In the last two years Longines have absolutely killed it. The only issue is some of the lug to lug measurements where it’s actually too big

Watch collecting was becoming unfulfilling, so I sold my Speedmaster Moon Watch and Tudor Black Bay and now regularly rock my Longines Hydroqonquest, blue with the ceramic bezel. It's become my favourite watch. Great vid.

I have a buddy with a no-date Sub and he loves my Longines HC. I am a huge fan of the Omega Diver 300m, but pound for pound I get huge enjoyment out of my watch.
It’s very personal, but Longines has been killing it.

    Tudor, Easy:
Dress: 1926, from 26mm to 41, many options available
Dive (everyday for me): Black Bay - m7941a1a0ru
    Field: Ranger - m79950-0003
    GMT: BlackBay GMT - m79830rb
Chronograph - aka, Daytona class: BlackBay Chrono - m79360n
Some may chose the ranger for every day but i love the red black bay.
The only downside with tudor, for those afflicted by the small wrist curse, Tudor is probably not the right choice.

Have a couple Rolex but between Longines and Tudor I go with Longines. Love the Ultra chron and Legend diver 39mm. I dig vintage Tudor but modern Tudor just doesn't do anything for me but would love to own a vintage Tudor Small/Big block chronograph or Monte Carlo chronograph or a Tudor Submariner

Tudor is fine, but Longines has the deeper bench, if you will. To Wit: virtually *half* of Tudor's current lineup is Black Bay-based, including a chrono and the obligatory GMT. Beyond this is…what? The Datejust-lite Royal? The same-same-but-different Pelagos? Glamour? (I'll admit the Doube-Date in SS is nice.) 1926? Add the Ranger, and you're suddenly outta steam: These *are* nice watches, mind you, but you're talking a pretty small "collection"…which by itself isn't a bad thing, but variety ain't the spice of life with the rose logo.
Longines: The fun thing here is where to start? The Lindbergh series was always my jam - when those came out around the 1990s, I'd almost have killed for one. For the sake of (relative) brevity, here's what I'd pick from them:
Chronograph: It's tie between the Avigation Bigeye and asymmetrical "driver's style" Avigation A-7 single-pusher. (Seriously, take a good look at the A-7, and tell me you're nonplussed.)
Dresser: Conquest Heritage, all-damned-day long. (Champagne dial, please.)
Diver: Must we? Hydroconquest GMT, then. Blue.
    Elegantly Tanked: DolceVita, SS/silver/blued hands.
Thing is, Jory, I could load up with at least three more from Longines and still have a silly-varied collection. (I didn't'even know of the Conquest Heritage until you threw down the gauntlet here.) And, judging from your current love-fest with that Doxa chronograph (can't blame you), I believe we're close to being on the same wavelength here.

The Longines Spirit Zulu Time looks and wears like a 1950’s to 1970’s GMT which is no complaint as I find the Tudor and Rolex GMT’s too bulky and would make a great casual wear watch.
I think the Longines Conquest Heritage silver 35mm dress watch is also lovely and work well as a daily wear if you are for example a Solicitor, accountant, estate agent. But would go well with certain casual wear like polo shirt, blue jeans and deck shoes.

Full Tudor collection. Well, that is kinda tricky for sure. So in my collection, I would include an everyday watch, a diver, something automotive(a chronograph probably), a GMT, and something a bit dressier. As for everyday piece, I'd go with a Tudor Royal 38 with a salmon dial. Simple, cool looking, with all the itegratness and salmonness that is so hot right now. Diver - it has to be something fun, bright, and summery - probably a Black Bay 58 with a red bezel. Now chronograph - there aren't many options in their current catalog but I'd go with Back Bay Chrono with a white dial. It can be on a strap with the addition of a rally strap in brown to complete the look. GMT - Black Bay Pro. A proper tool watch. Definitely on a bracelet. And the last one - a dress watch. This option isn't a proper dress watch but I think it fits quite nicely - 1926 36mm with a white dial. Can be either on a bracelet or on brown leather(not a fan of black leather). Or maybe even a two-tone option on a bracelet.

Here's my attempt at listing a well rounded Tudor collection.
Pelagos 42 - full sized diver and titanium boxes ticked in one go. Also has a trick clasp to show off.
Black Bay GMT - well, it's a GMT and we all want one even though we don't actually need one.
Black Bay Chrono - who doesn't need to time something accurately occasionally?
Ranger - field/gada watch with a unique hour hand.
    1926 - Dress watch.
Glamour double date - interesting complication.
    Tudor Royal - bling watch.
Clair De Rose - watch to look at on your girlfriend/wife's wrist whilst out at a posh do.

