The Reaper crits in Elden Ring are one of my favorite mechanics, I love it so much
they look SO good too, the strong cut in and then yanking it out is so satisfying

In ds2 they had a riposte animation like the one they got now but ds2 was probably the game with the worst scythes at least for PvP

Fun fact: The Bone Scythe from DS2 has a reverse hitbox, so it's much easier to hit the sweet spot than all the other weapons except the silver sickle

That is far from the truth, and a scythe does not make a good weapon(please see Skallagrim’s history behind the Scythe) The scythe was not popular in ancient times(definitely not as a weapon), a scythe is meant for harvesting hay, and it only became widespread for agricultural use in the Carolingia Era when it became important to harvest and store hay for livestock during winter months.
Now, if we are talking about the WAR SCYTHE, then yes! lol that was a weapon fashioned by medieval peasant across European cultures, during uprisings, examples of this are shown through many culture; Polish, Czech, Lithuania, Romania, and many other European countries.
@@xXLunatikxXlul did you even read what i wrote? It does not come froms “culture” it comes from the lack of money or power. A war scythe is a name given from archeological finds. It was never called that in the time of use. It was just a scythe with its blade Bent up, it was not an actual weapon.
@@xXLunatikxXlul also the weapon youre talking about are “modern” scythe weapons, as in used within the last 200 years. But the one in the game (presmuably) is the kind im talking about. As in the weapon from the medieval time.
Friede's Scythe is my favourite toy to bully basically everything in this game. Hopefully we have a similar Reaper in the DLC.

You see in Poland during for example Kościuszko's incurection, peasants would use "kosy przekute na sztorc" (translates to more or less scythes reforged to face forward) so scythe where blade would be pointed forward so you can stab and have anti cavalry weapon, or use the blade to cleave throught enemies. It actually was quite a good weapon that was also used in other uprisings.
It also to this day have symbolism in polish culture, for one of most well known examples of it used as symbol i think we can look at i believe 303rd raf regiment during ww2 if i am not mistaken.
Yeah it was literally in the name "War Scythe" its not just a "Scythe" but a modified one that works much better for combat

Not to mention, dual wielding scythes in ER has a badass moveset

In my version of Dark Souls 2, I can infuse and buff EVERY weapon, with the exception of the key to the embedded. Even boss or twinkling titanite weapons.
Yeah, I always loved that about DS2, You could literally create a Lightning Moonlight Greatsword if you wanted to lol, I only played SOTFS edition so idk if that's just something you can do on that version or if that's a thing on DS2 in general, Either way I had a blast with it lol

It's funny how War Scythe from Demon Souls is actually what it's called and in Dark Souls there is a Bardiche called Scythe and Glave called Halberd, especially since War Scythe is less common as a weapon in media

I just played a soulsborne gauntlet trying new builds just before elden ring dlc. I beat ds1 faster than I ever have before and Holy cow that scythe playthrough is so op lol. When I switched to the lifehunt it was even crazier. Never had an easier manus fight lol

I’m a bit mad that the internet has a weird obsession to the game, calling it the best thing ever since sliced bread and saying that it’s BY FAR the best From game.
I stand by feeling mad at this… however despite this and the fact it has very few weapons… the weapons it has have SO MUCH PERSONALITY!
Mastering the movesets of the Burial Blade and Moonlight make you fight like a in-game boss! So much potential to dance!
And Burial Blade also gets a lot of points for “fixing Bloodborne”. The “regain hp mechanic” is horrible and I much prefer to just not get hit… except with the Burial Blade.
The burial Blade has the highest HP recovery so you actually can fight more aggressively and survive.
Of course I’m not saying only Bloodborne has personality. Frieda’s scythe was the example of making DLC weapons “COOLER” than base game.
And Elden Ring’s Halo is one of many weapons that “Completely break the game”.
Summon the D-eater puppet to take agro, spam weapon art, even the Elden Beast with 99% holy resistance will die!
I typically pair the Grave Scythe with Phantom Slash - for me top 10 weapon in regards to fun factor

