I'm so excited that a company is finally making monitors which don't just focus on media consumption. I regularly put one of my screens in portrait mode for things like writing and coding, and that 16:9 aspect ratio is always just too awkward. This basically solves the problem and seems really well geared towards professionals who aren't just buying a monitor to watch TH-cam or Netflix.

I find this form factor extremely appealing. 16:9 is common, but I prefer older full-frame 4:3 (maybe just because it's what I grew up with?) and a lot of content now is made on and for vertically oriented smartphones, where ultra wide is very far from ideal.
I suppose the most practical use I see in this for myself is in audio production. A lot of cats go for ultra wide so they can see more of the traditional DAW tracks sprawling horizontally across time. Thing is, it autoscrolls when you want it to. I'd rather be able to see more individual tracks vertically and have room for other windows on top.

    • @brentgreeff1115

4:3 is the dream. - 4k x 3k - at 38" across. - I have tried 4K @ 32" and I need to use scaling - text is too small for me. - I like 1440p @ 27" - and looking at this video, the text looks very small for me. - Apple got it right with 5K at 27" with the Thunderbolt Display ( doubled 1440p ). - I am going to buy 2 of these just to add my 5c contribution so we hopefully see more targeted monitors like this. - doesnt seem to be on sale anywhere though.

    • @wiegraf9009
      @wiegraf9009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

4:3 is good for editing or reading A4 sized documents when it's in portrait mode, 16:10 is also solid. 16:9 is kinda the worst. I think this monitor is a bit suboptimal for that but it will have plenty of room for UI elements around the document.

This looks brilliant for translators too. As of late I and many colleagues have moved on to using two smaller screens, wherein generally one is for the source file being translated or maybe for documentation ends and the other for having our CAT tool on.
I easily picture myself having it all on one screen, with my documentation, e-mail client, translation live preview and such arranged in tiles and I feel the up-and-down eye movement is more natural, frictionless and forgiving than moving your head left to right non-stop as you would usually do with two smaller screens or one bigger screen while you process text any which way. Setting up a hyper-focus mode would also be a breeze I suspect. Really, really cool.

I’ve been eyeing this for a while. Conceptually I’ve always liked the idea of putting a regular 16:9 monitor in portrait orientation for the sake of having a top and bottom window, but it always seemed like the width would be limiting. While maybe not as sleek looking, the DualUp seems to provide that extra width for windows to be sized properly.

    • @jrr2479

and that is exactly what you get. it is wide enough for most situations. I've done the same with a 27" monitor and is just too awfully tall and two skinny. This LG monitor balances things out, it is not as tall as the 27" turned vertically, but it is significantly wider.

I think that it might be the monitor I am searching for. On a day to day basis, I use a laptop as a "main" monitor and an old tv on a stand as a vertical monitor for coding, database management, reading docs etc...and it's just a bit narrow for some use cases (that present pretty often) while the laptop is just too crammed for a lot of tasks. This is actually a format that would be perfect for most of what I do. Thanks for the cool review.

I saw the announcement and I thought it had great promise. Watching your video, you demonstrated so many of the things I would do with it. My existing, old, LG ultrawide has the dual computer hookup, but that kind of defeats the intent, you basically get 2, narrower, screens on a wide screen.
I'm buying one of these for my primary monitor, then turning my ultra wide on it's end to put my email, teams, slack, calendar, etc., on it.
I hope it all works as well as I believe it will!!

Everyone has different needs for their workflow so I'm curious to see how others would potentially use this. As a creative, I likely wouldn't use this as my main screen due to the lower PPI but I'm very intrigued at using it as a secondary screen. I could have Behance, Dribble or Pinterest taking up the entire height to see more design inspiration at a time or placing my PhotoShop layers panel on that monitor while I work on the main monitor. Then of-course there's always the general usage for putting notes, spreadsheets, email etc on there as well. Lots of potential here for different use cases!

Essentially two 1440p 16:9 monitors stacked together. If you already have that setup and you’re tired or staring at the bezel between both monitors that’s directly in your eyeline, this seems perfect.
This would be perfect for my use case.

I love the resolution 2880x2560, but I wonder if the size 28" is enough (measured diagonally of course).
I think it won't compare to two 28" monitors at 1440x2560 in portrait mode...
Same resolution, yes, but smaller total screen size.
I currently use five 1440p 28" monitors in portrait mode, and I love it, but would love to get rid of some of the bezels for sure.

This isn't appropriate for my needs but I thoroughly support exploring other aspect ratios. My ideal monitor setup would be a very large ultrawide with a stretched bottom, so basically something like a 40+ inch 21:18. The only reason I haven't gone ultrawide is because I need vertical space, but I hate using multiple monitors out of the need for more horizontal space as well. Hopefully they make this one day, maybe they will if they are experimenting with 16:18.

so, could you hook the monitor up to two outputs from the same graphics card or laptop to essentially use it as two separate monitors? Have you tried that since you can't do a dock "up / down" in windows or osX. As if the two separate monitor outputs were stacked so the mouse moves seamlessly between the two "screens" That would be nice with the taskbar docked to the left or right side on both screens

This monitor is very intriguing. I do have a few questions: If I am a small office and I perform multiple jobs in the business, from basic MS Office productivity tasks, to occasional HD or 4K video editing, to occasional desktop publishing and photo editing, and putting out flyers, posters and brochures, will this monitor give good color accuracy and image quality? Is this monitor a 4K display? If you can pivot this monitor 90º, what does it look like sideways? Does this monitor have a built-in webcam? How good is the webcam? If not, can an aftermarket webcam be attached and plugged-into the monitor's hub? Why didn't you demonstrate the monitor's usefulness as a KVM switch?

Funny - the first video I watched on your channel was the review of the DELL P2415Q - where you gave me the idea to use a monitor in Portrait. Right now - I have a dell in Landscape & another in portrait. - the only thing wrong with this - is that you need 2 of them. - its also a little bit tall. - 2 inches shorter would be better since you want the top of the monitor just above eye level.

I've been planning to add 2 stacked 24" QHD to supplement a 5k2k (off to the side). So, this is that in 1 panel (elegant). However, each would-be QHD screens is only 21.2", so it's likely too small to use without scaling. That, and for $700 I could get instead get 3.5 LG 24QP500-B monitors, currently under $200 (and I've seen them for less), which also run at 75 Hz (this is 60 Hz), have FreeSync (because why not), and are 24" (so are better in every way, except that they are two panels). The arm looks nice, but I was thinking of matching all the arms, so selling the monitor with a nice arm creates another dilemma. I'd love to see this in more like a 32" diagonal, without the arm, and for $400. And for that price I might buy 2.
