Aside from how good the Whippet specific content is here.. I have to say you are one of my favorite content creators i have EVER seen on TH-cam about any topic. I love your completely unpretentious, laid back conversational style, and the dry humor you deliver in every video is a true talent.
This is one of the best, if not the single best, dog breed videos I’ve seen. This is surprisingly entertaining, based on experience-based facts about what is best for the human AND dog, and is so insightful there’s no doubt it will be invaluable to those who are considering whether a whippet is right for their next 12-15 years: it spells out exactly what life will be like and what it needs to be for the sanity and happiness of the dog and human. My favorite quote stressed the importance of considering not only whether the dog was right for the human, but whether the human was the right fit for the whippet. I, personally, fell in love with the breed and liked the video so much I subscribed. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
It’s spot on. Went for some lessons with a stern puppy trainer emphasising how you must teach your puppy where to sit, where to go, do this, do that… this trainer would have made a hopeless whippet owner.
Haaaa….Omagosh I feel like you’re living in my house with my whippet…in every aspect! Thanku for posting because they are not like any other breed I’ve had…they are MYSTICAL LIKE 😂
Hi Addie, your videos are great - thank you! I am considering a whippet but have two questions raised from your videos. I wonder if you could help, please? 1) I travel sometimes for work and would plan to share the whippet with my parents that he will know well (and see for a few hours every day) in their home. Would he be happy with this arrangement? 2) I have a small enclosed garden but would take him to a dog park at least twice per week for a good, safe run. Is this enough for him to be happy?
This is the reason I couldn't bear to breed a Litter- finding worshipping homes is not easy. Whippets are incredibly sensitive - more ''feline'' than canine in many ways- My Mum has never liked dogs- but loves my Whippet, because of her gentle, feline nature.
I love your videos Addie, they are so well observed. Our two handsome boys also wake us in the middle of the night to cover them back up, they also want to take part in everything you are doing and look at you with eyes that make you feel you have done something wrong. Before being whippy parents we travelled the world, 43 cruises to be honest, whereby now we only travel where we can take the boys, we don’t trust anybody else to look after them and know their unusual behavior!! More importantly they are the Centre of our world and can’t imagine life without them. Keep the videos coming so everyone can see just how lucky we are to be whippet servants ❤️
I completely understand, as it's almost impossible to own whippets and not realize your heart and soul belongs to them, and your whole lifestyle is adjusted as per their needs and wants ❤️😅
I think "a sense of humor" goes along with "patience"! So true about the running also. I just moved to a place with no yard so I've had to be creative in finding ways and places to let my whippet run. I feel terribly guilty for bringing her to a place with no yard but she is adapting well because she still gets chances to run several times a week. I would love a video on puppy socialization if you are looking for ideas!
I agree! These drama clowns need to be surrounded by people with a sense of humor! Kudos for being creative and finding a solution, as some people wouldn't even try, unfortunately. And I've added the video idea to the list 😊
it took almost two years before my Whippet finally was potty trained..she still once every few months will go on/near the wee wee pad...it took a lot of patience on my part but I'm greatful we finally got there.
That's interesting- My girl if the weather is bad will still very occasionally do a wee indoors on a hard floor - she really hates doing a wee in the garden in the pouring rain, even with a coat on...Her litter sister is the same! {lives with someone else} - it seems to be a thing that some {But by no means all!} Whippets and Italian greyhounds do occasionally in bad weather.
Same as what Oakleaf said. Pouring rain by default means we'll be wiping the floors. Not all of mine do it, but some definitely don't go through the "discomfort" of using the outdoor bathroom in very bad weather.
Painfully true 🙈🤣 Must say the permanently-on-howliday-in-practice-domestic doodle has worked wonders on my self-esteem. Post whippet Diva my self-esteem what dags are concerned was well and truly below zero. Thanks for another greyt video, Addie!❤
@@ShowPaws It is! She gets the full whippet treatment and shockingly enough she seems happy and content!😯 And the good thing is that I get my duvet for myself at night! 😂Which is lovely, btw.😁
Live The channel, goog info. I have a mixbreed 7 years old and we have lived together For a year. Love My dog WHO acts like a whippet. And i'm trying to a good "James". I had before a german shepheard. Different but we are Happy ♥️
lovely video! the “fun” section gave me a good laugh. My girl likes to play with my legs while I am on the sofa, moving flirt poles for little whippets. I am curious to know how you keep your whippets happy in hot weather? It’s getting very hot here and we had a scary moment yesterday where our girl started overheating. I'm going to check if you already have a video on this 👀
I think you have my house bugged!!! Everything you said is true in my home!!❤❤ I am with the earlier commenter...what can you do to keep the satiated but not make them fat!?
Im just gonna start handing out a card with this videos link when people tell me in the street "omg i love these dogs I want one" I would add too like you have to be creative to be a whippet owner they get bored easily so I always have to find new ways or toys to stimulate that like traingle brain so i can have time to do other thing or between her naps
Very true! They need "action", especially when they are younger. And yes, sadly everything is so quickly accessible nowadays, people find it easy to just want something and get it impulsively. This also includes dogs and is one of the main reasons so many end up unhappy and/or rehomed.
There is a video that always makes me want to cry..... 'Whippet acts like a statue'....It is awful..the poor boy is so harshly treated by his male owner. ..His 'crime'? To go down a bin and spill a few bits of clean paper. ...The Whippet looks genuinely sad and afraid...and is banished to his bed. 😭
I've never come across this video before, but it wasn't easy to watch, knowing how sensitive they are. Useless and completely unnecessary behavior from the owner. Poor boy!
@@ShowPaws It was very sad...I want to reach through the screen to rescue him! Also interesting how comments had been 'disabled'. ..I commented saying that he was far too harsh on his Whippet- My friend who bred my girl came back to a hallway full of shredded dog beds- her 6 month old Puppy is a bed shredder- and the others must have joined in.. She sent me a photo of relaxed Whippets amongst the carnage of bed stuffing...No one got told off. The Puppy is obsessed with Donut beds- he was trying to drag one through the dog flap to take it in the garden to shred! He is being exported to New Zealand in August - He will be missed.
Excellent video. I can't wait to get one of my own. Although I am a little concerned about some of these factors on this list. I do travel and am away from home most of the day. 😬

I would love to see a video on ideas for games/fun with your whippets (bonus if they are doable for puppies/at-home)!

you said it all 😁 every word is true. Wish everyone had your approach to being the right human to have any dog, especially whippet and sight hounds

Great video, Addie. It's all so true, and your sense of humour is superb.
Love her sense of humor as well! 😂
Loved this and so true to our delightful girl. A video on keeping them so slim please, as ours is scavenger!!
Added to the list! 💞

@@ShowPaws What Whippets need of course....Is an indoor loo !
Where they can squat in comfort, and then the human can simply flush the waste away
Maybe you could design the perfect indoor ''Whippet bathroom''
So true!
Thanks, Addie, for another great, and true, video. Yes, I am owned by three whippets and they know it, we ARE their servants!😅❤

What i got from this video is that sighthounds are all the same, and we were only designed to serve and clothe them.
Hahahaha yessss, so true! Sighthounds were made to make people serve them and it suits them so well 😆
