I really feel for you, in fact just reading your words in the description brought tears to my eyes, without even watching the video. But there is a fine line between helping and enabling. At some point, we each have to take responsibility for ourselves and our lives and that includes those with mental illness, as harsh as that may sound. I've spent my entire life from childhood taking responsibility for my own parents issues which also included mental illness, to my own detriment, because they wouldn't. I haven't lived a life that I truly wanted or lived up to my potential because I spent it trying to navigate the mess that was going on internally within me, first through distractions and bad habits to numb the hurt and then through healing and inner work. Boundaries are so important but so difficult to implement, especially when you have a big heart like you do. Forgiveness for ourselves is so important, even more than forgiving the other. Arohanui (much love). 🙏💚

Soooo much wisdom and honesty in what you share. I agree that it is such a delicate line (that is alwasy changing) of how much to help someone without enabling them, compassion for others while still giving ourselves compassion, making ourself a priority while supporting loved ones, and more. I sure hope that you are finding more time for you now!!!
I would like to offer you this just in case it helps in some small way depending on where you are with it all. I found many angels showing up to help in my father's life in the most unexpected ways - money came to him for city construction in his yard which helped with some bills, neighbors taking him to church, etc. It didn't feel like passing on the "problem" to them as much as I watched them light up because they were living their purpose. Maybe there are more angels around you to help than you know?!?!
Does Arohanui mean you are from New Zealand?!? That is one of my favorite places in the world. Living in Wanaka is a dream of mine!!!
Thank you for taking the time to write and share. I know there are people who are reading this who needed to hear your experience and wisdom!!!

@@jessicazemple thank you for your kind words. Sadly, my dad never had any angels showing up in his life... a long story (maybe I"ll right a book about it one day), but I do remember one occasion when he told me he never felt heard. That broke my heart. After my mum passed suddenly, I looked after him myself until his death some months later. I hoped it could be a chance for us to bond, but he was a victim of his mental illness, self-pity and stubbornness to the very end. I do have the utmost compassion for people suffering from mental illness, but I can't help but feel there is a spiritual aspect to it, that it is an affliction of the soul, more than the mind.
Yes, I am in New Zealand. I last visited Wanaka when I was 12, over 40 years ago. It was one of my favourite places too, no doubt it has changed a lot since then. The South Island is very beautiful. I hope you get to fulfill your dream!

When you ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart as Lord and Saviour of your life repent of your sins and be baptized for remission of your sins then you shall be saved by grace and the blood of Jesus Christ.
Ps.With love only as your sister in Christ. 😇🙏💜
