My OBGYN did not believe me when I said I had brain fog (I am 46 years old). He told me instead “I am worried about your mental health”. I was so shocked about his comment. I rarely go to the doctor, I don’t like going to the doctor so if I go see one it is for a good reason. Having peri menopause symptoms is reels and should not be denied.
Omg! I fell at work and hurt my shoulder and the male nurse practioneer told me 3x he was concerned with my anxiety about not sleeping because it is in your head, you need to calm down. After 2 more months of PT I said I was worse and got MRI at 13 weeks. I had 2 tears within the rotator cuff. I filed a formal complaint and the Medical Board said he did nothing wrong. 😢
You are THE BOMB!!!!!! Thank you Dr. Mary! You are so accurate! Our pain has to be validated!!! Ridiculous! I didn’t know about brain fog until today! I thought I was experiencing severe cognitive decline! And silently suffered!
Im only 15 mins in and Im SO grateful already for this video!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 serious brain fog and no libido are my only symptoms but the brain fog as been so severe i started to think at 54 i have early alzheimers 😢
Omg Marie Clare , I have 3 brothers. You lost 3 brothers?! 😣. I’m so sorry. This is such a wonderful, informative podcast. I see why you’ve gone crazy (good crazy) with nutrition. Thank you so much. And I DEFINITELY had brain fog and the estrogen helped.

That happened to me on my last child. I literally labored for 5 days. My son was bruised when he was born, from contractions. When I was having a c-section, I said, please give me something because (I can't recall now what it was, but it was serious). I wasn't listened to. I was later told, I was screaming and crying out. I was given something at that point, from what I'm told, because I don't recall anything. I reminded them, that I said I needed something for... The response was, but you didn't sound serious. I was so surprised that I wasn't believed because I had just labored for 5 days, my unborn sons heart rate was dropping and I was in the middle of an emergency c-section. Why couldn't I be believed, just because I sounded calm? I thought it was just me, so I'm glad I'm not the only person.
We are running out of estrogen-it affects our neurotransmitters-HELLLLOOOOO BRAIN FOG! I’m a speech language pathologist who is in perimenopause and now have executive functioning issues!!!! I’m so I’ll by our healthcare system. Dr. Mary THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so sorry about your brothers and dad, I lost my brother 2018, worst day of my life. I’m so glad I found you on utube , you’ve really helped me as I have just turned 52 🥴
I bought the Life Extension brand of L Threonate on Amazon and felt better right away. I'm waking up feeling more lucid and I have more energy. One of the worst things about menopause for me was brain fog and fatigue. It can't be a coincidence that I'm not as forgetful and annoyed as I was before taking this form of magnesium. Now I'm really overdue for a visit to the gyno due to the pandemic and a bit of procrastination. I'm hoping she can help me more but it really feels like the fog is lifting. I feel so stupid about not preparing for menopause. My regular doctor didn't do anything for me. She even forgot to include my d3 level in my last blood test. I have a feeling that watching more of Dr. Haver's videos is going to be very beneficial in helping me recover from this absolute misery of loss of energy, concentration, and just not feeling like the old me.
Thank you for pointing this out. I turned 50 in June and months before that I noticed I couldn't concentrate or remember anything. It's now October and I notice I can't remember many things. I can do the basic things but I can't even do things I used to do. I don't drink or smoke never have. Lord please help me.
Did not realize I was in perimenopause at the time and the heart palpitations were scaring me. My whole body moved involuntarily around my heart muscle. It felt so weird every time. Did not understand what was happening and neither did 3 doctors I discussed it with. So glad it all makes sense now.✌🏼❤️
Thank you for what yo❤❤❤u do to help women. I think more doctors should take your approach with being certified in nutrition. Makes total sense where the end goal is healthy eating then followed by supplements before jumping to medication. Keep doing what you are doing. Thanks again!
Love love LOVE your passion Dr. Haver! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us. So incredibly grateful. (Only disappointed that I live in Canada and can’t have you as my Doc.
