My dad used to drive those buses when they were GMT. He worked out of Fredrick's Road depot. I now follow in his tyre tracks driving in and around Exeter
Cracking vid mate. Nice to see the Boyle Street entrance to Queens Road depot - a family friend still drives out of there. Happy memories of the old Fleetlines and Attys - and 1451 of course - the QS pet. I was probably the only 14 year old scouser to drive a QS A-reg Olympian around Bury Interchange and Darn Hill Estate!!!
A lot of the GMS Metrobuses had their rear rebuilt due to problems with it simply rusting/rotting away - removing the windows helped to strengthen the rear of these vehicles. I believe 5120 was one of these vehicles. I remember they ran with all white-painted rears after rebuilding before Stagecoach took the opportunity to use them as advertising canvases.
So good to see the buses with character on the roads, all looking great, these where when buses was buses,I remember 5120 well,it was a lovely machine and it's good to see it aging so well,so compliments to all the hard working people who put there time into such an important job of keeping these buetys looking so well,1 thing I never understood is why did they change the numbers from let's say 8706 to 4706?
Some of these buses were absolute workhorses. They'd keep going on and on forever. Nowadays, buses are temperamental and can't even finish their journey. I need only refer to a recent journey from Wigan to The Trafford Centre. It only got as far as Boothstown. The best bit about this? It was a StreetLite/Shite. 😂
The most confusing thing about Manchester buses when you're used to London buses, is that you could pay 4 different prices for the same journey depending on the bus company 😩
@ghpg2008 Yes I was looking at your ride on 4151 and trying to work out if I was on it, I had it about 12:30 ish to Woodthorpe, couldn't actually see me on it. And I think you filmed a ride on ANA622Y on its way to Victoria just before I got on, nearly got on youtube myself lol!
Did first just sell the majority of the atlanteans , olympians etc on for scrap or was they sold on to private companys ? As they pretty much just disappeared overnight :(
Why did that bus have bright lime green stripe?? Was it a special bus? I know that the airport use to have a special colour at times but iv never seen green before. Also why did gmpt prefer the atlanteen fleet line buses most and why they would only one double door instead of two? Does anyone know? I bet it was down to cost as everything else. Also the sound of those fleet line buses reversing always sounded like a whale being castrated. It sounded ungodly lol
The yellow stripe was applied to buses operating in Merseyside. Yellow was the Merseyside PTE colour and is still used by Merseyrail today. It'll also be the colour applied across public transport networks across Greater Manchester when franchising comes into effect.

Bloody hell! Theres me at Woodthorpe admiring 4151 (Me wearing the blue coat Reebok rucksack) at 0:37!!!!
GM buses were great 👍
And kept british manufacturing jobs, anything from Leyland were workhorses 💪
Depending on where you lived, inthe operating area of GM buses you saw some good liverys

Excellent video. I had planned to attend this event but didn't make it. Thanks for letting me see what I missed.
It maybe becuase all over advertising was favourable at one time. It used to have an all over advert before Stagecoach withdrew it. That maybe why.
