Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I really like the format of the video, its so dense with good info. Based on this im sure a boy will suit me better :)
I totally agree with your assessment. I've had several breeds over my life; shown, trained and bred - and every breed I've had, the males have been easier to live with. Which is not to say I haven't had some amazing, loving and adorable girls over the years, but generally, I will take a male dog over a female every time. Our current crew is two male Golden Retrievers and one amazing Whippet boy nearly 8 months old. They all get along very well, though the Whippet puppy plays a bit too hard for my gentle Goldens some times. He is a tough little rascal in the house until we go out in public and then he clings to my legs like a big baby!
Bless the Goldens for enduring this whippet puppy's energy levels 🙈 But in one year from now, once he matures, you'll barely notice you have a 3rd dog (whippet) 😄
I love your sense of humor! We have a female whippet and our son has a male whippet and I would say they each have a nice mix of all the boy/girl traits you mentioned. But, we always say that our girl can be cat like at times. She likes doing things on her terms and she is definitely the boss when they are together. Lol
Lovely! I think your channel is the lovelies channel on the youtube, Addie. I have to pause the vid to laugh because your comments, your to the point descriptions are so amusing 😂❤ Do you have anything to share about talkative whippets? My experience is that either the individual is silent (phew) or the individual learns to talk and then you never get a second's silence ever again especially if the individual is a opinionated character. 😅
It means so much to me that you enjoy the channel! Thank you ❤️ I couldn't agree more. Once a talkative whippet - never a quiet whippet 😆 By a complete coincidence, I'll be posting a short video of some talking whippets tomorrow.
Great video...my boy Winx has no pain tolerance and alittle dramatic at times but he has the best facial expression's and variety of ear placement has my husband and I LOL all the time ❤...we feel blessed that we share our life with him ❤ xxxxxxxx
❤ Thank you for this wonderful video. I had thought my female 'tiger' whippet was extremely dominant, but your equating the females to female hyenas makes me feel less anxious that i caused her to be like this. She would literally face up to Auld Nick (the devil) and not back down. Getting her to tolerate other dogs is still a work in progress but one I'm more than happy to do.
I love your wry sense of humor and your ability to put words in their mouths, or thought bubbles overhead. 😆 How would you say Erys fits the typical female traits and how does she differ? She’s been so good at adapting to her pack members preferences. Has she caused any drama, such as you described? Keep the wonderful content coming Addie, I so enjoy your channel.
Erys is an easy child and prefers to stay away from conflict. She just wants to have fun and be loved. But her moods sometimes, oh my... 😆 If we are outside and I don't let her go to a particular dog she finds interesting, her happiness melts like ice cream in the hot sun. Then I must go above and beyond to motivate her to focus on something else and be happy again 😅 I've never had this issue with a whippet boy.
Whippets are my absolute dream dog. I'm currently not ready to have a dog, but one day I will have one of these cuties. 🥺 Until then I love watching your videos and learning more about the breed.
We had a female whippet for 15 years she was amazing then we got a boy whippet and he has been even more loving affection easy going and so easy to train ! Love them both but I will only have a male now in the future !
I can only accept those things that you are saying, after i got a whippet, before it sounded strange :) My boy puppy, doesn`t want to go for a walk outside, if I am going alone with him. When kids join also for walk, then he`s is totaly fine and have no issues at all, otherwise he will just take a quick pee and walk only if it`s headed back to home :)
OK...I haven't listened yet... For me {Pedigree Whippets} Boys: Very loving. Want to please. Easy. Girls: More determined, stubborn, and wilful ,bossy... {But in a humorous way} -Good hunters. ..Both sexes are lovely. Will be interesting to see what the video says ! {Going to listen now}
Your viedos are always helpful for my research and confirmation that whippets are going to be a good fit for us and it was a female whippet that made me interested in the breed! They live for the drama of it all and can be so theatrical (especially around meal time for the girl i knew). As a former theater kid i appreciate their skills as actors. Great video with great clips of examples XD