I have different medical conditions which already come with brain fog and cognitive issues. In the past few months I almost feel like I'm dealing with a brain injury (I've had post-concussive syndrome more than 1x so I know what that feels like). I also have ADD, and so it's all really frustrating. I paused your video and emailed my new PCP right away to see if he'll rx HRT. I'm 54 and have been taking Estroven night time formula. It helps a little less lately. I can't exercise b/c I have severe MECFS, so it's a bit of a shit show. Luckily my weight is under control. Because of the MECFS (and pandemic) it's extremely hard for me to get to any medical appts, and haven't been to IRL primary care or OBGYN since late 2019 (virtual PCP, yes). I appreciate your video and also the emphasis that many women's complaints are "waste basket" complaints. Just look at the severity of debility of MECFS and lack of tx/research/funding to combat this devastating condition. Oh, btw, more women than men get MECFS (just proportionally). Thanks for taking the time for the info. I'm 54 and no one has offered HRT yet. 🤷♀ Haven't had a period since around March, I think. I've started to have more heart palpitations which I can't tell are POTSy or menopausal. My guess is it's probably a combo. Thanks again, it's very hard having compounding medical issues.
HRT helped me 80% and l-tyrosine helped me the rest of the way taking it morning and afternoon…plus I exercise, sleep well and eat minimally processed foods
You are such a fountain of knowledge! All this information is s helpful and makes us feel slightly more human! Thankyou so much for you suggestions, they're all so helpful xx
Hi, Thank you! 🗣We are obviously not believable 🙄😡. I have been healthy and fit all my life. Never had a problem with PMS and except for painful periods- my body has been like a clock. 4 children all born naturally. I am now in menopause, had my last period over a year ago. Going in to menopause totally changed my life! Night sweats was part of it, no sleep. But worst of all brain fog, I thought I had an early onset of Alzheimer’s. I even lost my job due to not functioning normally. That of course put extreme stress and did not help the symptoms at all. I finally found a good doctor that understood my problem and put me on HRT. I am functioning a lot better now (a lot) but, I have a problem with weight gain have had the same weight since 16. I do intermittent fasting about 16 hrs, and still the weight keeps creeping on. Still I do not feel like I use to. I feel low, no energy. Even though I am on the highest HRT dose. I want to feel normal again! Want my sexdrive back. Should I try testosterone?
I so relate to this, Anna. I hope Dr. Mary answers. I will say though that I have found IF to be helpful but if I wander out of “my zone” for just a couple of days, it’s like climbing back up a mountain.
I wished I had insurance that you accept I’m in Houston and I’m not yet on HRT and I’m needing it badly . I’m suffering from joint , bone issues , hot flashes, brain fog all that . I’m so over it .
I’ve been going threw menopause now for a year. It’s not fun. I’m only 46 and love watching you explain different things we can do. The magnesium you was taking about is there a current brand I need to get. I’m tired in the afternoon and I don’t sleep well.
Here in the UK we can get HRT for free. In my experience the GP was very supportive and suggested the Mirena coil and oestrogen gel, both of which are provided free of charge. The government issues a certificate which permits the pharmacy to dispense monthly oestrogel. I’m sorry to hear it’s not the same in the US.
@Mary Claire Haver, MD, Thanks so much for the very informative video! I have been on HRT for about a year now…it has been a lifesaver. I am also on Losartan/HCTZ for my blood pressure. That said, can I safely take a 250 mg magnesium citrate supplement? I look forward to your response.
For your list: Dr. Pattamokam in Ventura and Camarillo is an excellent menopause doc and also urogynecologist Dr. Takese-Sanchez in Ventura!! They are treating me and are sooo good!!
I've been going through multiple symptoms for over 20 years after my uterus was taken out. Even told my doctors my symptoms. Wanted my hormones checked, all she checked was estradiol. Growing hair 2 years after my uterus taken out. Finally going to a hormone specialist this summer even though I have to pay out of pocket cause my doctor has no clue about anything! I just use her to get my yearly blood work that she wants me to get. Also, I cannot fast, I get light headed, very hungry and almost pass out. There is no hope, lol.
