    This might be different for everyone but I have found when I use lip balm, I need lip balm. When I stopped using it, my lips would be chapped for a few days but eventually my body adapted and I haven't needed it in years. Don't come for me, this is just my experience 😋

    I hate it that people think you have to shower every day to be clean. It’s definitely not necessary. In my case my skin reacts to everything, even when it’s just water my skin gets very red and itchy. So I don’t shower every day and no, I don’t smell. Better for me, better for the environment!
    Thanks for the video Lia, it’s very interesting and inspiring, like all of your videos!

      So true! My skin also gets dry if I shower every day (at least if the water is very hot and I shower for a long time) everybody is different and these myths about hygiene are sometimes so ridiculous... And I think all of us can decide how often we need to take a shower to feel good and not upset the people around us ☺ (only that some are upset by hearing us talking about it😂)

    • @bubbbbletea
      @bubbbbletea 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It all depends. I don't shower everyday as well, but I work from home and don't really get a chance to get dirty arms or calves etc. But if I was commuting in public transport and travelling through dusty and polluted city daily, sweating etc, I think I would feel the need for a shower. Not because I'd be smelly but because of all this micro dirt. Btw. not taking shower doesn't mean I don't wash! Underarms have their 2x a day and butt area everytime I'm in a toilet.

    • @minadelina
      @minadelina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The ones who think that you should shower everyday are the ones that wash themselves with only a soap and their hands and no loofa or washing cloth or anything. If you don't get rid of the dirt that is stuck on your skin, of course you'll smell bad in a day. Skin needs a more aggressive exfoliator, so using only your hands doesn't really get rid that stuck dirt on your skin. I take a shower in every two days or sometimes even three days and I've never looked or smell or felt dirty/smelly.

      In my case I shower at least 2 times a day
      But I live in Brazil, and in one of the warmest cities, so it is impossible not to shower multiple times a day. It is also part of our culture to take really good care of our hygiene, people in other countries may find it strange or wasteful, but for us is necessary, if not for only the cultural aspect but also for the weather aspect

    • @111-c5c
      @111-c5c 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you hate it. It is very
      personal what people do. And
      some people have quick showers
      and live in a country having lots
      of lakes and rain, meaning no
      shortage. But if people live in
      a very got country many shower
      twice a day. Or where there is
      a water shortage then they shower
      less.

      Shalom sis love your head wrap!
      One bag is my goal as well. I use coconut oil to moistures my body, my face, to oil pull my teeth. I still have my hello fresh toothpaste but I may oil pull & brush only once it’s done. I also use coconut oil for deodorant I just rub it under my arms.
      I use Dr. Bronner tea tree soap to wash my hair, face and body.I also use it to wash my lil dishes. I’m a car lifer so I dont have much dishes anyway lol. I use baking soda as a scrub for face n body. I’m trying to learn how to use dr. B & baking soda to wash clothes.
      I used to be a product junky with extensive hair, face n body routines and products but I realized most Ingredients are harmful to us and the environment. I love having less now!

    In my youth I never really washed my body with soap, just water and my hair with shampoo and I always got comments on how good I smelled, especially when I had a light sweat for some reason.
    But now I live in a different place and the house just smells different, so I feel I need to shower more often here - our surroundings just give off a scent and we give a scent to our surroundings, but I definitely experienced that our house has an impact on our body scent.

      Also a big reason why lips get chapped is because they don't have pores like the rest of our skin, so it isn't able to produce oil to hydrate itself.

    I never use lip balm and one thing I have always done is lightly brush my lips as I finish brushing my teeth, which exfoliates a bit and brings natural color, and then I sip black coffee in the morning with a tiny bit of coconut oil in it which seems to condition my lips as I sip. I ski 4x per week and this helps immensely but everyone is different so that's just one idea of many. Loved seeing your bathroom essentials!

    I use for a few years now reusable squares from old towel for number 1 and toilet paper for number 2.
    I made tissu for my nose with used t-shirt, I switched a few weeks ago and love it and wished I switched sooner. It is so soft and it is diy.
    I made a cute cover for the tissues and for the reusable toilet paper I made a cute box with cardboard.

      What I really hated when I was a kid were reusable cotton tissues for nose - when it was hard to buy the paper ones or even a toilet paper. When you use the cottons, you still carry it. All day. With you. Becomes. Hardened. And. Disgusting. And. I cannot imagine. My family. Bringing me their tissues for washing. And I have to soak them in water... no, thank you... the best would be catching no cold or flu and no tissues needed ;)

      I stopped wearing perfume for over 10yrs now...I recently tested a sample on my wrist at Ulta, and nearly threw up and felt feverish. So as a result, I will continue to not wear perfume....my body totally rejects it. Instead, I wear scented lotion made from real safe natural ingredients and essential oils.

