I have a 1050. I'd definitely recommend the 1090 over it. The problem with the 1050 is that the power just stops. It doesn't drop off as you approach the redline it just stops. It also uses the same 12,000 rpm rev counter as the 1090 but only revs to about 8k. Its quick enough and there's enough power but you're just constantly short shifting and running out of revs.
I would have preferred a 1090, but 2 years ago here in CA it only came as the R and I wanted an S. Add the cost of a center stand, metal rack and cruise control and you are almost at 1290 prices. So I bought a 1290 SAS and have to say I love it. $1650 OTD makes GS prices look ridiculous.
Having sat on one (I’m 5ft 9, 32 inch inseam) I’d be fine on this. I had a DR650, 880mm seat height and rode it to Central Australia. My next bike will be a 690 Enduro R (920mm seat height) and the 1090/1050 will be the 2nd bike - I think your words will put some people off this, when talking about the appropriate height for the bike. A competent 5ft 7 inch rider would be just fine on this.
I'm 5'8" and I love my 1090. Used to own an 1190R that was tall for me. I would take it up to the high country and Otways but sometimes it was a stretch in the sketchy stuff.
I'm 176 cm and didn't had an issue with the seat hight. the windshield is a disaster above 130 kph so I mounted extension on top of the original. The most significant thing IMHO about the 1090 S is surprising agility in sharp or fast turns and lots of stability and power. It can be tilted quite low with good tires. The TC also works great. My only problem with it was the 19" for off-road. lovely views mate.
You definitely don’t have to be 180 cm for this bike. If you have relatively short legs and a long torso, sure maybe. I’m 178 cm and I have no problems handling my 1190 (which has a 10mm taller seat height). I would say that my leg/torso ratio is pretty normal.
I still own a 2018 1090 Adventure R and already change fuel pump failure at 28,000KM…did valve clearance check at 33,000KM so far they said it’s “good” $600 later. sprockets and chains next spring 2023.
I think the Africa twin may be superior but their frame seems to break too easily. I’m 1.90 and love my 1090r. Has enough tech. Feels like a good middle ground of everything
Tenho um exemplar deste modelo do ano 2015 e acho-a fenomenal. Potência, versatilidade e rapidez. Só um pouco alta para quem só tem um metro é sessenta. Botas mais altas dão solução👈👌
Many choices for bikes, but after some really dreadful quality flaws w a KTM Duke, purchased new, and so many other folks reporting low reliability Dukes as well, I can not trust KTM
It’s also not difficult to fit high output halogen bulbs or a full LED headlight conversion. For a bit of effort you can have a fantastic bike for much less than the fully laden 1290 or any competitors.
@@nigelwinstanley7346 I have my high output bulbs in my 1190 (same headlight) and I think that it’s pretty good actually. I would put it on par with my previous 2021 Z900 and 2022 MT-09. Both of which had full LED lights.
Wow, possibly the best motorcycle review I've seen so far on youtube. Well done
This is so far the most informative video about adventure motorcycle i had ever watched .

Я думал, что это Бездок будет озвучивать)))) Но все равно круто!
The best review ever! Thank you.
Le mejor y más extensa prueba de la 1090 mil gracias🎉

Amazing review! What's next?
Yeah, still love mine. Do say that not filling it up before going off road does make a difference.
Great bike, does everything off road I love mine so much
What did you say at 4:14 ?? 🤔🤔😅

Australians?? 4:13
Hahaha, just noticed the same 😁
Wtf was the dude at 13:00 doing. I had to watch that at least a half dozen times😂
Probably forgot that he didn’t have a clutch and wanted to rev the bike because he was bored while stuck in traffic.
Worst points on this bike are how ugly it is in the front, the poor front lights, non-adjustable front suspension and the lack of cruise control.
It does have adjustable front suspension on the r at least.
I fitted a Kaoko Throttle Stabilizer for my KTM 1090, works just fine and is unobtrusive & intuitive in use.
It’s also not difficult to fit high output halogen bulbs or a full LED headlight conversion. For a bit of effort you can have a fantastic bike for much less than the fully laden 1290 or any competitors.
McCruise offer a cruise control kit. A ysed 1090 is £5,000. A 2021 1290SAS are around £11,500.
1290 is also unreliable.
