Only about halfway through, but the part about we are not pain or pleasure reminds me of a realization I had fairly recently-- our minds actively seek out patterns- that don't actually exist- but seems it when we get confirmation bias (i.e. good moral people who put in the work always have good things coming to them, and vice versa). Even if things are going good, we must not fall for these invalid biases, since never know how life will go & will be life shattering when the fabric of our realities come crashing down- but must see the bigger picture for how we are fortunate/ many things that are never in our control whether we are good or bad. Be grateful but not resentful. See our challenges & disadvantages as opportunities, not roadblocks

My friend, Brother Akash Mitra gave you a nice answer, but who knows these things, I'm talking about first hand experience..you be the knower and conformer about this, didn't Swami Vivekananda say that in Raja Yoga, find the truth your self. Swami Sarvapriyananda's words are not contradictory to me, but I'm not you and you are not me, in the worldly sense, I understand your genuine question, so go mediate my dear friend, and find the truth for your self. I hope its more than a question, a quest..

"It is easy to concentrate the mind on external things, the mind naturally goes outwards; but not so in the case of religion, or psychology, or metaphysics, where the subject and the object, are one. The object is internal, the mind itself is the object, and it is necessary to study the mind itself -- mind studying mind. We know that there is the power of the mind called reflection. I am talking to you. At the same time I am standing aside, as it were, a second person, and knowing and hearing what I am talking. You work and think at the same time, while a portion of your mind stands by and sees what you are thinking. The powers of the mind should be concentrated and turned back upon itself, and as the darkest places reveal their secrets before the penetrating rays of the sun, so will this concentrated mind penetrate its own innermost secrets. Thus will we come to the basis of belief, the real genuine religion. We will perceive for ourselves whether we have souls, whether life is of five minutes or of eternity, whether there is a God in the universe or none. It will all be revealed to us. This is what Raja-Yoga proposes to teach."
The above is from Swami Vivekananda's Raja Yoga - where He says "Mind studying mind" which contradicts what this Swami said "Mind can't know mind - only the Witness knows the mind"
The "Monk at Gangotri" (may be a fictitious one) was wrong in saying that mind did not know that there was happiness in mind of the man who felt happy when the Monk told him that "you are not sad - you only know that there is sadness in your mind"
I think Sw Sarvapriyanandaji is confused - and he is confusing others who came to listen to his lectures
    Utpal Chakrabarty

    • @armitra
      @armitra 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

With due respect, I believe you are confusing what Swami said and what is being taught in Raja Yoga. Mind can watch over itself due to parallelism of thinking and analytical process within mind. This is the reason why you can sing and dance at the same time. A part of your mind may "watch" over the other part of your mind. But the entire mind works because there is this "consciousness" behind. This consciousness (seer) is different than your mind (seen) itself. What swami is talking about is this difference (viveka) between mind and its knower. This dualism, however, is finally culminated when you realize that this consciousness is not yours or mine - in fact, this individual consciousness is part of the greater universal consciousness that pervades each one of us. At that point there is no dualism - it's one (advaita).

Swami Sarvapriyanandaji is not confused! You should remember the working principle: Knower and the known must be different. He certainly meant that 'you' are different from your 'thoughts'. Happiness/Sadness are only in your thoughts and you are apart from those thoughts. When I say I AM HAPPY, I associate myself with Happiness where, I, the knower of Happiness, cannot be the Known- Happiness because the knower and the known must be different.
Therefore, if I know, even with the help of the mind, that I am happy/sad, I do not really become happy or sad. Happiness/sadness is a state that comes and goes where, I, being the witness of this happiness or sadness does not come and go. Due to the wrong perceptions we are identifying ourselves with the body-mind complex!!
You should checkout the other lectures of Swamiji. Very powerful and beneficial!

What is History? It tells you about what happened before our time... Gratefully, the question we should asked is do we want to to repeat history? Now what went wayward that caused their demised? Is it ignorance or is it defiance? Ironically, it seems that history reminds us in the form of "carved in stones or writings on the walls". These "primitives" as the learned person depict... Do we still want to rekindle the same path as them?.....