    For toilet paper, well.. in my house we don't really use it, we wash ! (just hear me out haha) it's a cultural thing where i live, we use water in a little bucket (water from the sink ) some have a bidet and for outside i personally juste always make sure i have a bottle of water with the amount i need ( i've been doing it since i was a kid so i just know how much water i need so i don't waste it) and then we use small (individual, everyone has their own) towels to dry/wipe
    Now for Pee, you can just wipe and not use water it's less waste, i am just a bit paranoid about smell and it bugs me if i don't rince a little !
    And of course when we're done we wash our hands with soap ( i promise juste wash your hand correctly and there won't be any smell), i understand it can't be for everyone but you can just try it once and see if you're comfortable with it, i find it really useful for when you travel somewhere where there isn't any toilets or paper all you need is water, a cloth/towel and soap !

    Your skin looks so clear and perfect, whatever you’re doing is working! I have a minimal bathroom routine as well, very gentle vegan shampoo and conditioner, a little argon oil on my hair, coconut and almond oil to remove my mascara, some coconut oil for moisturizer. I do use sunscreen every day, moisturizer for my face. I also just got a bunch of bamboo toothbrushes for my family, so we are slowly switching over to that as well. I’m trying to go zero (or less) wasteful, it is inspiring to see others who have already incorporated this into their routines as well.

    Showers: When I worked outside of the home and had to get "dressed up" every day, I showered every day with a commercial body wash. And used deodorant every day. And smelled a bit at the end of every day. It's a self-perpetuating cycle, I think. I now work from home and take far fewer showers. I have a nice natural deodorant that I use maybe twice a week. If I do notice anything about armpit smell it's only slightly offputting and it's not that often, mostly if I forget to use deodorant right after I shower. I do use soap though because I like the bubbles and the scent. But I try to stick with something like an olive oil-based soap that doesn't strip my skin.

    • @ecofriendlia
      @ecofriendlia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh yes, I can totally relate! That happens to me as well, also with shampoo. The more I use, the oilier my hair, then I use it even more often and my hair gets oily faster.... But it is kind of hard to break out of this sometimes... ☺

    It's not always possible to get rid of the need of lip balm or putting a product on the skin. If it is dry in the air due to osmosis moisture will leave the lips and go outside due to the chemical process of osmosis. Even though we can give the lip moisture through even putting water on them since there isn't any fatty layer providing a barrier on top it will leave the lips. Even if we drink water the amount of water molecules in the lips is still so proportionally small to all the molecules binding to water in the air that it will pull out the moisture regardless if we have lips full of moisture.

    You're a breath of fresh air! I also wash my hair sparingly and use products that I've made myself. I haven't had trouble with dried lips so far so maybe it's really working. I created a balm that I also use on my body made with argan oil, shea butter, natural vitamin e and lavender essential oils. I apply a small amount on my face after a shower and my lips are set until my next shower (1-2 days).

    Lip balm is a hard one ! It’s definitely one of those products that the more you use the more you actually need it because your teaching your body to not produce it’s own oils , but as someone who lives in a colder climate I find each year when winter comes I really need that layer of protection so my lips don’t turn to dust ! I’ve found buying lip balm but supporting local vegan handmade creators is my way to go :o) it’s nice to give local business people that little bit of support after all ! x

    Also, I wish I could find a zero waste or at least compostable packaging deodorant that works for me. I tried several different ones over several months, and I had a skin reaction to them all! I wonder if it’s bicarb in them. I would love to keep trying, but they are usually expensive!

    I'm in a hot humid are, so I shower daily, multiple times in summer! However, I only use soap during my last shower at night. The others are just rinsing. For years, I would itch and break out in red splotches for 30 minutes after each bath, until I figured out I was bathing too often. So I just eliminated the soap (tried different kinds).
    Thanks for sharing you sustainable tips.