Yes! I’m on combined continuous HRT and I’m in peri. I was on phone with a contractor the other day and when asked my address, I drew a blank! I’ve lived here for 12 years and couldn’t remember my darn address! This is one of many similar occurrences. It’s bad..depressing. It’s like I’m walking through life in a fog. When will this go away! HRT does not help this. I am very fit and eat low inflammation. I do IF.. I’m suspecting an adrenal issue.

I'm in the UK I was suffering alot, nobody told me about even the perimenopause it was not even a thing, but even when I was young I suffered from fainting with periods. I thought finishing periods would be great for me. It took me 4 yrs to get onto HRT cos I was going through terrible life symptoms but my doctor wouldn't give me HRT cos I had a lump in my breast, but luckily nothing. I've had depression all my life. Too many things to tell you, my father just died he's in texas of dementia. I cannot sleep at all. I think it's more I have lots of trauma in life. I'm trying to get out of it.
Great content- you are intense- man when u tap it looks and feels and sounds like you have a bat in your hand and ur abt to take off. Love your content.
what should I do? Menopause hit me like a ton of bricks at age 48, threw my thyroid out of balance for a whole year (hashimotos), gained a ton of unwanted weight really fast, at the same time discovered I have metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, pre-diabetes. I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE SICK IN MY LIFE! It's been going on for 3 years. I am on HRT, metformin, statin & synthroid. Healthy diet, intermittent fasting & exercise are helping some of the symptoms, but NOT enough to lose ANY weight or ANY of this belly! So what should I do? Just more healthy eating & exercise?
I am 54 shy of 55 in September 2022 and still get my period. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in August 2015 at 48 years old, 1 month shy of 49 years of age. My mother passed away the month prior, July 2015. I was hospitalized in a severe flare of my UC in March 2017, got a DVT blood clot April 2017, and have been on Warfarin since. So, I am a catch 22 patient, that in the height of Peri Menopause that cannot use HRT, leafy green, vitamin K because of blood thinners. I used to be a athlete, gym rat, and worked out all the time until my diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis. I have extreme symptoms of Peri Menopause on top of a chronic disease. Symptoms, fatigue, mood swings, period short and long, migraine with it, heart racing and slowing (Afib), bloating, and feel like some days are just out of control. So, I am that unique patient, and have to suffer. I am already higher risk of colorectal cancer from UC. I am checked routinely with colonoscopies.
@@maryclairehavermd8473 I wish I was in Texas to see you. I live in Boston, MA. I am so glad I came across your videos. They are spot on and made me feel better. I knew I wasn't going crazy, but feel like it sometimes. Love your videos and continue to talk about this subject. I have told my daughter because it is not talked about at all. It's your in peri menopause and then your period will stop for 12 months and then your in menopause. Thank you for what you do!!
I had all sorts of tests done for Alzheimers - that is how bad my hrain fog has been! 🤣 Does it get better once one is 'through' menopause? If there is such a thing!
@@cald3216 I also feel very embarrassed when I forget things! I have started intermittent fasting 2 days ago and am going back to really watching what I'm eating! I had become soooo bad! Eating total rubbish as I had got so despondent! Listening to Dr Marie-Clare has given me some hope that it can be reversed! Hope you get some inspiration too from her videos?
Hi ! You say excess Estradiol in the brain causes brain fog but then go on to say it is due to declining Estrogen? I’m on HRT but am experiencing brain fog
Not strong enough. You can use them to supplement but overall they don't do what is needed. I know compounding pharmacies are probably stronger. Everyone is so different. You need strong Progesterone and Estradiol.
I had a moment a week ago where I looked at my son and was like "Oh yeah, he has braces". My anxiety has been so bad it's been so it's making it so much worse. I have an appt with my OB next Friday. I hate it! You mentioned not to do HRT with liver disease. Does that mean "fatty liver"?