If this only philosophy is correct why Except Ramakrishna Paramhansa no one realize Turia in the sect. because Paramhansa never learned the concept till he realized.
Even Swami Vivekanand himself was not enlightened enough to realize the Turia the Sahaj Samadhi.
Advaita is eternal truth only after the realization, till then its only subjective truth. its very easy to debate on theory with numerous subjective examples so on & so forth, itself creates a barriers to realize Turia, Turia is Turia only when realized once for all.
Why a simple thing could not be understood by the sect. even this knowledge itself is also an obstacle in the path, this philosophy can only help up to a certain intellectual level, when one attains the body less state. This learning also needs to be unlearned, else more learned person will have more obstacles on the path of realization he can only becomes a good speaker with good theoretical knowledge, people may praise him, serve him even may worship him, this will only help to feed more to ego to make it larger then life. But for sure he will never be able to realize Turia.
GOD (the state) is not a subject of philosophy, not to understand, discuss, learn, memorize & not to be argued on & not even to be attained. its just the realization, which does not need any external explanation & proof. itself is complete in it.
Unlearn all the learning, clear the garbage of all subjective good & bad, true & false from the mind can easily help to realize the State.
One don't need to learn theories & philosophy, more learning will take more time to realize the state. this one can easily feel when even Savikalp Samadhi is attained.
Meditation is not meditation till it has methodology, after a level it just happens,
methods can be applied but only to distract.
Becoming swami is not about outfit, not about learning, understanding & memorizing the scriptures, not about the roaming in isolated places, not about renouncing the world, not about staying in caves, Till the times these are only physical swami is deluding himself & it will create one more sub layer of delusion.
Un learning all learned with conscious state can easily help to realize the state at least till Savikalp Samadhi (a complete hollow with zero weight feel where mind becomes a third party can be seen from a distance but still works as it in normal life but can easily be controlled without getting involved in it) for sure I can say here.
The breath becomes completely free of its own without any Pranayama. feels like can fly & has no body with a complete better control over it, becomes body-less body.
I am not able to express the feel very exactly here of the state.
For Sure the no one can realize Turia after knowing the concept of Turia unless unlearned not unlearning the concept itself will become an obstacle.
How to realize is more important then what to realize for every unrealized person, once realized the realization itself will elaborate everything which will be surely & entirely different then what even the cumulative intellect of mankind can understand with infinite examples.
If not agreed, one will come to know after practice, else this too is theory like Who am I & Turia.

Everything you say here seems straight out of the path of Patanjali Yoga /Raj Yoga/ Yoga Vashisht. That talks of " samadhi" to be achieved et al. That's nice and a valid path. But the philosophy, approach and methodology to realize Turiya (yes, not just learn or simply theorize intellectually about it) in the Jnana yoga marg is different. The " samadhi" experience is not needed. Please refer to the talk/discourse of Swami Sarvapriyanandaji on the famous text " Aparokshanubhuti " ( "non-indirect experience" ) by Adi Shankaracharya where he presents a profound comparitive analysis for the path of Yoga versus Jnana Marg . Thanks.

What do you mean by not enlightened enough? Who is there to setting the degree of enlightenment? Adwaita is a way , everything has to be realised. Swami Vivekananda was anon believer, until he met, attain that state, after that he accepts his guru Ramakrishna as his spiritual teacher guide . Whole Ramakrishna order is the living vedantic philosophy or practicing Vedantic teaching. Apart from theory, that's why they are after serving of the masses, instead of doing spiritual works in caves.

The eyes and the ears are different. Can the eyes see the ears? Also, the mind knows itself as well, unlike the eyes that can not see themselves. Wrong interpretation. Sri Krishna said in Gita "kShetrajnAm chApi mAm viddhi" - Only the Lord is the knower of the entire khSetra (which are mahattatva, etc.). Certainly he did not imply that Arjuna or you or me are kShetrajna. Interpreting our identity with Sri Krishna is a big blunder. Note elsewhere the Lord says "tAnyaham veda sarvANi na tvam vettha parantapa"(I know them all and you do not know). There is no Advaita any where in Gita. Most importantly apply the logic of difference between draShTa and drushya. Since the sAkshi see the mind, the sAkShi and mind are different, likewise, the sarvasAkshi sees many sAkShis and so sarvasAkShi is different from all these sAkShis - you, me, all the men, all the animals, etc.(I am not talking about their bodies, but the sAkShis in them). There is no evidence for only one sAkShi - ekamevAdvitIyam does not mean "no second entity exists", but it means "nothing like that exists - simply it means that it is peerless" . Also in Gita, Lord says "na chaiva na bhaviShyAmaH, sarve vayamataH param" (Never will be a time that we do not exist). Note the unconditional endless plurality. Certainly the endlessness can not be spoken of the bodies. It is the plurality of consciousness. Not one, two or three - enormous number of misses, and not a single hit. Another shruti statement indicating plurality of consciousness - "nityo nityAnAM chetanashchetanAnAm".
