This DL1000 clutch basket has only done 6,000 miles from new. Here we show free play between the clutch basket which holds the clutch plates and the hub of the primary drive gear driven by the engine. This movement is taking place with evey fire of the engine and shows up as a harsh engine vibration somewhere between 2,000 and 2,800 rpm in all gears. It's become known as the "chudder" (part shudder, part chatter). Pulling the clutch lever a little to take up all the free movement as you pass through the chudder can reduce it to nearly nothing. Don't pull enough to let the clutch slip. Just to the point it's about to. If the vibration annoys you plenty but dies down to an acceptable level with this test, then your clutch basket and whole riding experience will benefit from a modification. www.vstrom.info...

Suzukis new clutch basket for DL 1050 engines from 2020 onwards are now good and do not require modification. There is no need to modify old baskets. Buy new and get the new springs and gears. They are backwards compatible so fit all 2002 to 2024 engines.
