In this video I share my minimalist bathroom essentials, and some zero waste swaps I've made in my beauty routine to try and have less impact. At the end of 2018, my husband and I quit our jobs, sold our yoga studio and 90% of our possessions and moved into our 1969 VW bus. We spent 18 months traveling the globe exploring, rock climbing, adventuring and eating delicious vegan food along the way. We recently settled in Joshua Tree, CA with our pup Gypsy, and have been adjusting to a minimalist life in a house.

About your shampoo bar: you should cut it up in 3 or 4 pieces, store the ones you are not using, keep the one you are using in a dry space - since you wash your hair twice a month.

You can sew a piece of fabric or ribbon on your towels to hang them. It should just take a couple of minutes sewing by hand
I bought a wooden ear pick to use instead of cotton swabs. The name is weird but they work great. I have not purchased cotton swabs in 2 years.
This was so inspiring to me. I’ve been searching for ways to add MORE storage to my small bathroom to try and fit everything AND have it look clean and uncluttered. I really need to pare down my stuff. Granted, we have 9 people living here and that makes it hard to be super minimal (because even a minimal amount for 9 people still adds up to a lot), but this gave me lots of great ideas. Thank you!

Towels, you can sew a loop onto any towels. Use narrow grosgrain ribbon.
Trash bin: can you pull the wood bit up from the undamaged end and then slide it out of the dented area?
Put the lid on the toilet down before you flush.

I bought 6 months ago inexpensive Made by Design bath towels from Target that have hanging loops and they come in nice colors. They also hold up very well.

Hey Rebecca, I really love the aesthetics of your bathroom, and being some minimalistic I find it so calming. Regarding the toothpaste tube, if you check the little flat lip at the bottom it should have a bb date.

Definitely trying those toothpaste bites, looks like a easy minimal swap!
I started using a cloth peg with a small rope on it and clip it onto the towel :) That way I can hang any towel, even if it doesn't have a hanger (any more).

My dog also loves this Bath mat, she was sleeping in the bathroom all the time and didn't want to sleep on her bed anymore, so we gave her a bathmat as a bed and she sleeps on it since. Everybody look at this weirdly, so I have to explain our dog is fine, she just prefers bathmat over her bed 🤷♀️

It was a really interesting video. And as for hooks on towels -it's very easy to make it yourself, just sew whatever ribbon or piece of cloth, or braided thick thread on the towel and voila :)
I really need to work on acquiring some sewing skills!

I wonder, how often do you have to do loundry? I love having lot's of cotton towels and wash clothes.
How does the bamboo items hold up ? I realize it’s natural but I like more lasting stuff . Although I do like the look of the wood , no doubt it’s looks great.

I hope very much that you’ll create an Amazon store front. I know there is some stink on Amazon, however it’s an amazing resource for those whom live in food deserts and places that don’t have access to sustainable resources. You can even contact them to have all your packages packed responsibly without plastic.

Thanks for sharing! I have been experimenting with shampoo bars and home made shampoo for about 18 months with no joy so far! So my otherwise minimal bathroom is full of random pots of shampoo ingredients!
I've been researching how to make my own for when this bar eventually runs out. Can't wait to try!

You can find a lot of zero waste things on Amazon
You should be able to buy replacement blades for your sharpener at a local art supply store (not big box store).
Do you not use bidet clothes? Where do you keep them ( clean ones) and keep them before they are washed ( used ones)? If you haven't done a video on it I would be interested in the logistics of exactly how they whole process works.

We live in a small house with one bathroom and sometimes smelly things happen in there. Lighting a match gets rid of any smells instantly!
I love these videos! Your bathroom is perfection, clutter free and serene. Every dog I have had has always stolen my bath mats, I think they like the soft, cottony texture.

Wow! You do an amazing job being zero waste in the bathroom. I am also using Dr. Bronner's unscented soap. Is the entire package of the bar soap recyclable? I question the paper inside the package that covers the soap. It seems to me to have a little plastic. Thanks for the video...I love tours.
I've put the entire package of the Dr. Bronners soap in the compost without issue.

Good news: It's super simple to sew hooks into towels! Cheap + easy and you can get whatever towels you want xD

expiration dates for tubes like paste are on the crimped edge of the tube.
I like white towels but I don't like buying white towels because they staying will easily and I would rather his high purple gray or blue towels they're easier to wash and don't have to worry about staying towels lol I think it's cool that you have great towels I think you're awesome

I would place the bars of soap in the shower on a holder or wash cloth. They must get messy when wet.

Just wondering why you use qtips rather than the ear spoon?
I know you didn't get into the shower curtain much but it sounded like you have a plastic liner. Look on Amazon or just Google "duck shower curtain like hotels use" - weird search but I bought one that is a poly blend and I am on probably 15 yrs now without buying a new curtain. I wash it every 3 months (or as needed). A great investment.
Just thought I'd share that one. (Mine is a cranberry, still bleeds color even after this much time but looks great).

I order my dental floss from Lucky Teeth. It's bamboo, free shipping (I think, 99% sure), very reasonably priced, ships fast, glass container w/ metal lid that you refill, no plastic at all in shipping & works great.
I currently use Eco Dent but would not recommend it (more on that in this week's video!). Still on the hunt for one I like. I will give Kathleen's suggesting a try!

I gave up deodorant a few years ago. My body has totally adjusted and I really don't miss it!

Have a dry brush, but have never gotten into the habit of using it. What are the benefits you see (if any)? Convince me, please!
I don't do any scrubbing or exfoliation in the shower so dry brushing is the best way for my to get rid of dry skin cells (kind of a hold over from when I was living in a van and only showered like once a week). But beyond that it can be really good for circulation and I've noticed a difference in the health / elasticity of my skin for sure. Give it a go!
Big lots sells the wooden qtips for only a dollar and it's a much bigger container

You said you wash your hair every 2 weeks. Do you use any products in your hair?
I'm not currently using any products in my hair. When it was a bit shorter I was using a DIY flaxseed gel, but at this length I'm not finding any products necessary.