You are correct that the current Tudor's catalog doesn't offer a lot variety in terms of complications and risk taking, I think Tudor is going at their own pace and in my perspective, they just want to master out everything in their current know-how before moving on to the next piece. For example, the black bay, to come out with as many sizes, many colors, case materials, innovation as possible, and once they perfected it, they can move on to the next series. From that, if I were to create a Tudor watch collection, it would probably be like this. Everyday: Ranger, Dive: PELAGOS FXD Redbull, Dress: GLAMOUR DATE+DAY 39 , Field: BLACK BAY PRO, Fun: BLACK BAY 58 BRONZE or BLACK BAY 58 18K.

Aa you said most modern Tudor are dive watches and most of the newer ones are too big for my wrist. I like the 39mm titanium watch with the titanium bracelet PELAGOS. It took me a lot of years to like the snowflake hands. I like them now. They grew on me. What I really like which I can not afford anything I would like is the vintage Tudor Sub and a few other really old ones that had the ETA movements and were a lot thinner and lighter. I like the flag one as well. If we look at what is new today I think Longines is a better value and a lot more to choose from. This was another brand I did not like at first but grew on me. I like the mint green chronograph watch they sell. I can't afford it right now but if I could that is what I would get.

I was about to disagree, but I went through the Longines collections for my specific wants and desires, and Longines covered way more preferences than Tudor. I don't own a Longines watch, but if one wanted to build a collection on the manufacturer....it can be done. This opinion is coming from a Tudor watch owner....and my next watch will be a Tudor as well.

Tudor Black Bay GMT and Black Bay 41 (red bezel) for sport/everyday wear. Can't think of a single watch from Tudor which speaks to me and I would consider wearing with a suit.

Imo you fail at being diverse if you only get watches from one brand! No matter how many options you have within said brand.

Ive been watching a lot of your videos recently and I agree with most things you say. On this though i feel im missing the point. Surely the watch collector picks "the best of each type" and does not restrict themselves to a particular manufacturer? My approach is to pick the best version or each category watch from whomever makes it. I have a budget and buy the best one I like. Surly it's not about selecting a personal favourite manufacturer and then buying all their watches?

My attempt at an all-around Tudor collection:
    1. Black Bay 58 GMT (GADA)
    2. Black Bay Chronograph Blue (Sports watch)
    3. Black Bay 58 Bronze (Formal wear watch)
I know its all Black Bay but I would be lying to myself if I said that Tudor wasn't the Black Bay company (just like AP is the Royal Oak company) 😂

I agree. Tudor’s range is fairly limited compared to Longines. For that matter, even Hamilton and Tissot have wider ranges from which a diverse collection could be built.

For instance, how might you compare styling, finish, materials, comfort, dials, clasps, workmanship, lume, marketing, longevity, innovation, movements and customer appreciation to name a few? Stay well ❗️😎❗️

I think they’re both neck and neck and it’s possible that swatch has upped the anti because of the black bays success and that’s criminal because Longines should be up there with omega.
Anyway, big Tudor fan I suppose and I’m going with.
Tudor royal 41 date day. Blue dial.
    BB steel and gold chronograph.
    Pelagos 39 titanium.
BB Tudor pro. Black dial obviously…wish they did a polar.

Tudor for me. The black Bay’s along with Pelagos will outlast Longines especially if you use your watches. They just aren’t as tough. My experience anyway.

  • @lammyjammer6670

The Longines Titanium GMT was a nod to their own older designs. They had every right to make that watch. The watch also has some changes people have been clamoring for like removing the stars off the dial and streamlining the text a bit more.
The fact that it looks like a Tudor is irrelevant because they're not trying to copy anyone but themselves and that has literally been their strategy for a while now: reiterating on the older designs and updating them with modern construction techniques and refined complications/movements.
I don't know what that says about the Tudor but I do know comparisons to the BB Pro are a moot argument historically speaking.

In my opinion the mistake is to build a collection only with one brand.
If you have more than two watches, I think it's more pleasurable to have a variety of brands, styles, functions, colors, ...
You stick to one brand if you are sponsored or you just consider your watch as a tool.

The only "luxury" watches I in any way aspire to own are a Tudor Ranger, a Longines Spirit, or Omega Seamaster Railmaster. I used to want an Air-King, but Rolex has totally snobberied itself off my list. Any of these others would be my daily driver. I would not even attempt to build a collection from any of these brands because the concept is way outside my budgetary tolerance. One, just one, of my aforementioned list would be the "pinnacle watch" in my modest collection. I have other expensive hobbies to feed.
