2 primary cleaners in my office / studio, which is a mix of carpet rugs, hardwood, and tile.

    • @MediumRareShorts
      @MediumRareShorts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModernCastle Hi, just wanted to give a my review of the Viomi V3Max. After 2 weeks, I'm very impressed with it. The navigation seems on par with most other modern robots I've seen. I've had zero issues setting up zones and schedules. The vacuuming and mopping have both been great. I have all hardwood floors, so mopping was a big deal. I've seen reviews on most every mopping robot and I think this one is competitive with any of them. The Y-mopping feature it has seems to work very well. I haven't seen any other robots with it. When you set a zone to be mopped twice, the robot will automatically go in alternating patterns, so they criss-cross with each other, and also do the y-mopping. It has been better at mopping than I am with a handheld mop. You can also mop and vacuum at the same time. The only downsides I have so far are that the dust tank and water tank are both relatively small compared to other robots. But that is not an issue for me because my place is only 1000sf. Also, they have an accessory for a 700ml water tank, which I bought, but it does not work. The robot won't recognize it as installed and won't run. I ordered another to see if that's an issue with all of them or just one. There are no other reviews for that item on Amazon, because I think they just started selling it. I've also had some issues with pet hair tangles in their brush. I would probably prefer an all-rubber brush like in the roborock s7, but they don't offer that option. Because I have no carpet, I've actually started running it with the brush completely removed and suction set to the highest power, and this has worked quite well for me.
      All in all, based on what I have seen in other reviews, I think this is a fantastic robot, and considering I got it for $300 brand new, I think it's pretty hard to beat in value. I'd love to see it reviewed by someone like yourself. If you're interested, I'd be happy to send you mine to try out.

      It will prevent the the robot from a poop-catastrophe and avoid other common objects as well. It just brings the overall usability to the next level.

    • @ModernCastle

      I'm familiar with Saltillo tiles living in Arizona (though I haven't owned a house with them). While the deep grout lines are indeed deeper, they aren't anything that any of these models would have trouble with.
      If you were going with a more traditional vacuum I'd suggest looking at one of the Dyson V-series with the soft roller head attachment. That soft roller head could better press into the deep grout line. See our comparison here - moderncastle.com/dyson-v15-vs-outsize-vs-v11-vs-v10-vs-v8/