Reapers are underrated. In ds2 i tried to find a underrated weapon that nobody uses that i liked. I run a great scythe and shotel. Both under performing weapons but ive had the easiest time. I never use the shotel its just weighing me down tbh but the reaper is a halbred but faster. Doesnt hit as hard but the recover animation is almost instant. Its amazing once i got used to the moveset.
I think Elden Ring infusioble scythes should've been higher on the list just because arcane exists, and you can increase both damage and status buildup at the same time, not to mention that you can put poison mist on them and it builds up very fast along side bleed
I remember loving the Winged Scythe back in the day, but then I found the Halo Scythe and dumped it
Halo scythe is incredibly high. It’s ash of war is great but it’s dual scaling makes makes it damage feel lackluster compared to the grave scythe and the way to actually get the weapon is very frustrating and annoying having to fight rotted knights with the scythe in hand either in caelid or haligtree at a 1% drop rate. Grave scythe also has a 1% drop rate but you farm it from ez pz skeletons in very easy sections compared to caelid swamp or haligtree.
At first I came expecting burial blade at number 1, but by your criteria yeah, the burial blade got done dirty with that split damage, scaling and being unbuffable. I feel the same for the blades of mercy
I used Corvian Scythe iin pvp and i didn't even know it could bleed my LMAO
I think Lifehunt should be #2. Even if Great Scythe generally outclasses it, Lifehunt is still basically a Great Scythe that can't be buffed, but has stronger bleed.
Corvian Scythe is an okay weapon, but Lifehunt is the 2nd best weapon in DS1 behind the Great Scythe.
The triple bladed scythes that we see scattered throughout Radahn's battlefield better be in Shadow of the Erdtree, or Miyazaki is going on the Reaper's hitlist.
If you count Lies of P's puppet reaper as well, it would be in like top 5 haha.

Burial Blade is the best in my opinion not is it a pretty cool curved sword in its base state but R1 will turn it into a scythe of course, but it has good speed and it just sounds super cool just makes that "sheeeeeng" noise.
It's a bit weird to complain that Friede's Scythe doesn't get bleed damage when it gets frost which is arguably better in DS3. It also behaves differently than other scythes because you get bonus damage if you hit with the blade instead of getting a damage penalty if you don't hit with it.
All the other scythes can get both bleed and frost whereas friedes only gets bleed. Also even account for damage penalties the friedes still gets the worst dmg out of all scythes
I still remember 12 years ago or something like that, when EpicNameBro released a video were he declared The Great Scythe as the best Dex weapon in Dark Souls, and he got alot of shit because of it. I might not agree that it is the BEST, but it sure is one the best.
Friede's Scythe is amazing for killing....Friede. You can stunlock her for ever with that thing. She basically can do nothing.
This list is so valid except the lifehunt scythe, it really shreds almost every boss, it kills way faster than the great scythe
Maybe against the few bosses that can be bleed out but even then great scythe would still be better. Way more damage, range and no health penalty
I had a hell of a dual scythe build in ds2. Won many many battles. Don't know why peps rip on 2 so much
It's so cursed that DS2 has so many cool scythes but the sweet spot and pathetic damage makes it so infuriating tbh.
Idk why people keep calling the damage pathetic, the scythes hit REALLY hard with the sweetspot. The Scythe of Want was one of my favourite weapons for PvP, because it's moveset diversity made it godlike for rollcatching, and I'm pretty sure it had some of the highest backstab/parry damage in the game
@@georgiykireev9678 cool this list is about pve though and the sychtes eat stamina in a single hit and the sweet spot it extremely annoying to manage with the varying ranges the attacks have.

DkS2 scythes were just disappointing, for the most part. But I did enjoy using the Silverblack Sickles on a Hexer build.
I felt they were better than DS1 scythes, at least their movests felt like they made sense unlike the DS1 scythes. The light attacks COMPLETELY ruin the two weapons for me. It's only made worse by the fact that the Lifehunt Scythe's moveset is NOTHING like how Pricilla uses the weapon.
It's feels like I'm mining for diamonds and not harvesting my enemies' souls.

I hate the moveset for the Elden Ring reapers honestly. For pve they are fine, but awful for pvp against most weapon types. Halo Scythe is my favorite, but using it in pvp is so impractical

Placing Friede's scythe this high feels kind of wrong. It has bad range, bad damage, can't be buffed or infused, bad moveset, horrible stat requirements, that make it very inconvinient to pick up, and the L2 light-attack is borderline useless against manny bosses and even some regular enemies. The only thing it has going for it is the L2 Heavy.

Halo scythe is fantastic…If you can abuse the RNG gods to actually have it drop for you.
Independent of how meta good they are, I think with each game they got better on the flavor and feel of the weapons and wielding them up until elden ring where they took a little step back. Dark souls got better than demons souls, dark souls 2 got better than ds1 etc.

I'm not a fan of the DS1 Great Scythe or Lifehunt Scythe, I find the moveset to be the dumbest looking shit possible. I'm trying to reap my enemies soul, not mine for fucking diamonds. This is only made worse by the fact that the one boss who has a scythe weapon uses it like you expect a scythe to be used as a weapon in a fantasy game, not whatever the hell those light attacks are (there was no excuse when Pricilla uses her scythe well). It's been a while since I played DS3, but I forgot how good the Reaper weapons sounded.
I feel that DS2 got the moveset for Scythes better, the Burial Blade perfected it (my#1 scythe), however DS3 and ER grounded it to something more fitting of a weapon class. My ranking would be the two DS1 scythes at the bottom because the light attacks are a fucking travesty to scythes as a fantasy weapon, they're just irredeemably bad IMO and ruin what could be some fun weapons.
