Duke is one of the schools I will be visiting. As an older person who is an introvert, I'm going to take in person learning. I don't think that I will make friends since I'm older, and the photos show only young students, but at least I will have interaction in class. I started taking conversational Japanese during the pandemic on Zoom, and once class is done, I will do written homework, but do not speak a word until the next class. Since Thai is a tonal language, I will need to be in person to hear the words clearly. I already have trouble accurately hearing things and having to ask conversation partners to write the word in the chat box. With a tonal language, it will be very difficult. Plus it will make me leave home and use the Thai I have learned. Yes, I am that student who asks a lot of questions, but it isn't my fault that the instructor gives long answers lol. Thanks for this video. It made me realize that I will be making the right decision to go in person.

I think you will like Duke and the taster lesson they provide will give you a good idea of how lessons are taught, be prepared to answer and participate though! I noticed when we had some trial students, they didn't realise they would be asked questions too and were shocked. I'd also say the school has a range of ages in classes so I wouldn't completely rule out having someone your age etc.
I agree with you, given Thai is tonal I think being in-person is much better because then you can really hear what people are saying and the teacher can help you with your own tones etc. Glad that you found the video helpful!!

Hi Victoria, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and really love your videos!
I'm planning a stay in Thailand next year with an ED visa. I've never been there but it's been my dream for a long time. I really really want to learn Thai and try living in this country for a few months. Unfortunately, I only have about 4 to 6 months next year to do this and I'm unsure which language school in Bangkok is the best option for me. Duke Language School sounds really fantastic, but I read on the website that the ED visa course takes at least 8 months. Have you ever heard that students could book a shorter ED visa course there? Anything between 3 and 6 months?
(Otherwise I will have to look for another language school. Maybe ALA or AAA would be a good option. Unfortunately, I can hardly find any reviews from students.)
Have a wonderful day! Thanks for your helpful videos!

Hey, I'm so glad you found my channel and you're enjoying my videos. Sorry for the delay in responding. Although it says 8 months, the course isn't actually 8 months long. It is actually 5 courses aka months long but you have 8 months to complete them all in, this is so that people can take a couple of months break if they need to. Therefore, if you go with the 8 month course, you could do all of them in 5 months and have 1 month left to travel which would see you up to the 6 months. Alternatively you can study for 2 months, travel for two months and then fly home, however you will still be paying for 5 courses so you would just have to swallow that loss.
Hope the above helps and Duke is a great school so if you decide to go there, I hope you enjoy it!

Hello Victoria! First of all, thank you for the videos and your content in general, it's great! So, I was wondering if there is a procedure to switch from in person to online lessons. How did you manage that with the school? Does that not affect the ED Visa (as I thought the classes with an ED Visa had to be in person)? Thank you in advance!

Hey! No worries, I'm happy to know you like them, thank you! I went during covid so online was introduced because of that which meant I had the option of choosing which one I'd prefer. However I know at the time they were thinking of doing in-person only, so I don't know if online is still an option. I'd recommend contacting the school to double check. Best of luck!

If I remember correctly the 8 months cost me around £600-700 at the time of enrolling.
