    Nice! My 2018 model (that I got in April 2019) is now at 17,000 miles. I just did the "big" service, valve checks and all. Between all of that the most annoying issue was getting that stupid front sprocket washer to fold. Prior to this I had the inevitable fuel pump/sensor/filter issues that I resolved with aftermarket parts from Guglatech (filters) and aftermarket pump (quantum). As you mentioned, everything else I leave to spec from the repair manual. I did replace the air filter when I first bought the bike with a Uni kit. Don't recommend. Too much oil and just puts a bandaid on the bike. I would go with powercell pods. Between that and a Wing's slip-on its good to go! I replaced the usual oil etc but greased everything, added a new front and rear sprocket and a primary drive chain. Never had to rivet a chain link before! So much better when you do it all yourself. Too bad my ADD kicked in as I wrote this.

    Good review thanks for the video, my 1090R here in Oz has dome 19,000klms, it has similar modifications, I am thinking of the Australian made after market cruise control at about $600 AUD and possibly a Garmin Zumo XT. It is one very capable bike on road or off. Like you I draw the line at single track, the 790 now 890 family is good for that - but I look at my mates on 790's when we hit the highway to get somewhere, and they are whinging/whining like you would not believe. If we plan a trip that involves more than two hours of highway time they want to trailer the bikes. And they got the cruise control I don't as yet. Me, I'm comfortable on the 1090R, more so than on my Street Glide!

      Thanks Steve! I agree on the 1090 and the 790/890. The folks I have ridden with on the wee 90's dislike highways with a passion. I have only ridden the 890 off road. The aero dynamics must be an issue I guess. I have the stock screen on my 1090 in the lowest position and I am fine at 80MPH/130KPH while my buddy on the 890 looks like he went the full rounds with Collin Macgregor. Ride safe!

    Well done review! Everything is functional, very nice do it all bike. Anyone owning a motorcycle should get familiar with the service manual. Taking it in for service doesn't mean they will do it properly... Take care of your bike and it will take care of you! See you in the next one *T4S* 👍🍻

      Self maintenance on a motorcycle is the key to safety and reliability. I have had bike come back from a first service "thrown in" by the dealer and the bike came back with missing or miss matched nuts and bolts, stripped drain plugs. Thanks guys!

    Concur on the Mototeks. Rugged design but could use better QC. Mine came with a burr at a mounting location that could have stripped threads on the fastener had I not questioned the resistance I was feeling on the install and backed out to check.

      I heard some stuff is made in the states and some in China or Taiwan (not sure). I think they have good designs. The wonky issues are a little off putting. I may look elsewhere next time. Too bad.

    • @azdesertdog
      @azdesertdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the kind words Brian. If I could change anything it would be the electronics. I would like less. There is a dongle that is about $150 but you need $350 software to install it. Other than that I would buy more gas so I could ride more.

    Hi and thanks for the nice review. What's your take on chain slap against the swingarm at low speed? It has been annoying me but whatever I do I can't get rid of it. Thx Bjorn 6ft10 with slightly modified 1090R from 2018 to match my height.

    • @azdesertdog
      @azdesertdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chain slap drove me nuts. I try to adjust most of it out. I run a little tight (not much at all) which eats up the chain sliders a little quicker. They're only about $35 US. I get about 5000 miles out of them. The chain and spockets seem to be OK.

    My 1090 have 38,000 miles on it and still feel strong, I change oil every 5k miles, k&n air filter, check valves etc... do you know/read/see how long this engines go?

    • @azdesertdog
      @azdesertdog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Carlos. I change mine at 5K too. I haven't seen any real high mileage but I think a lot of folks buy and don't ride. I know the 990's get up int the 50s or 60s. I am aware of a couple that dies RTW on an 1190 that has impressive miles.

  • @Clickmaster5k
    @Clickmaster5k 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The GPS mounts for this family of bike its not really the mounts fault. That whole fairing thing just isn't rigid enough to not have wobble. The only way I think to solve it is with a fairing brace that adds a metal frame inside the plastic from the steering stem up to the back of the gages and dash. This area is where they all mount and they all seem to be floppy ish with out a brace. Or just do what you do and mount on the bars. I don't like mine GPS down low so I use the KTM dash mount and it flops around too but is tolerable.
    I didn't know about the chain slider. I'm checking my 1190 today now to see if its getting eaten up.
    I don't see to many videos on the wr anymore these days. Do you just feel like the 1090 is good enough and more comfortable so why bother loading up and trailer a wr some place?

    • @azdesertdog
      @azdesertdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree on the GPS mount. I may mess around with it this summer when I have it apart.
      My chain slider was way past the wear point but still had a lot of material left.
      I have been having some issues with my arms going numb and my hands not working. So I haven't been on the WR in a while. I filmed a video on the WR about a month ago but it didn't come out right.
      Thanks for stopping by and chatting.

      @@azdesertdog This make me curious of what chain lube you use? Maybe the sand and grit sticks to it?

    • @bowenbikers6885
      @bowenbikers6885 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Clickmaster5k I’ve been doing the same chain maintenance forever, maybe a habit but it works for me. I clean off the grit and old lube by pouring diesel over the chain while rotating the wheel on the centre stand wipe off and then lube with gear oil. Dirt will stick to this, no question, but done regularly the chain will last forever.

    • @Clickmaster5k
      @Clickmaster5k 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bowenbikers6885 Are you talking about doing this on a 1x90? Iv not had any chain maintenance issues with any bikes in the past and have done a variety of different methods. I also live some place wet so my chains see a lot of water. He was talking about his chain sliders not lasting and that's what I was curious about, not really the chain.

    • @bowenbikers6885
      @bowenbikers6885 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Clickmaster5k I don’t know if the way I clean and lube chains makes any difference whatsoever to the longevity of a chain slider. I imagine a chain slider is victim to the amount and type of grit brought by the chain and the best we can do is clean regularly but ultimately it’s where we ride that will dictate how long it lasts.