So, my mom is 82, African-American, has had 5 kids. Long story short. A surgeon gave her a full hysterectomy including fallopian tubes at about 80.5 years old. She has always looked about 20 years younger than her age even right before the surgery. Well after the surgery she aged very quickly and she feels like she is dying. Not only is her hair thin, skin extremely lax and wrinkling, but she has anxiety, balance issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, brain fog, and emotional. Doctors will not refer her for bioidentical HRT or any HRT because "it could cause cancer". She is in Las Vegas. Can she get a telephone appointment with you?
My heart goes out to your mom. I hope you can find the right doctor who can give her what she needs to be well. There is a doctor out there. Don’t give up!
I am 48. I have been having issues since 35. They said I was too young. I have endometriosis and in perimenopause. I can’t take birth control. I was taking progesterone. It isn’t working. I have done watching my food. I have lost 11 lbs. My cycle is not stopping. I’m so tired of hearing spotting is normal. It’s not normal and I feel bluh.
Why aren't on you Estradiol? It works together with Progesterone. Look into Shepherds purse online and other herbs /homepathy for the spotting/bleeding. You need a lot of tools in your arsenal.
Peri menopause has been like the nail on the coffin for me, especially with my Adhd. And nobody talks about these things in my country!

The government issues a certificate which permits the pharmacy to dispense monthly oestrogel free of charge. I’m sorry to hear it’s not the same in the US.
I'm in uk. I didn't know that. How can I go about that please?
Depth perception and balance issues
Yes.
Yes
Dr has HRT improved your anxiety and depression?
Can I start hrt in post menopause? I’m 65 and healthy but have brain fog and do t sleep well.

At what time of day do your take Magnesium L-Threonate? Before bed? As always a brilliant & informative video. Thank you 🙏🏻
I feel like a have dementia it’s that bad please help ?? I’m on her and gel it’s not helping my brain fog 😮
Can menopause be affected by having a micro pituitary adenoma? How can HRT help if you are estrogen dominant that led to fibroids and endo.?
Get on DIM... then see how you go.. you could utilize the Estradiol and Progesterone whilst on DIM and Magnesium. Lower dose of Estradiol
what should I do?
Wow! Big hugs to you.
Hi DR Haver , can you please link the supplement form Amazon ( Zinc) you mentioned? Thanks 🤗
I had all sorts of tests done for Alzheimers - that is how bad my hrain fog has been! 🤣 Does it get better once one is 'through' menopause? If there is such a thing!
I have the same brain fog
It’s absolutely horrible and embarrassing
Almost cost me my job
I wonder what we can do
@@cald3216 I also feel very embarrassed when I forget things!
Me too
No it won't get better. Take hrt. That will help
Sleep! What’s that? I no longer sleep as a result of menopause 😢
Hi ! You say excess Estradiol in the brain causes brain fog but then go on to say it is due to declining Estrogen? I’m on HRT but am experiencing brain fog
Mary Claire, what are your thoughts about bio identical hormone replacement therapy? Thank you
She’s on the E patch and oral P. I am too.
Not strong enough. You can use them to supplement but overall they don't do what is needed. I know compounding pharmacies are probably stronger. Everyone is so different. You need strong Progesterone and Estradiol.
Can you start HRT at 56 of age? You mentioned why is a 70 yr old still on HRT. Can I start HRT at 56 and continue for how long?
I had trouble with Word finding
What can I do if I can't take estrogen
How long do you stay on HRT? Does insurance cover it?
how do I know if my estradial patch is high enough??
Can you start HRT at 56 of age?
Texas is about to be the statistic State for the longest living and most healthy women in history in about 20 years.
I had a moment a week ago where I looked at my son and was like "Oh yeah, he has braces". My anxiety has been so bad it's been so it's making it so much worse. I have an appt with my OB next Friday. I hate it! You mentioned not to do HRT with liver disease. Does that mean "fatty liver"?
magnesium l-threonate
Hope you were able to find help for your mom ❤
Surgery like that on an 82 yr old!!! Omg! What an unethical doctor. Sounds like the doctor needed to be paid for an unnecessary surgery. Despicable!
My speech is gone aswell can’t talk it’s awful 😢
How do I integrate the diet into daily meals for my husband and 28 year daughter that also need to lose some weight?