Hi, I love my Whippets. I have a boy and a girl. Your description is just perfect. My boy is so happy and easygoing, but a bit dramatic. My girl is more dominant, tough and independent, but so cute. We have decided a while ago that from now on we're going to have only boys 😊. Thank you. Kisses from Brazil
I liked having a breeding pair the most. Their affection for each other was beautiful. My boy was a velcro dog and my best buddy, my girl was a serious-minded hunting hound. She was tremendously affectionate but more independent. I also really enjoyed raising whippet puppies. My sire was a very loving father, and my dam seemed to really enjoy being a mum. Their pups had an amazing temperament, easy to train, very outgoing, no timid pups.
Do your dogs mark at home or when visiting friends? I really want a male whippet, and that's the only thing stopping me :( Haven't found much info on it (and all the dogs I've had have been females).
When Brady was intact, he used to mark in the house occasionally only when we had girls in heat. 9/10 times, boys that live on their own or with no girls in heat around, never mark in the house. 😊
we love our precious 4 month old girl 🥺 my partner’s family have 2 whippets - a girl and a boy and their affection tolerance seems reversed from what you mention in the video 😂 that’s why i wanted a girl! our girl is very loving but I do see that she is less tolerant of a fuss. now I can’t wait to get a boy too 💕
See? There can ways be exceptions 😄 After all, they may have individual temperaments and preferences, depending on various factors, regardless of gender.
@@ShowPaws You make a very good point about only buying from a good breeder {NEVER online via adverts} So often I see ''Whippets'' that clearly are not pedigree Whippets- but crosses. Essentially these are 'Lurchers'. The owners never got any registration papers. One I met yesterday had bull terrier in the mix{!!} -a broad head and very muscled and bites at his owner a lot. {WHY cross a Whippet with a Bull terrier... } When buying a pedigree Whippet, it's good to go via a Whippet Club, and it's a very good sign if the breeder asks 101 questions - a good breeder cares where their puppies go, and hopefully will want to stay in touch. Health and temperament first- If the puppy grows into a potential show dog with lovely conformation and movement, that's a bonus!
With senior whippets, I let them decide. Some have more energy, others prefer peace and quiet, chill walks and a bit of running. I allow them to choose their pace and I adjust to their needs. 😊
I've had both male and female at the same time along with a mixed breed Brussels Griffon...two years ago I lost all 3 due to old age... anyway ... with 3 dogs 2 males one female there was a difference in personality, my female as loving as she was was the alpha in the pack big time and my boys knew to always be careful not to upset the female she wasn't mean so to speak but the boys were mindful around her. I have a new girl now an only dog and she has a totally different personality very easy and gentle no isuues about being in charge just goes with the flow around other dogs. I do believe though the males are more layed back in general my new girl is very easy going it may be though she's an only dog, not sure, it could be she doesn't have to position herself in a pecking order?
It's possible that it's because she is an only dog, but it could also be that she is just more mellow. Our youngest Erys is similar. She just wants to have fun and be loved, doesn't challenge anyone, but definitely understands the other girls are to be respected, while the boys will tolerate her no matter what she does 😅
Yes, I've had 2 girls that come in heat only once a year. Jamie is one of them. I have some that come in every 6 months and others that have heats 7-8 months apart.
❤one each ... in a couple of years ... humane society... we have many here on Kauai... our dogs track wild boar... I just want a companion... HALF CHILL / HALF ZOOMIE HIGH ENERGY... although if I was a dog I would be a Rhodesian Ridgeback ... But the best all around dog to own is the Labrador ... shaloha

Sounds like a typical girl! 😄 But regardless, both girls and boys are such fantastic buddies ❤️
My female whippet is very cat like or even like a goat in the way she walks on the back of my couch. I've never seen any other breed act like this

how much exercize does a 9 year old whippet need, 1-2 mile walks or do they still need to sprint?

I really cannot tell the difference between a female whippet and a human female when it come to the behaviour discribed.
🤣🤣🤣 I won't confirm or deny...
Female can be dramatic ❤ yes! My whippet girl: @furia.whippet