    I think the cracked and dry lips many of us experience are likely down to the dryness of the atmosphere where we live- heating and suchlike. I've heard that if you rub the side of your nose with a finger and then rub that on your lips, it helps- basically the oil that the skin naturally produces in certain areas can be redistributed to areas that need it. :)

    A replacement for your lip balm concern, I recommend using unrefined coconut oil! Coconut oil qualifies as a lip balm, face/body moisturizer, and even conditioner for the hair! It's very low waste, cheap, and can last for months. A great product that I promise by always! :)

    Lip balm is good to use. When you intake enough vitamins and water, you might stop needing it, but saying that is easier than doing it. The organism is the most complex thing I've known so far in my life and balancing the functions of the body is the biggest challenge I see daily. Somehow though, when focusing on plant based and full of fruit and vegetable, drinking a lot if pure water way of eating, I stopped needing my lip balm that much. Another thing that helps me personally us exposure to the natural environment - sunbathing, rain and wind gradually. Living more outdoors made my skin not do sensitive. Yet I did this gradually, going out every day todo gardening and composting of my food waste products.
    Happy November! :) thanks for this channel

    I went (almost) water-only with my hair this year! Honestly, I've never been happier with my hair, except that it does get really dry sometimes (hence why I use conditioner once a week or so).
    Also, I do use makeup as a confidence boost, but I've whittled my products down a lot; for example, I use Besame cake mascara for mascara, brows and eyeliner, and I stopped using foundation/concealer. I also moisturize because no matter what I do my skin gets pretty dry :P :P

    I've been simplying my shower and skicare routine over the years as I hate to have multiples of products. I use a cleanser every 2-3 days mostly when I shower every 2 -3 days so its easy to remove in the running water, I'll also shower every 2-3 days unless I have done heavy excercise or its muggy hot (we get to 30 - 48 degrees in summer). Most times will just wash my face with a facewash and then put Jojoba oil or moisturiser on and I am done. I use deodorant mainly when I leave the house or am excercising and I use an olive oil soap for my body and a shampoo bar for my hair., period underwear and reusable pads during that time of month. You should try using olive oil as a lip balm I heard it has rather good moisturising properties as its used as a base in soap products :) :)

    Well, I use an easier deodorant, it is baking soda. You just wet your hand put a little baking soda and rub it on your skin. And I exercise every day and don't smell. To shower I use a soap made out of coconut. It is hand made. I have to shower every day because of my exercise. And for skin lotion I just use coconut oil, which is organic. My daughter's hair and my hair are short so no hair bands. The only extra thing I have is clippers to cut my husband's hair, my daughter's hair and my hair. 😁 And scissors and a fabric cape for the hair oh and no menstrual cup, I don't need it anymore. I use makeup, but very sparingly so I think that that's less wasteful, and the brands that I am gearing towards are refillable and aware of their footprint. Also I use shampoo and conditioner because shampoo bars dry out my hair :(. Hi Lia. I just found your channel and it's really inspiring, I try to live more sustainable myslef. I am wondering what's your opinion on sunscreens, as you don't use any skincare? The sun rays are damaging our uncovered skin all the time, no matter if it's cloudy, or we stay inside houses. I feel that if I can somehow protect my skin from cancer in the future i should do it, not to mention anti-aging properties. :)

    Hi, I've been trying the no-poo/green tea rinse/rye flour on/off for a few years now, and I struggle a bit with an itchy scalp, and greasy greasy hair. I can't use my regular boar bristle brush as the sebum/dust/grease clogs it, and have been using a comb like yours, that I then have to clean every time, I've given my hair a good brush. I often wonder, if all this grease won't go to the bed sheets when I have to clean my comb every time. What do you experience? I would LOVE to not use products, but I also find it quite straining on my every day life and sense of hygiene to have greasy/waxy hair, whilst everyone else have this commercial shiny, silky, airy kind of hair. I know it's not natural, and filled with chemicals, but the FEELING of your scalp being able to breathe and be more silky, is quite hard for me to not have when I do a no-poo. Would love to hear how you tackle all this.

      I have the exact same experience! Apple cider vinegar rinses help a lot with the feeling but I have to clean my comb after every brush too and try to change bedsheets (especially pillow covers ) regularly even though I haven't noticed them being extra greasy. I don't really have a solution and that is why I have been struggling a bit since I started 2017... One thought is that maybe the silky hair texture is not as normal as we think... But a product of these harsh shampoos. But I always on a fine line between trying and hoping it gets better and feeling frustrated because a lot of people seem to have really silky hair even with the only water method... 😕

      @@ecofriendlia I was given this shampoo from a friend, as it didn't work for her, but so far it seems to work REALLY well for me, so I wanted to link you the brand, as I appreciated your honesty about your experience that was similar to mine. eliah-sahil.com/en/product/organic-shampoo-amla/
